  • This study investigated mentor teachers' mentoring types and how the types of mentoring changed throughout the collaborative mentoring program for beginning science teachers who had difficulties in teaching practice. One-on-one mentoring meetings were audio-taped and transcribed for analysis. The result of the study showed that mentors took various roles such as Observer, Critical friend, Provider of feedback, Instructor, Role model, Evaluator, Counselor, and Equal partner. However, if mentoring did not bring about a change in the perception of a science instruction of a mentee teacher, there was no positive change in the teaching of the mentee teacher. Therefore, mentor teacher must have enough time to concretely discuss about mentee teachers' perception of a science instruction, mentoring method, etc. with mentee teacher before mentoring.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a measurement tool for self-image of the teacher librarian by semantic differential meaning scale and to analyse the correlation between their self-image and individual characteristics. This study suggests that the teacher librarians have regarded themselves as friendly, planned, sensitive and cooperative persons as well as persons with discernment. On the other hand, there are some negative self-images such as partial, poor and uninfluential persons plus disregarder and a reserved persons. The educational career of teacher librarians' background has influence on evaluation area of the self-image. This result shows that senior teacher librarians' role performance as a adviser or a leader is very important. So mediator role of KLA and KSLA has to be reinforced to beat the exchange and collaboration between the senior and the junior teacher librarians. It is necessary to appoint the teacher librarians obligatorily in oder to feel their professional security and sense of achievement, also to appreciate expertise of them through role clarification among the human resources of the school library.

  • This study was conducted to determine if the relationships between role identification confusion and burnout and between role identification confusion and job satisfaction are mediated by role conflict and whether job crafting moderates the mediating the relationships between role conflict and burnout and between role conflict and job satisfaction. A total of 150 professional school counselors completed a survey about role identification confusion, role conflict, burnout, job satisfaction, and job crafting. The results of a correlation analysis showed that the relationship between role identification confusion and burnout was statistically significantly positive, the relationship between role identification confusion and job satisfaction was statistically significantly negative, and that role conflict mediated the relationships between role identification confusion and burnout and between role identification confusion and job satisfaction. However, the moderated mediation effect of job crafting in these relationships was not statistically significant. This paper discusses this study's limitations and suggestions for further research.

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of prospective teachers' Horizon Content Knowledge(HCK) related to understandings of an inverse function symbol. This study aimed to deduce implications of developing HCK in terms of the means which would enhance mathematics teachers' professional development. In order to achieve the aim, this study identified features of HCK by examining the previous literature on HCK, which has conformed Ball & Bass(2009) and exploring the research in AMT, including Zazkis & Leikin(2010) which has emphasized cultivating AMT through university mathematics education. In addition, a questionnaire was developed regarding the features of HCK and taken by 57 prospective teachers. By analyzing the data obtained from the written responses the participants presented, this study delineated the specific characteristics of the teachers' HCK with regard to an inverse function symbol. Additionally, several issues in the teacher education for improving HCK were discussed, and the results of this research could inspire designing and implementing a teacher education program relevant to HCK.

  • This study was conducted to find out how many secondary school science teachers are aware and ready to implement new science curriculum as well as its revision process. For the purpose of this study, teachers had been asked to fill in a questionnaire. The results showed that teachers' overall understanding and readiness was low and that the implementation of new curriculum was a burden to a large number of teachers. Some teachers even expressed a negative opinion. Furthermore, it turned out that teachers didn't have an important role in revising the curriculum as a only small number of teachers participated. So, the second questionnaire and interviews were provided in order to ask for various opinions as to how new science curriculum should be communicated to schools and when school teachers should participate in the revision of curriculum, along with their role and participation methods.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine what kinds of educational activities were carried out during the practice teaching based on CoRe and to identify the role of CoRe and its influence on the development of expertise of student teachers. This study was performed as qualitative case study. The subjects of this study were one practice supervisor teacher and two student teachers. Data were collected through recording CoRe discussion process, student teachers' instructional scene, and semi-constructed interview, and analyzed by an inductive method. Student teachers noticed their own misconceptions, and clarified the concepts based on CoRe during the discussion with supervisor teacher. They also supplemented their lack of knowledge and made up new strategies through the process of sharing their ideas. During the discussion, the supervisor teacher conveyed his teaching experience based on his own orientations toward science teaching. In this course, CoRe plays roles as follows. Firstly, CoRe played a role as guiding supervisor teacher's coaching process. Secondly, CoRe helped for the supervisor teacher to recognize their own PCK. Thirdly, CoRe served as a tool of helping their communication. In turn CoRe proved to be a useful frame for teaching student teachers during practice teaching. Student teachers were provided with a useful framework for preparing lessons by developing CoRe for the topic they teach. Developing CoRe with supervisor teacher at the planning stage of lessons enhenced student-teachers' subject matter knowledge and their PCK including knowledge of science curricula and knowledge of student's understanding of science. Also student teachers understood the components of PCK and experienced the positive understanding toward students, teaching activities, and themselves as a science teacher.
