The purpose of this study was to propose for efficient selection with observation and nomination system and efficient operation of Convergence Science class in a Science Institute for Gifted Youth attached in university. For this purpose, we analyzed the result of entrance exam with observation and nomination system, and the correlation between enterance exam score and achievement to perform at the Convergence Science class. As a result, despite observation and nomination system is highly dependent on observers and recommenders, they have very different perspectives each other. In addition it was founded that selection and education process after admission is inconsistent.

The purpose of this study was to examine mathematical performance predictions with gifted behavior ratings by teachers and parents. The participants of this study were 787 elementary 5th and 6th grade gifted students who took the mathematical performance test. This study asked gifted teachers and parents to rate gifted behaviors of these gifted students with using SRBCSS-R (Renzulli et al., 2002, 2009). The results indicated that gifted teachers rated gifted behaviors of the 5th grade gifted students higher than the 6th grade gifted students, except in 'mathematical characteristics.' Gifted teachers rated 'learning' gifted behaviors of male gifted students higher than those of female gifted students. In the meanwhile, parents of the 5th grade gifted students rated gifted behaviors higher than parents of the 6th grade gifted students in 'learning' and 'motivation.' In comparing the gifted behavior ratings by gifted teachers and parents, there were significant differences in 'learning' and 'motivation' ratings. That is, gifted teachers rated significantly higher 'learning' and 'motivation' of gifted students than parents. When this study explored the prediction of gifted behavior ratings by gifted teachers and parents on mathematical performances of gifted students, 'learning' and 'mathematical characteristics' ratings by gifted teachers predicted the mathematical performances of gifted students.

The methods of selection through observations and recommendations were introduced in the process of recruiting new students for the science education institutes for the gifted attached to 25 universities recently. This paper itemized the methods of screening through observations and recommendations. This paper also analyzed the problems with the methods and attempted to create plans for their improvement. The methods of selection through observations and recommendations led to the positive results that students' usual activities and attitudes in the classroom were reflected on the evaluation and that the cost of their private lessons was also reduced. However, the methods showed a few problems that need to be corrected. We point out problems occurring with examining their documents for submission and interviews. It was not easy to grade candidates' gifts, creativity, potential and development within the contents of the documents and the limited time of conducting interviews. On the plans for the developments of the implemented methods of selection through observations and recommendations, we have several suggestions. The chances for teachers' in-service training of learning the methods of selection through observations and recommendations need to be expanded. The interview needs to be enhanced and to have the same weight as the document screening. To secure the continuity of the education for the gifted, the clear guidelines from the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology along with the cooperation of the education institutes for the gifted are essential.

The personal introduction of 2009 academic year Korea Science Academy (KSA) freshman, 143 persons, recommendation that is filled with giftedness cases and observation recording through observing the students by guidance teacher and professor, and Observation recording paper about students that is made by parents, were analyzed in order to investigate behavior characteristics of the Scientifically Gifted by Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis System (CAQDAS). We could divide behavior characteristics of the Scientifically Gifted to 5 main categories by study results. As well as this study may make up for foreign researches and existing researches dependent on quantitative research about behavior characteristics of the Scientifically Gifted, This can be used as a useful data for development of instrument for identifying the scientifically Gifted and teaching-studying program by supporting understand behavior characteristics of the Scientifically Gifted as a specific area of giftedness.
