The operation of school oral health clinics that provide dental health care to children at the right time seems to contribute to enhancing their dental health status by preventing against dental diseases and changing their relevant knowledge, attitude and behaviors. In the future, more school oral health clinics should gradually be prepared to push ahead with a sustained, extensive dental health project geared toward school-aged children. To make it happen, dental hygienists who are professional medical personnels should be taken advantage of, and in order to beef up the efficiency of preventive measures and oral health education, the best dental health care services should be offered by harnessing dental hygienists and dentists who work at public dental clinics run by local governments.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the status of oral health behavior according to economic inequality in Korea. Raw data for the 3rd year (2015) of the 6th national health and nutrition survey were analyzed. Among surveyed individuals, adults over the age of 19 were designated as research subjects. The results indicated that a smaller 'house income' was associated with a higher supply and demand experience for basic living and a higher DMFT. Additionally, a higher DMFT was associated with a lower 'house income', lower 'education level', and the 'experience of basic living security received'. Oral health behavior inequality was caused by economic inequality. Overall, these results indicate that it is necessary for the oral health service of vulnerable groups to strengthen preventive activities through comprehensive arbitration policies regarding the social decision factors of public health projects.

A large majority of respondents (86.2%) were satisfied with sealant application; many parents (75.8%) checked for maintenance of the sealant; and 75.6% demanded reexamination after sealant application. 3. As factors associated with acceptance of a sealant, high recognition of a sealant, much experience of visiting a dental clinic, and parents' great concern about children's dental health were related to high sealant application. To put the results together, it is desirable to develop the sealant project by the Dong-gu Health Center in Incheon actively as a public oral health project.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of dental hygiene education curriculum such as oral prophylaxis, preventive dentistry, public oral health, oral health statistics, oral health education in the public oral health service performance. Questionnaire survey was posed to 96 dental hygienists working in health centers and health sub-centers. The relativity among frequency of task, usefulness, importance, and reinforcement of the education curriculum in the health centers, and the effect of current dental hygiene education curriculum on public oral health service were studied. The results were follows; 1. Sealant was performed the most frequently in the health centers and health sub-centers, and it was also the most useful content in the education curriculum. And the tooth brushing method was considered the most important in the curriculum. Therefore, oral health education was considered as factor which required the most reinforcement. However, the issues of school water fluoridation and water fluoridation in the public oral health were barely brought up as a matter of subject. 2. In the relationship between the frequency of task and the usefulness of curriculum, it showed that the more frequency of task was more useful. In the relationship between importance and reinforcements of curriculum, it showed that the more importance of the education curriculum requires more reinforcement. And more frequently performed task should be more strengthened. 3. According to the education course hours, current education curriculum course hours were 532.4 hours, which is 42.9 hours more spent than the original curriculum guideline. Lecture hours were 205.4 hours, which is 50.6 hours less, and the practice hours were 327 hours, which is 93.5 hours more than the original curriculum guideline. 4. Because of the insufficient course hours of curriculum compared to the frequency of the task, the oral health education, oral prophylaxis, and preventive dentistry should be reinforced more than now. But the oral health statistics and public oral health curriculum were not only emphasized, but also any reinforced compared to other tasks.

The aim of this study was to investigate experience and recognition of fluoride for caries prevention focusing on majors in one university. Four hundred twenty-four university students were selected by convenience sampling with informed consent and answered the questionnaire by self recording type. The subjects except dental hygiene students knew about purpose of fluoride use (84.6%), over the count fluoride rinse (63.2%), fluoride toothpaste (61.5%), professional fluoride application (56.4%) and water fluoridation (43.6%). They experienced over the count fluoride rinse (67.5%), school fluoride rinse (45.3%), professional fluoride application (30.8%), fluoride toothpaste (28.2%) and water fluoridation (12.0%). The main information paths about fluoride were university lectures among dental hygiene students and internet and mass media, followed by nurse-teachers among non dental hygiene students. The ratios of intention to use fluoride were: 67.8% in dental hygiene, 34.9% in health, 51.4% in non-health in case of professional fluoride application for oneself, 93.1% in dental hygiene, 48.0% in health, 50.4% in non-health in case of professional fluoride application for their children, 79.0% in dental hygiene, 51.3% in health, 55.8% in non-health in case of water fluoridation. The subjects to experience and recognize fluoride for caries prevention had more positive intention to use fluoride. The answers of students majoring in health or medical care were not different from non-health, except dental hygiene.
