Middle School Science Teachers' Philosophical Perspectives of Science (중학교 과학교사들의 과학철학적 관점에 관한 연구)

  • Middle school science teachers performed activities to identify their philosophical perspectives of science through a series of "card game" planned for this research. The subjects of the research were 156 middle school science teachers participated in the 1997 in-service science teachers' training course of the Gyeong Sang Nam Do province. The teachers performed the activities for this research for three hours during their workshops. We found that the subjects in the research were turned out predominant in the inductivistic views regardless of their major. gender, and career. In addition, in the process of collective consensus making, views of (a) the criteria of demarcation and (b) the patterns of scientific change were shifted to the extreme inductivism, (c) the epistemological status of scientific knowledge to the relativism, and (d) the scientific methods to the falsificationism, respectively.

  • This project surveys and analyzes the utilization of domestic database from user's point of view to find out the problems and factors for improvements of that, and makes efficient use of the result of this project as basic data in producing databases. Also it surveys and analyzes information demand for PC telecommunication users and utilization of PC telecommunication, database, and internet to establish directions of the development for the domestic database industry.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between psychomotorik and brain function in domestic and foreign literature, and to clarify the mechanism of psychomotorik from the viewpoint of brain science, and to provide the teachers, therapists, The purpose of this study is to provide basic data which can enhance the understanding of the mechanism of psychomotorik. From the viewpoint of brain science, the study of domestic and foreign literature related to the mechanism of psychomotorik and the positive learning environment and various physical experiences in early life through the movement of psychomotorik are very important from the brain physiological point of view. The results of this study showed that the more the children move, the more the learning is improved and the healthy emotional control ability is improved and the brain is more likely to be optimized. Therefore, it is considered that this study, which has been studied through the brain science approach, provided very important basic information to understand the relation between movement of psychomotorik and brain function. In particular, understanding the possibility of optimizing the brain by cultivating a healthy emotional control ability and improving learning as children move more and more is considered to be a necessary process for educating our children well in the future. Until now, research on psychomotorik and brain function was lacking. Through this study, I hope that more people will have an opportunity to expand their understanding of the psychomotorik.

A Review of the History of and Recent Trends on Emotion Research in Science Education (과학 교육에서 정서 연구의 역사와 최근 동향에 관한 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the history of and recent trends in science education research on emotion and explore the direction of future development. A comprehensive review of literature was conducted, and the results were organized according to research questions. Science education research on emotion began in the state of confusion because a number of concepts coexisted and overlapped in the concept of affect. More systematic approaches were then used when science-related attitudes were divided into the two categories of scientific attitudes and attitudes toward science. The research continued to study on positive and negative emotions relevant to science learning. However, the complex relationship between cognition and emotion and the limitation of the dichotomy dealing with emotions as external factors influencing student learning were revealed. By contrast, the recent research on epistemic emotions were based on the new perspective that scientific practices are accompanied with emotions and that cognition and emotion are integrated into the practices, influencing each other. Therefore, research should be carried out in ways that can help science educators understand a variety of emotions emerging in learning science through scientific practices and respond appropriately to even negative emotions of students.

  • 유역모형을 통해 우심하천을 제시하는 방법은 많은 노력과 시간이 요구되는 경우가 많다. 본 연구에서는 국가배출부하량 자료를 사용하여 간단하게 오염원별/오염물질별 수질 관리가 요구되는 하천을 선정하는 방법을 제시하고, 우심하천을 선정하였다. 적용 유역은 한강 수계에서 가장 복합한 댐 유역인 충주댐 유역으로 결정하였다. 충주댐 유역의 소유역별 배출부하량을 활용해 하천 관점의 배출부하량을 산정하였다. 하천 관점의 배출부하량 (Stream Total Loads, STL로 명명)은 임의의 하천으로 유입되는 모든 소유역의 배출부하량 합계를 면적 합계로 나누어 산정하는 방법이며, 임의의 하천 지점에서 상류의 모든 소유역이 포함된 단위면적당 배출부하를 의미한다. 따라서 댐 유역 말단의 STL은 유역 전체의 단위면적당 배출부하로 표현되며, 유역 전체의 STL보다 높은 소유역이 연결된 하천을 댐 호소 관점에서 볼 때 관리가 필요한 하천이라 할 수 있다. 댐 유역 말단의 STL은 점오염원-BOD 0.617 kg/km2/day, 점오염원-TP 0.038 kg/km2/day, 비점오염원-BOD 2.909 kg/km2/day, 비점오염원-TP 0.237 kg/km2/day로 산정되었다. 점오염원에 대한 BOD 관리하천은 창리천, 장평천, 지장천하류 등 15개 소유역, TP 관리하천은 주천강시점, 창리천, 주천강상류 등 20개 소유역으로 나타났다. 비점오염에 대한 BOD 관리하천은 주천강시점, 장평천, 제천천하류 등 13개 소유역, TP 관리하천은 주천강시점, 장평천, 주천강상류 등 16개 소유역으로 나타났다. 또한 전체 배출부하에 대한 비점오염원의 배출부하비는 BOD 82.5%, TP 86.2%로 점오염원보다 높았다. 따라서 우선 관리 대상 하천은 TP 비점오염원, BOD 비점오염원, TP 점오염원, BOD 점오염원 순으로 계획될 필요가 있다. 향후 유역 모델링을 수행하고, STL 산정 결과와 비교하여 우심 하천 선정에 대한 적합성을 평가할 예정이다.

University Students' Understanding of the Nature of Science (과학적 소양의 관점에서 본 대학생들의 과학의 본성에 대한 이해)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine university students' understanding of the nature of science, an aspect of scientific literacy, which is the goal of modern science education. To accomplish this, the differences and similarities by gender and major. on college students' understanding of the nature of science were investigated. 'Understanding of the Nature of Science' developed by Lee (2003) was implemented for this study. The instrument has three sub-scales; a scientific world view, scientific inquiry, and scientific enterprise. The instrument is only expected to give, and provides meaningful information on student understanding of the nature of science. A total of 120 college students, majoring in science education, liberal arts, and physical exercise participated in this study. Science education major students were verified to have a better understanding of the nature of science followed by liberal arts students and then physical exercise students. Moreover, men revealed slightly more comprehension that of women. More than 80% of students, majoring in science education, answered 11 out of 23 questions, approximately 50%. In the area of scientific inquiry, both science education and liberal arts students showed more comprehension that those in physical exercise. All participants showed relatively lower comprehension of the definition of scientific contribution than other subjects, but displayed a greater comprehension of the ethics of science. On the other hand, most students have relatively low apprehension in the contribution of science, while higher apprehension in the ethics of science.

  • 웹기반 쇼핑시스템(Web-Based Shopping Systems: WBSS)이 매우 급속한 속도로 글로벌 전자상거래 환경에서 확산되고 있다. 웹기반 쇼핑시스템은 인터넷에 기반하여 제품(product)나 정보(Information) 그리고 서비스(service)에 대한 상거래 행위나 활동이 이루어 질 수 있도록 지원하는 시스템이다. 아마존(amazon.com)과 같은 닷컴기업들은 웹기반 쇼핑시스템을 성공적으로 운영하고 있는 대표적인 예에 해당된다. 아마존(amazon.com)의 예와 같이 기업들이 웹기반 쇼핑시스템을 도입함으로써 이전의 상거래와는 전혀 다른 유형의 사업(business)을 전개할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 디지털 경제의 핵심적 동인(enabler)인 웹기반 쇼핑에 관련된 연구를 수행하는 연구자들 뿐만 아니라, 웹기반 쇼핑시스템의 성공적 구현 및 운영에 관심있는 기업인들에게 효과적인 가이드라인을 제공해 줄 것이다. 또한 전자상거래 (electronic commerce)에 관련된 기존 연구들은 정보통신기술(Information Communication Technology: ICT)의 역할을 과대평가하거나 혹은 과소평가하는 경향이 있다. 예를 들면 사회과학의 어떤 연구에서는 기술(technology)의 무분별한 수용에 대한 회의론이 제기되고 있고, 공학과 컴퓨터 분야의 연구에서는 기술적 측면에만 집중하여 연구가 수행되는 경향이 있다. 위와 같이 어느 한쪽에 편협된 시각에 근거하여 웹기반 쇼핑시스템과 같은 새로운 정보통신기술의 확산현상을 적절하게 설명하기에는 한계가 있는 것 같다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 웹기반 쇼핑시스템의 확산에 관련된 균형된 분석을 수행하기 위하여 경영(management)과 기술 (technology)을 조화롭게 고려한 관점에서 연구를 수행하고자 한다. 즉, 본 논문에서는 기술적 측면(technical aspect)과 경영적 측면(management aspect)을 동시에 고려하여 웹기반 쇼핑시스템의 주요만 특성을 살펴보고, 향후 정보통신 기술(ICT)의 확산에 관한 연구에서 두 가지 관점의 통합적 중요성에 대하여 강조하고자 한다. 그에 덧붙여 웹기반 쇼핑시스템과 다른 정보시스템을 비교하여 전자상거래 환경에서 웹기반 쇼핑시스템의 주요만 특성들이 두가지 연구관점에서 어떻게 개념화 될 수 있는지를 고찰하고자 한다. 이러만 분석에 기반하여 본 연구에서는 기술적 측면과 경영적인 측면을 동시에 고려한 웹기반 쇼핑시스템의 특성을 제시하고자 한다. 결론적으로 본 연구의 목적은 본 논문에서 적용한 기술(technical)과 경영(management)의 조화로운 연구관점이 향후 정보통신 기술이나 시스템, 그리고 전자상거래에 관련된 일련의 연구에 적응되어 보다 균형잡힌 논의와 분석이 이루어 질 수 있는 시발점이 되길 기대한다.

An Analysis for Science Subject Items of Elementary School Teacher Employment Examination Based on PCK (PCK에 근거한 초등교사 임용후보자 선정경쟁시험의 과학과 문항 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze science subject items in the first screening stage of the elementary school teacher employment examination based on pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) and provide suggestions for improving the items. For this purpose, an analysis framework to analyze the items was developed and a total of 14 unit items between academic years of 2013 and 2019 were analyzed according to the analysis framework. The analysis of the results reveal that 'subject matter knowledge' of the five PCK components was most frequently included in the items. 'Instructional strategies and instruction for science education' was also frequently included although less than that of the previous component. However, 'assessment in science education', 'students', and 'curriculum for science education' were a little included. There were also assessment domains and contents which were not involved in the items. In the aspects of integration, the integrations between two components of two types were frequently found. No integrations were also frequently included although less than the previous category. The integrations among three or four components were also slightly found. Integrations among five components were not found. 'Subject matter knowledge' or 'instructional strategies and instruction for science education' with other components were more frequently found. However, the integrations of 'assessment in science education', 'students', and 'curriculum for science education' with the other components were less frequently found. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

Charles Darwin's 'The Voyage of the Beagle (찰스 다윈의 '비글호 항해기'와 지구과학)

  • 'The Voyage of the Beagle' , one of the best record of scientific travels ever made, written by Charles Darwin (1809-82), the greatest naturalist ever born, is reviewed in the viewpoint of the Earth Sciences. Various observations and interpretations on the Earth Sciences are told in the Voyage. First of all, Darwin understood the geological time much more longer than accepted then as well as the geological phenomena and processes such as orogeny, uplifting, subsidence, erosion, and deposition. And he also provided a perfect interpretation on the formation of coral reefs and a good theory on the evolution of organisms. Reasonable paleoenvironmental reconstructions and interpretations based on the fossils were given in the Voyage. His observations on meteorological phenomena were from the dust composed of organisms collected on the 'Beagle' in the Atlantic Ocean, to the movement of air and extreme clear dry condition experienced on the crest of the Andes, and etc. He made several observations on the general oceanography such as the discoloration of the sea, the lights on the sea surface, conchoidal provinces noted on the Galapagos Archipelago, the trees and plants found in the remotely separated islands, and etc. However relatively scarce observation was carried out on astronomy probably due to his relatively much land travelling. Most of his interpretations and suggestions are accepted in this time.

Analyzing Opinions Which University Students from Engineering and Social Science Department have about Science-Technology-Society Literacy (공학 및 사회 계열 대학생들의 STS 소양에 대한 견해 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze university students' views on STS(science-technology-society) literacy. We divided definition and interaction of science, technology and society in the views' category about STS literacy. Research object was three universities' students(engineering department: 119 and social science department: 117) in Seoul and Jeju. Research result was following. First, students from engineering department valued convenience of life in the definition of science and technology. Students from social science department valued explanation of phenomenon and experiment in the definition of science and technology. Second, two groups perceived inter-relationship of science, technology and society. Third, two groups had different opinions about responsibility and ethics of scientific technician and technical use. As a result of this study, students perceived highly about STS literacy. Therefore, the result of this study will provide important implication for establishing and operating subjects about STS literacy in university curriculum.
