  • This study was conducted to find out how many secondary school science teachers are aware and ready to implement new science curriculum as well as its revision process. For the purpose of this study, teachers had been asked to fill in a questionnaire. The results showed that teachers' overall understanding and readiness was low and that the implementation of new curriculum was a burden to a large number of teachers. Some teachers even expressed a negative opinion. Furthermore, it turned out that teachers didn't have an important role in revising the curriculum as a only small number of teachers participated. So, the second questionnaire and interviews were provided in order to ask for various opinions as to how new science curriculum should be communicated to schools and when school teachers should participate in the revision of curriculum, along with their role and participation methods.

  • This study compared the perceptions of novice teachers and expert teachers on software education in the 2015 revised curriculum. Awareness comparisons were assessed by questionnaire for priorities for field support, activities for professional development, organizational hours, achievement criteria statements, and appropriateness for textbooks introduced only in 6th grade. In all questions, there was a difference in recognition between the two groups. In particular, novice teachers were '' appropriate '' in terms of organizational hours, achievement criteria, and textbooks introduced only in 6th grade. Expert teachers, on the other hand, were inadequate. In addition, as a result of analyzing the key keywords of free-response opinions about the introduction of educational robots in the curriculum and textbooks, positive keywords were obtained for both groups. However, novice teachers showed passive and passive keywords such as 'support', 'difficulty', and 'problems', and expert teachers showed differences in their educational utilization after introducing 'utilization' and 'education'.

  • The purposes of this study are to grasp industry vocational subject student-teachers' instruction area, compare cognitive level of cooperating teacher and student-teachers for the importance of instruction area and secure base data required to develop educational practical area of professional teachers in specialized high school. To achieve this, instruction area of instruction teacher in charge of industry vocational subject pre-teacher education was developed by document consideration and expert verification and differences of importance cognition for the area was compared between educational practice insturction teacher and student-teacher. The results are as the following. First, for the instruction areas that educational practice instruction teachers should teach student-teacher, there are 7 categories, 17 mid-fields and 85 subsections. Especially expert group suggested an opinion that areas of teacher's values and personality formation should be added to pre-teachers. And, they judged that category of school business showed low validity for educational practice instruction teacher's instruction area. Second, educational practice instruction teacher importantly cognized 'class activity', 'student instruction and class management' and 'development of desirable view of education attitude'. On the other hand, they cognized 'development and management of curriculum', 'support on educational activity', 'industrial-educational cooperation and tie with local community' and 'specialty improvement' less importantly. Student-teachers cognized 'class activity', 'student instruction and class management', 'specialty improvement', 'development of desirable view of education attitude' importantly. They cognized 'development and management of curriculum', 'support on educational activity' and 'industrial-educational cooperation and tie with local community' relatively less importantly. Third, both educational practice instruction teachers and student-teachers importantly cognized 'class activity', 'student instruction and class management' and 'development of desirable view of education attitude'. However, student-teachers importantly cognized, but educational practice instruction teachers didn't importantly cognized 'specialty improvement'. Both two group cognized 'development and management of curriculum', 'support on educational activity' and 'industrial-educational cooperation and tie with local community' less importantly.

  • In this study, we investigated how science teachers perceive the changes in school systems, including infrastructure and curriculum, in the context of preparing for future education. And the changes in their perception of the educational environment, the challenges, and changes of science teachers' classroom practices were also explored. In-depth interviews and analysis were conducted with two science teachers in a middle school that is trying to innovative on changes compared with general schools. The results of the study are as follows: First, teachers perceived that their schools had factors that could change the science class in terms of school size and infrastructure, peer teacher culture, and students' abilities. Second, the enthusiasm of teachers who are trying various ways of teaching and the students' ability to adapt in a smart learning environment formed a synergistic circle that lowered entry barriers to trying changes. Third, science classes changed to activity-centered classes, and teachers realized that these changes promoted students' self-directed learning. Fourth, teachers perceived themselves as playing an independent role in curriculum management, and this perception promoted more varied attempts in improving their classes. Through the changes of the learning environment and systems of the school and the formation of a culture that shares their challenges and innovations with the voluntary learning community, teachers constantly try to change their classes and schools. The changes of school need to be understood in the context of the interaction of teachers, students, and infrastructure.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an effective mentoring program model. In order to develop an effective mentoring program, we identified four elements of mentoring program based on the analysis of secondary science teachers perceptions of in-service science teacher training program and mentoring. For the study, a questionnaire was developed by the authors and it was administrated to 114 secondary science teachers participated in science teacher training program. The interviews were conducted with 14 secondary science teachers. The results of this study are as follows: Most of the secondary science teachers recognized that in-service science teacher training program, which they had taken, positively affected their teaching. However, there are some aspects needed for improvements in the current teacher training program. They wanted to take the opportunities to interact with their colleagues and researchers, sharing their experiences on teaching within the teachers' community, and reflecting on their own teaching. Based on these analysis we suggest four elements for effective mentoring program. These are 'Communication,' 'Reflection for Mentor,' 'Reflection for Mentee,' and 'Evaluation.' In addition, the mentoring program is proposed to consist of four activities such as 'Feedback on teaching', 'Seminar and Workshop', 'Conference', and 'Self-evaluation'.

  • As a part of the second-year monitoring study on the implementation of the 2015 revised science curriculum in middle schools, this study focuses more on examining middle school science teachers' perceptions on the process-based assessment (PBA). A total of 105 middle school science teachers (44 teachers from science leading schools, 61 teachers from ordinary schools) responded to the survey questionnaire, and 16 teachers participated in interviews. The results include teachers' perceptions on the changes in their teaching and assessment methods, some challenges of implementing PBA, and educational implications of PBA. Survey results indicate that the teachers perceived themselves using more PBA methods after the 2015 revised science curriculum was launched. The teachers in science-leading schools present statistically higher average scores to the items on the PBA utilization than the ones in ordinary schools. However, the teachers felt confused in conceptually differentiating PBA from prior performance-based assessment. They also experienced some conflicts when implementing PBA under the achievement-oriented school atmospheres. In addition, they often faced difficulties in securing objectivity and reliability of PBA and felt the burden of evaluating individual students. This study suggests the necessity of giving more authority and trust to science teachers regarding PBA, constructing more supportive environment to cultivate teacher competency as evaluation experts, and the need to reduce task burden. However, some teachers who actively implemented PBA express some level of satisfaction as observing students' positive reaction to PBA.

  • The purpose of this study is to survey mathematics teacher's cognition of proof along with their proof forms of expression and proof ability, and to explore the relationship between their proof scheme and teaching practice. This study shows that mathematics teachers tend to regard proof as a deduction from assumption to conclusion and that they prefer formal proof with mathematical symbols. Mathematics teachers also recognize that prof is an important area in school mathematics but they reveal poor understanding of teaching methods of proof. Teachers tend to depend on the proof style employed in mathematics textbooks. This study demonstrates that a proof scheme is a major factor of determining the teaching method of proof.
