  • In the present study, a numerical simulations are investigated in a stirred solid/liquid system by using Eulerian multi-phase model. The transient flow field of liquid phase and distribution of solid particles are predicted in stirred tanks consisting of 4-pitched paddles impeller and baffles. The effects of number and width of baffles on the mixing time and the quality of solid suspension in a stirred tank are presented numerically. The result shows that the mixing time decreases as the width and number of baffles increase.

  • The Industrial Mixers are used in various industrial fields where they are necessary to intimately mix two reactants in a short Period of time. However. despite their widespread use, complex unsteady flow characteristics of industrial mixers are not systematically investigated. The present study aims for clarify unsteady flow characteristics Induced by various impellers in a tank. Impellers are pitched blade turbine(PBT) types, Screw type and Rushton turbine type. In this study choice of the industrial mixer's impeller type using PIV and CFD method. The rotating speed of impellers are fixed by 100RPM.

  • In the present study a mesh generation program is developed for the flow analysis of industrial mixers. With this program one can select various design parameters such as impeller types, vessel type, number of baffles, number of blades, blade pitched angle, stages of impeller, rotational speed etc. Post processing capabilities are also imbedded in the program. Along with brief explanation of the program, examples of flow simulation for various type of mixers by using the program are also presented to show effectiveness of the program. It is expected that this program can be used to understand the effect of design parameters on the performance of particular type of the mixer, and hence to achieve the optimal design.

  • In the present study, a transient glass particle distribution in a stirred solid/liquid mixer was investigated using computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The flow patterns and solid concentaration distriburion in a solid/liquid mixer formed by pitched paddle and baffles were predicted. The numerical results were compared to experimental data from the available literature. Eulerian multi-phase model was used to investigate the influence of the density of solid particle on the same impeller speed. A good agreement was obtained between the experimental data and simulation results.

  • In this study, the generation of the propeller hub vortex was analyzed and a PBCF(Propeller Boss Cap Fins) was designed to control the propeller hub vortex. A RANS(Reynolds-averaged Navier-stokes) approach is employed to predict the hub vortex characteristics. The hub profile is an important factor but only a small increase (1.9%) of efficiency was obtained with the hub profile modification. The propeller hub vortex was eliminated by installing the PBCF and as a result, the propeller efficiency was increased by 5.6%.

  • A quick injection agitator is used to mix working fluids. In this study, numerical analyses are carried out to investigate the performance of a quick injection agitator with different gaps between the impeller and vacuum enhancer. A commercial CFD code is used to compute the 3-D viscous flow field within the impeller of agitatior. Numerical results are graphically depicted with different gaps. Special attention is paid to the following topics: pressure distribution, velocity gradient, volume fraction.

  • The flow pattern and the solid-liquid mass transfer coefficient in figure-eight shaking vessels were observed by experimental method. The flow patterns, mixing time, power consumption and mass transfer coefficient in the figureeight shaking vessels changed irregularly with increase in the shaking frequency. Any frequency, even in the Fr = 0.095 or more became clear experimentally. The region of the optimum operating condition of the figure-eight shaking was larger than that of the reciprocal shaking. The solid-liquid mass transfer coefficient was correlated with the same correlation as that of the rotary shaking vessel of existing. The gas-liquid mass transfer coefficient of the figure-eight shaking vessel was also correlated with the same type of correlation as that of the rotary shaking vessel of existing.

  • The reducer of the mixer is one of the main parts of the processor used for water and wastewater treatment. In this study, an advanced reducer with a drywell structure was developed in order to prevent oil leakage during operation in the field. During the development of the advanced reducer prototype, a mockup, a metal mold, and a cast were made using CAD and a CNC machine. The structural safety of the reducer prototype's lower housing (drywell structure) was checked using the ALGOR commercial FEM analysis code, which yielded a von Mises stress of about 123 N/mm2, which is below the yield stress of 250 N/$mm^2$, and a natural frequency of about 650-700 Hz. In addition, the torque transmission efficiency for the advanced prototype was 95.87%, which is about 8% more than that found in a previous study, 88.45%, and the sound level was below 75 dB. Furthermore, no oil leakage or abnormal sound or vibration occurred. Therefore, an optimally designed advanced reducer prototype has been successfully developed.
