Need of Accreditation System for Engineering Technology Programs in Junior College and Case of the Main Foreign Countries (전문대학 공학기술교육 프로그램 인증제 도입의 필요성과 주요 외국의 운영 사례)

  • The accreditation system for engineering technology programs has not been carried out in this country. For need of accreditation for engineering technology programs and development of evaluation criteria, we need analyses of accreditation procedures, rules and evaluation criteria. So we researched accreditation system and evaluation criteria with countries. These are signatories to the Sydney Accord under which approved engineering technology programs. Accreditation procedures and evaluation criteria are characteristic of the each countries which carried out accreditation system. We have to introduce accreditation system and develop evaluation criteria in our manner for advancing our engineering technology education of community college.

  • In spite of rather short history of about 10 years, Engineering Accreditation has been spreaded, drastically. Considerable number of faculties in diverse engineering majors keep pouring their efforts for better engineering education. Nevertheless, due to unfamiliarity to certain terminologies that can be easily found in other areas, major number of engineering faculties suffer from difficulties in fulfilling the requirements for Engineering Accreditation. This paper presents fundamental knowledge underlying Accreditation Standards and requirements of each Standard, in detail. This paper eventually provides engineering programs with concrete ways by which one can fulfill all the requirements for Engineering Accreditation.

  • 대한건축학회와 건설교통부, 한국건축가협회, 대한건축사협회에서 공동주최하는 '건축교육, 건축사제도 개선 및 건축교육인증원 발족을 위한 1차 공동회'가 지난 11월 19일(금)과 20일(토)에 대한건축학회 세미나실에서 열렸다. 이번 공청회는 건축교육, 설계실무 등에 대한 개선방안을 마련하여 건축교육의 국제화 및 국내건축사의 국제경쟁력을 향상시킨다는 주요명제하에 건축 3단체가 공동으로 준비하였다. 이번 공청회의 좌장은 이명호(중앙대 건축학과) 교수가 맡았으며, 주제발표는 '교육제도 개선 및 교육인증'에 대해서는 이문섭, 박한규씨가, '건축사제도 및 건축사보완'에 대해서는 최관영, 박서홍씨가 맡았고, 토론자로는 강병근(건국대 건축공학과 교수), 김우성(아키플랜 대표), 정의용(영남대 건축공학과 교수), 이영근(건설교통부 건축과 과장), 정진원(경기대 건축공학과 교수), 최수태(교육부 대학학사제도과장), 김광현(서울대 건축학과 교수), 김병현(장건축), 김영웅(진원건축), 심재덕(태두건축), 정태화(건설교통부 건축과 사무관), 최동규(서인건축)씨가 참여했다. 이번호에서는 건축교육제도 개선분야, 건축교육인증분야, 건축사제도 및 건축사보완 분야의 발표요약문을 게재한다.

A Study on Accreditation-based Qualification System: Focusing on the Case of K University (인증평가형 자격제도에 관한 연구: K 대학 사례를 중심으로)

  • Several preceding studies have been conducted to integrate the education programs and qualification examination systems in higher education institutions, such as four-year engineering colleges and vocational universities. However, in practice, the implementation of such integration is a rare occurrence. The most ideal method of integrating education and qualifications can be seen as the unified operation of educational programs and qualification assessments. However, various elements required for accreditation of educational institutions and qualification systems must precede this. In this paper, we first compare and analyze the currently implemented competency-based qualification system and the Accreditation for engineering education evaluation operating as a quality management system for educational programs. Subsequently, through a case study of University K, which concurrently operates the Accreditation for engineering education and competency-based qualification systems, we examine the potential linkage between education and qualifications. After reviewing the case that education and qualifications can be linked, and reflecting the analysis results, if a program that has obtained the Accreditation for engineering education operates a curriculum that satisfies the criteria for Course-based Qualification System. We propose Accreditation-based Qualification System that can grant qualifications, students who have completed it will be provided.

  • Changwon National University has been developing and using a computerized supporting system named SAVIORS for ABEEK(Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea) related tasks since the year of 2001. The main purpose of the development of SAVIORS is to totally computerize all tasks related to ABTEK so that faculty staff may perform their job as readily and efficiently as possible. In this paper, detailed functions and utilization records of the SAVIORS are introduced for sharing the advantages of the system with other institutes.

  • We analyzed the relationship based on the complex system between engineering writing in accreditation program and engineering education accreditation system and studied an effective engineering writing education system for engineering education in this paper. By introducing accreditation system, the engineering education system keeps continuously an emergent behavior and builds the new system. In this point of view, this research proposed an situated learning system and introduction of writing portfolio. As a result, we ascertain this proposed way makes up writing skill of students. We think this discussion will be a chance to explore a new writing education system in engineering education.
