  • In this paper, nonlinear analysis for reinforced concrete structure for power transmission line is performed by considering the characteristics of the failure, which are depend on loading conditions and concrete material models. On the numerical evaluation for the failure behavior, the finite element analysis is applied. For the concrete material model, microplane model based on concrete damage is introduced. However, to describe the crack bridging effect of long and short fiber of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC), tensile softening model is suggested and applied for SFRC. An numerical results by finite element technique are compared with the experiment results for box culvert specimen. Comparing on the experimental and analytical results, validity and reliability of numerical analysis are investigated.

  • A methods to calculate non-linear moment-curvature relations of high-strength PSC flexural members for numerical analysis has been proposed. The moment-curvature relations were calculated with assumptions of design codes and by the layer method. The results of the proposed procedures for moment-curvature relations and numerical analysis were compared with those of pre-existing tests. The absorption energy rate of the design codes was about 30% larger than that of the layer method. The ultimate load and the external work of the layer method were 90% and 85% of those of tests, respectively The ultimate load of the strength design method was 97% of that of tests, but the external work was over-estimated with 122%. The ultimate load and external work by the proposed equation of the CEB-FIP Model Code were 113% and 173% of those of tests, respectively. It show that the use of ultimate strain of 0.0035 should be over-estimated for high-strength concrete. The procedure of non-linear numerical analysis of this research could be stably simulated the behavior of concrete flexural members until the ultimate state, and calculate results of the load-deflection relation and cracking pattern were very similar with those of tests.

  • In this study, flood quantiles were estimated at ungauged watersheds by adjusting the flood quantiles from the design rainfall - runoff analysis (DRRA) method based on regional frequency analysis. Comparing the flood frequency analysis (FFA) and DRRA, it was found that the flood quantiles estimated by the DRRA method were overestimated by 52%. In addition, a practical method was suggested to make an flood index using natural flows to apply the regional frequency analysis (RFA) to ungauged watersheds. Considering the relationships among DRRA, FFA, and RFA, we derived an adjusting formula that can be applied to estimate flood quantiles at ungauged watersheds. We also employed Leave-One-Out Cross-Validation scheme and skill score to verify the method proposed in this study. As a result, the proposed model increased the accuracy by 23.2% compared to the existing DRRA method.

  • This paper verifies the accuracy and efficiency of the implicit stress integration algorithm for an anisotropic hardening constitutive model developed in a companion paper[Oh & Lee (1996)3. Simulation of undrained triaxial test results shows the accuracy of the method through an error estimation, and analyses of accuracy and convergence were performed for a numerical excavation problem. As a result, the stress was accurately integrated by the algorithm and the nonlinear solution was converged to be asymptotically quadratic. Furthermore nonlinear FE analysis of a real excavation problem was by performed considering the initial soil conditions and the in-situ construction sequences. The displacements of wall induced by excavation were more accurately estimated by the anisotropic hardening model than by the Cam-clay model.

  • In this study, the earthquake response of building structures with foundation uplift was investigated. The Winkler foundation model and two-spring model are widely used to represent the interaction between foundation mat and soil. While the analysis using the Winkler foundation model results in more accurate prediction, it requires a complex procedure and longer computation time. In this study, an equivalent two-spring model(S model) is proposed. The S model can represent the Winkler foundation model more accurately and the analysis using the S model is simpler and more effective. The S model is derived by simplifying the nonlinear moment-rotation relationship of foundation mat. The dynamic responses predicted by the S model gave a good agreement to those of the Winkler foundation model.

  • This paper deals with the response spectra analysis method of the secondary structures including the correlation effect between the nonuniform multiple support excitations. Based on the random vibration theory, the multiple floor response spectra and the cross-correlation coefficient spectra of the floor motions are derived from the design ground response spectra. The example analysis results show that the proposed method yields more accurate results than those by the conventional multiple floor response spectra method without the correlation effects of the support motions. The present method may be easily employed in the seismic design of the secondary structures in engineering practice.

  • This study was intend to develop the optimal design method of suspension bridge by the reliability analysis based on minimization of life cycle cost(LCC). The reliability analysis was performed considering aleatory uncertainties included in the result of numerical analysis. The optimal design was estimated based on life-cycle cost analysis depending on the result of reliability analysis. As the effect of epistemic uncertainty, the safety index (beta), failure probability (pf) and minimum life cycle cost were random variables. The high-level distributions were generated, from which the critical percentile values were obtained for a conservative bridge design through sensitivity assessment.

  • The object of this study is to propose a rational method of resistance strength and flexural deformation for structures using high strength concrete(400-700kgf/cm/sup 2/). The material property(stress-strain relationship) is to be modelize using regression analysis of experimental result. And the applicability of trapezoidal stress model is to be verified. An analytical method is used by the moment-curvature relationship which is based on stress-strain relationships of material for discreted element of section. The evaluation method of moment-curvature of high strength concrete structures is also proposed by using the Monte Carlo Simulation based on a probabilistic concept that could minimize an error due to iterated calculations and random variable of material properties.
