Securities Holdings of Banks in Incomplete Capital Markets (불완전자본시장 하에서 은행의 유가증권 보유 동기에 관한 연구)

  • When banks prefer securities holding to lending, bank-dependent borrowers would be rationed in bank loan markets. This paper examines, both theoretically and empirically, the incentive of banks to hold securities rather than loans. When banks are in trouble due to an external shock and subsequent drain of deposit, they cannot reduce their loans quickly because loans are illiquid and are not easy to sell. Therefore, banks should respond to insured deposit drain by raising uninsured CDs or debentures. However, they cannot raise enough money through uninsured CDs or debentures when there is costly external finance premium. Meanwhile, if banks hold securities which are highly liquid, they can sell those securities and thus endure deposit drain without costly external financing. This explains why banks hold liquid securities of which yields to maturity are lower than those of loans. Banks' preference for securities comes from the existence of costly external finance premium, which is inversely related with bank net worth. After all, if bank net worth is kept high enough or capital market incompleteness is not severe, the preference for securities should be weakened.

  • The relationship between Korean bank and customer are known as rigidity compare to other industry. The conservative organizational culture is often found in Korean banks. Today, Korean banks are facing dramatic change in digital world in that new wave in online intensifies the connectivity with bank customers and potentials. The introduction of social media would force to develop new marketing strategy in terms of the relationship oriented behavior. The case study presents the findings of a social media marketing strategy which was conducted in Industrial Bank of Korea in 2009-2011. More specifically, the study was designed to determine and evaluate the importance of social media marketing by retail bank in strategic instrument. Also it sets out to determine the perceived usefulness of the relationship oriented services offered by banks to their visitors and followers what these banks can do in order to improve bank services to improve competitive. Using the six relationship activity factors, the banks were examined in the study, a set of core activities (trusty worthy, empathy, shared value, emotional bonding, rich communication) are defined and described.

  • 주주와 기업경영자의 대리인관계에서 대주주가 경영자를 감시 감독하는 역할을 항상 하는 것은 아니다. 기업의 주주는 동질적이 아닐 수 있으며, 특히 지배 대주주와 외부주주의 이해관계는 상이할 수 있다. 소유지분이 높아지고 기업에 대한 영향이 증가하는 경우 이를 이용하여 주주들이 자신들의 사익을 추구하고자 할 수 있다. 기업경영 및 의사결정을 자신들의 사적이익에 부합되는 방향으로 유도하기 위하여 주주들은 경영자에게 높은 보수를 제공하는 방법 등으로 경영자와의 담합관계를 추구할 수 있다. 대주주가 경영자와의 담합관계를 추구하는 경우 기업경영의 주목적이 기업주식가격상승 또는 배당금증가에서 멀어지므로 기업의 수익성은 감소할 수 있다. 본 연구는 1982년부터 1992년간 일본 제조업분야의 상장기업을 통해 기관투자자들의 소유지분과 경영자의 보수 그리고 기업성과와의 관계를 살펴보았다. 주거래은행을 중심으로 금융기관투자자는 기업의 주요 채권자인 동시에 소유주로서 일반주주와는 상반된 이해관계를 가지고 있다. 본 연구는 금융기관의 소유지분이 강화됨에 따라 기업경영자의 급여가 성과급이 아닌 고정급의 형태를 통해 증가함을 보여주고 있다. 또한 기업이 차입금에 대하여 지불하는 이자율이 상승할수록 기업경영자의 급여는 증가함을 보여준다. 그리고 금융기관의 소유지분이 높은 기업의 수익성이 낮음을 보여주고 있다. 이런 결과는 1980년대 자본 자유화와 더불어 자본공급자로서의 위치가 약해진 금융기관과 기업과의 관계를 시사하고 있다. 기업수익성보다는 금융기관에게 주요 채권자로서의 위치와 상대적으로 높은 수익성을 보장하도록 경영자의 인센티브급여계약이 설계되었음을 의미한다. 또한 많은 기업들이 주거래은행의 전직 경영자를 이사 또는 최고경영자로 임명하고 있는 사실을 고려할 때, 금융기관 경영자와 기업경영자간의 담합관계를 암시하기도 한다.

The Effects of the Mobile-Banking Characteristics and Internet-Only Bank Benefits on the Switching Value and the Use Intention (인터넷전문은행 특성과 혜택이 지각된 전환가치와 이용의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The launch of internet-only banks has brought many changes. As the existing commercial banks and internet-only banks have started the infinite competition, the maintenance of relationships with customers or the creation of new customers is important. For this, it is meaningful to understand the aspect of customers' perception of value. Thus, this study conducted the empirical analysis on the attitude of the existing phone-banking users after the launch of internet-only banks. First, the reliability and mobility out of the characteristics of the existing mobile service of commercial banks had effects on the perceived switching value while the reactivity had no effects on it. Second, in the results of understanding the effects of diverse benefits from internet-only banks on the perceived value, the economic benefit and convenient benefit had positive(+) effects on the perceived switching value. Lastly, the perceived switching value had positive(+) effects on the use intention.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine how perceived service quality, value congruence influences uncertainty avoidance, customer satisfaction and customer loyalty, and in turn, provides insight for Korean banks when they penetrate into the Chinese marketplace. In so doing, this study conducts a survey on participants who are using banking services in the Changchun, Jinan, Guangzhou of Jilin Province, Shandong Province and Guangdong Province. The findings are as followed. First, Uncertainty avoidance plays an important mediating role in the relationship between perceived service quality and customer satisfaction, between value congruence and customer satisfaction. Uncertainty avoidance has a direct effect on customer satisfaction, but is significantly negative. Second, value congruence has a direct effect on uncertainty avoidance, but is significantly negative. Third, customer satisfaction has a direct effect on attitudinal loyalty and behavioral loyalty.

The Impact of Exchange Rate and Exchange rate Volatility on Stock Returns (환율과 환율변동성이 주식수익률에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigates the impact of exchange rate and exchange rate volatility on the stock prices of eight industries from 2006 to 2015. The first and second exchange rate exposure of these eight industries is estimated with respect to four different exchange rates, namely the US dollar, Japanese yen, European currency unit, and British pound. In exchange rate exposure, stock prices in foods-beverages, paper-wood, electricity-gas, and banks industries are negatively related to exchange rate, whereas stock prices in electrical-electronic equp. and transport-equp. industries are positively related to exchange rate as expected. However stock price in machinery industry is negatively related to exchange rate, which is opposite to the expectation. Negative relationship is found between stock price in chemicals industry and exchange rate. In exchange rate volatility exposure, stock price in paper-wood industry is found to be negatively related to exchange rate volatility. Stock price in banks industry is also negatively related to exchange rate volatility. This result is opposite as expected, because banks are supposed to get more revenue by issuing derivatives related to foreign exchange when exchange rate volatility increases.

  • The purpose of this research is to explore ways to raise the quality of the financial services of Suhyup Bank, to secure its customers' loyalty, and to help it achieve sustainable growth. The results of this research showed that the ways to improve the service quality of Suhyup Bank are as follows: establish a relationship between its customers' satisfaction with the usefulness, creativity, reliability, and safety of its services and its customer management based on its customers' decision-making factors; establish service improvement schemes that consider new customer needs and desires; and improve its service quality and raise its internal quality factors, which are the keys to its expansion to customized services.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine service acceptance process of Internet-Only Bank centered on perceived usefulness, confirmation, service satisfaction, adoption intention. this study examine relation of perceived usefulness, confirmation, service satisfaction based on previous studies. And we examine the effect of Internet-Only Bank satisfaction on adoption intention. Also, we studied the relationship between perceived usefulness, confirmation, service satisfaction according to Internet-Only Bank services providers. The following are main results of this study. First, perceived usefulness, confirmation have significant effects on service satisfaction. Second, service satisfaction of Internet-Only Bank have a positive effect on adoption intention of Internet-Only Bank. Third, The relationship between perceived usefulness, confirmation and service satisfaction is differ depending on Internet-Only Bank services providers. Based on these findings, in this study examined the significant influence of Internet-Only Bank. Through this study, we propose to marketing practitioners the need for a splitted strategy based on Internet-Only Bank services providers.

  • Privacy of financial customers is becoming important due to frequent leakage of personal information. Financial customers, who experience the leakage of personal information, feel threatened by their privacy and this changes customer's awareness about financial institutions or behavioral intentions. By examining the influence relation of personal information security vulnerability of the bank information system with usefulness, trust and attractiveness perceived by bank customers, this study aims to analyze the effect of each variable on bank customers' willingness to stay.

Predicting Cooperative Relationships between Engineering Companies in World Bank's ODA Projects (세계은행 공적개발원조사업의 엔지니어링 기업 간 협력관계 예측모델 개발)

  • Korean construction engineering firms want to pave the way for expansion of overseas markets through the World Bank's Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects as a way to improve their overseas project performance. However, since the World Bank project competes with global companies for limited projects, building partnerships with suitable business partners is essential to gain an upper hand in bidding competition and meet the institutional conditions of the recipient country. In this regard, many network studies have been conducted in the past through Social Network Analysis (SNA), but few have been analyzed based on the process of changes in the network. So, This study collected winning data from the three Southeast Asian countries that ended after the World Bank's ODA project performed smoothly, and established a learning-based link prediction model that reflected the dynamic nature of the network. As a result, the 11 main variables acting on building a cooperative relationship between winning companies were derived and the effect of each variables on the probability value of cooperation between individual links was identified.
