  • In this days, the thinner film of dielectric materials is required while its capacitance is required to be still large at the VLSI process. Most of such VLSI have MOS structures. For the research on this requirement, MOS capacitors were fabricated on the silicon wafer in four different thickness groups by RF sputtering method. SiO of the SiO/TiN film is used as the insulating layer and TiN is chosen as the barrier against the diffusion of Al which is the terminal connected by ohmic contact because TiN has the advantageous properties such as good thermal stability and very low diffusion rate in spite of its relatively low specific resistance. In this study their electrical and optical characteristics are investigated to find refractive index, absorption coefficient and Permittivity.

  • 3D printing technology is being used in various fields such as medicine and biotechnology, and materials containing metal powder are being commercialized through recent material development. Therefore, this study intends to analyze the photon spectrum during added filtration using 3D printing material during diagnostic X-ray examination through simulation. Among the Monte Carlo techniques, MCNPX (ver. 2.5.0) was used. First, the appropriateness of the photon spectrum generated in the simulation was evaluated through SRS-78 and SpekCalc, which are X-ray spectrum generation programs in the diagnostic field. Second, photon spectrum the same thickness of Al and Cu filters were obtained for characterization of 3D printing materials containing metal powder. In addition, the total photon fluence and average energy according to changes in tube voltage were compared and analyzed. As a result, it was analyzed that PLA-Al required about 1.2 ~ 1.4 times the thickness of the existing Al filter, and PLA-Cu required about 1.4 ~ 1.7 times the thickness of the Cu filter to show the same degree of filtration. Based on this study in the future, it is judged that it can be utilized as basic data for manufacturing 3D printing additional filters in medical fields.

  • The energy spectra and dose calculations were performed for secondary neutrons from a 24 MV LINAC using MCNPX code (V2, 4, 0). The energy spectra for neutrons and photons emitted from the LINAC head, and absorbed dose to water were calculated in water phantom. The absorbed doses calculated with Monte Carlo were $0.66\~0.35$ mGy/photon Gy at the surface to d=5 cm, and calculated with interaction data was 0.52 mGy/photon Gy at the depth of electron equilibrium in water. We have shown that this work can be applied to dose estimation of neutrons from high energy LINAC through the comparison of our results with other results.

  • Maintenance on the water chamber of steam generator during outage in nuclear power plants (NPPs) has a likelihood of high radiation exposure to whole body of workers even short time period due to the high radiation exposure rates. In particular, it is expected that hands would receive the highest radiation exposure because of its contact with radiation materials. In this study, characteristic analysis of inhomogeneous radiation fields for contact operations was conducted using thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD) readouts from the application tests of two-dosimeter algorithm to Korean NPPs in 2004. It is regarded that inhomogeneous radiation fields for contact operations in NPPs are dominated by high energy photons. In addition, field tests for workers who participated in maintenance on the steam generator during outage at Ulchin NPPs in 2009 and pressure tube replacement at Wolsong NPPs in 2009 were conducted to analyze radiation fields and to estimate the extremity dose. As a result, radiation fields were dominated by high energy photons.

  • X-rays used for diagnosis have a continuous energy distribution. However, photons with low energy not only reduce image contrast, but also contribute to the patient's radiation exposure. Therefore, clinics currently use filters made of aluminum. Such filters are advantageous because they can reduce the exposure of the patient to radiation. However, they may have negative effects on imaging quality, as they lead to increases in the scattered dose. In this study, we investigated the effects of the scattered dose generated by an aluminum filter on medical image quality. We used the relative standard deviation and the scatter degradation factor as evaluation indices, as they can be used to quantitatively express the decrease in the degree of contrast in imaging. We verified that the scattered dose generated by the increase in the thickness of the aluminum filter causes degradation of the quality of medical images.

  • Background: For the accurate dose assessment in radiation therapy, energy spectrum of the photon beam generated from the linac head is essential. The aim of this study is to develop the technique to accurately unfolding the energy spectrum with the transmission analysis method. Materials and Methods: Clinical linear accelerator and Monet Carlo method was employed to evaluate the transmission signals according to the thickness of the observer material, and then the response function of the ion chamber response was determined with the mono energy beam. Finally the energy spectrum was unfolded with HEPROW program. Elekta Synergy Flatform and Geant4 tool kits was used in this study. Results and Discussion: In the comparison between calculated and measured transmission signals using aluminum alloy as an attenuator, root mean squared error was 0.43%. In the comparison between unfolded spectrum using HEPROW program and calculated spectrum using Geant4, the difference of peak and mean energy were 0.066 and 0.03 MeV, respectively. However, for the accurate prediction of the energy spectrum, additional experiment with various type of material and improvement of the unfolding program is required. Conclusion: In this research, it is demonstrated that unfolding spectra technique could be used in megavoltage photon beam with aluminum alloy and HEPROW program.

  • The purpose of this study is to present a method of measuring noise by the percentage of effective line attenuation coefficient of water that can be used for quality control of CT image noise using AAPM CT performance phantom in clinical practice. In the CT images obtained by scanning the AAPM CT performance phantom with a 120 kVp CT X-ray beam, the mean CT number was measured for each pin and water in the CT number linearity insert part. The effective energy was determined as the photon energy with the largest correlation coefficient from the correlation coefficients of the linear regression analysis of the measured mean CT number for each pin and water and the linear attenuation coefficient for each photon energy. And for water and acrylic, the contrast scale was calculated as 0.000188 cm-1 · HU-1 from the measured mean CT number and effective line attenuation coefficient. Using the calculated contrast scale, the effective line attenuation coefficient of water, and the standard deviation measured in the water of the alignment pin part of the AAPM CT performance phantom, The noise measurement value by the percentage of effective line attenuation coefficient of water obtained 0.31 ~ 0.52% in the range of 100 ~ 300 mAs.
