Seismic Safety Assessment of the Turbine-Generator Foundation using Probabilistic Structural Reliability Analysis (확률론적 구조신뢰성해석을 이용한 터빈발전기 기초의 지진 안전성 평가)

  • Most of the civil structure - bridges, offshore structures, plant, etc. - have been designed by the classical approaches which deal with all the design parameters as deterministic variables. However, some more advanced techniques are required to evaluate the inherent randomness and uncertainty of each design variable. In this research, a seismic safety assessment algorithm based on the structural reliability analysis has been formulated and computerized for more reasonable seismic design of turbine-generator foundations. The formulation takes the design parameters of the system and loading properties as random variables. Using the proposed method, various kinds of parametric studies have been performed and probabilistic characteristics of the resulted structural responses have been evaluated. Afterwards, the probabilistic safety of the system has been quantitatively evaluated and finally presented as the reliability indexes and failure probabilities. The proposed procedure is expected to be used as a fundamental tool to improve the existing design techniques of turbine-generator foundations.

A Study on Torsional Stress ratio and Torsional ratio of Curved Girder Bridge by Transfer Matrix Method (전달행렬법에 의한 곡선거더교의 비틀림 응력비와 비틀림 정수비에 관한 연구)

  • In the design of curved girder bridges, the engineer is faced with a complex stress situatiorl. since these types of mutiple-I girder. mono-box girder and twin-box girder are subjected to both bending and torsional force. In general, the torsional forces consist of two part, St. venant's and warping. Thus the procedure for determining the induced stresses in a curved girder is difficult. The transfer matrix method is extensively used for the structural analysis because its merit in the theoretical background and applicability. The technique is attractive for implementation on a numerical solution by means of a computer program coded in Fortran language with a few elements. To demonstrate this fact. it gives good results which compare well with finite difference method. Therefore, in this paper, to clarify the range where the torsional warping stress can be approximated by pure torsional analyzed a critical value of relationships between the torsional stress ratio and torsional ratio.

  • The grid structure is parallel main girders intersected with crossgirder. It distribute the loads to adjoining main girder through the crossgirder when a girder is subjected to a load. grillage girder bridge has high load-carrying capacity, it can save materials and become more economical type of bridge. In this paper, the grillage girder bridge analysis program developed by using the transfer matrix method deals with following problems: the comparision with Leonhardt, Szabo, FEM yang and jung in the analysis of grillage girder bridges, quality of straight and curved bridges with skew angle, forces of straight and curved bridges according to skew angle and bending stiffness/torsional stiffness ratio.

A Basic Study on the Varying Thickness Detection of Steel Plate Using Ultrasonic Velocity Method (초음파 속도법을 활용한 강판의 두께 변화 탐지를 위한 기초연구)

  • This study was initiated to develop an effective inspection method to detect defects such as corrosion in closed-cell steel members in steel-box girder bridges. The ultrasonic velocity method among various non-destructive method was selected as a rapid and effective method to derive the average propagation velocity in the medium by using the ultrasonic wave velocity method for specimens of different thickness. The regression analysis was performed based on the experimental results, and the results was interpolated to evaluate the prediction accuracy. If the material properties are identical, this ultrasonic velocity method can predict the thickness using the averaged transmitted velocity. In addition, a continuous scanning method moving at 200 mm/s was tested for scanning a wide area of a bridge. The results exhibited that the continuous scanning method was able to effectively scan the different thickness of a bridge.

Development of Corrosion Detection Method for Closed U-ribs in Steel Bridges Using Ultrasonic Velocity Method (초음파 속도법을 활용한 강교 부식 손상탐지법 개발)

  • This study was intended to develop an inspection method to detect defects in closed-cell steel members in steel girder bridges. The ultrasonic pulse velocity method was selected as a rapid and effective method to identify thickness changes of steel specimens caused by corrsion. This study developed an algorithm to expedite the process and improve the accuracy in the prediction of steel plate thickness. Also, both static and continuous scanning methods were compared to each other to identify the difference in accuracy, but the results revealed that both methods produce almost the same results. This study also provided the idea to calculate the height of water contained in the closed-cell steel member and results of laboratory experimental results. The water heights which is thicker than the steel plate thickness were detectable and predicted using the idea suggested by this study, but the water heights lower than the steel plate thickness were not possible. However, the results showed whether the steel member contains water or not.

  • Corrugated webs have been used for composite prestressed concrete box girder bridges. Innovative steel plate girders using corrugated webs have been proposed. It has been found that analytical and experimental researches conducted to determine the strength of trapezoidally corrugated webs can fail with respect to three different buckling modes: local, global, and interactive shear buckling. Shear buckling capacity equations based on classical and orthotropic plate buckling theories have been proposed,but these equations show some differences. In this paper, geometric parameters that influence interactive shear buckling behavior with interaction effects are identified via extensive bifurcation buckling analysis using the finite element meth.

  • A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beams and tower structures, with irregular cross sections and with arbitrary boundary conditions was developed and reported by Kim, D. H. in 1974. In this paper, the result of application of this method to the special orthotropic plates on elastic foundation with free boundaries is presented. Such plates represent the concrete highway slab and hybrid composite pavement on bridges. Any method may be used to obtain the deflection influence surfaces needed for this vibration analysis. Finite difference method is used for this purpose, in this paper. The influence of the modulus of the foundation and the aspect ratio of the plate on the natural frequency is thoroughly studied. The effect of neglecting the mass of the plates on the natural frequency, as the ratio of the point mass/masses to the plate mass increases, is also studied, in deep.

  • The proposed RDT(Reversed Double T) girder bridge is suitable to eco corridor, because of its cross section which resembles Korean alphabet vowel "ㅛ". The total height and cost of bridge would be reduced for its inner space containing some of plant soil. In this study, the performance of the RDT girder was assessed by comparing results of static test with those of nonlinear analysis. The cracking load of the RDT girder was evaluated more than two times of design load.

  • The suspension bridge is divided by an earth anchor and a self-anchor type according to the anchorage type. This study is to evaluate the dynamic effect of moving vehicles to suspension bridges. The results were presented with the dynamic magnification factor (DMF) by the effect of vehicle speed and weight according to the anchorage type. The vehicle model has 6 degrees of freedom to idealize nonlinear multi-leaf suspensions and elastic tires of tractor-trailer. The bridge was modelled with the 3-dimensional frame element and 3-dimensional elastic catenary cable element. The condition of deck surface is considered using the actual road spectra.

  • 제어이론분야에서의 발전은 그러한 이론을 다방면으로 응요할 수 있는 분야를 더더욱 폭넓게 제공해 주고 있다. 자동화와 관련된 분야뿐만 아니라, 건축 및 토목분야에서도 고도의 제어어이론을 응용한 예를 쉽게 접할 수 있게 되었으며, 지진동에 의한 구조물의 진동을 억제하려는 방책이 그 ??ㅣ다. 이에 관한 많은 연구에서도 알 수 있듯이, 일반적으로 구조물의 수학적 모델에만 의존하여, 즉 구조물의 설계파라미터는 이미 설계되어져 있다는 가정하에 제어계를 설계하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 설계법에 있어서는 설계자로 하여금 구조물의 설계파라미터를 조정할 수 있는 자유도는 전혀 주어지지 않게 되며 단지 제어계의 파라미터를 조정하는 자유도만 허용된다. 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위해 구조계 및 제어기의 설계파라미터를 동시에 조절할 수 있는 자유도가 허용되는 '구조계/제어계의 동시 최적화' 기법이 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 교량의 주탑 및 해양구조물 등의 진동제어 문제에 이러한 설계기법을 이용하여 주어진 설계사양을 만족하도록 구조계 및 제어계의 파라미터를 최적화 한다. 특히 본 논문에서는 제어계 설계 문제에 있어서의 일반적인 경우를 고려하여 상태의 일부가 관측된다고 가정하고 출력피드백의 경우에 대해 고찰하고 있다. 이때의 설계사양은 선형행렬부등식(LMI)으로 주어지며, 실험을 통하여 본 논문에서 소개하는 설계기법의 유효성을 검증한다.
