  • Entrance floor in hospital has became important space for medical service in holistic perspective and image enhancement. However, basically a discussion of the qualitative properties and the role of public space is paucity in change of public spaces paradigm. In accordance with this problem, this study consider the change of paradigm in public space based on earlier studies and create classification criterion of space. According to the criterion, G/D ratio and the qualitative spatial area ratio of 26 general hospitals which were planned over 500 beds are analyzed by case study method. The conclusion of this study is as follows. 1) The space according to the medical function is variable element. So the public space should be planned from function-subordinate space to self-reliance space in the future. 2) There is no correlation between the high G/D ratio and the high ratio of qualitative spacial area. In other word It's hard to say that the public space which G/D ratio is high is qualitative space. 3) Since 2000, various types in accordance with the circulation system is applied to public space. And ratio of qualitative spacial area is relatively high in the street type and the concourse type. 4) The qualitative spatial area ratio of stay space is higher than passage's one.

  • As patients prefer large scale hospitals recently, the interior design of general hospitals are conspicuously improving. In the past, most patients visit hospitals to get treatment on diseases; however, recently patients visiting hospitals for the early prevention of disease is rapidly increasing. Accordingly, contemporary hospitals should meet the wish of patients who want to get medical service in more clean and comfortable environment. The existing studies on hospital interior design were mostly limited on analyzing the functionality of each space; however, studies on the interior design of common use space, which is open to all hospital users, are required now. Accordingly, this study classified the common use space in contemporary general hospitals into lobby space, corridor space, waiting space and resting space. The interior design characteristics of each space were classified into; connectivity with external environment, level change by void, introduction of natural elements, dynamics of space and variety of color. Then a case analysis was done by selecting 12 common use spaces in overseas general hospitals. According to the analysis result, the interior design characteristics were more conspicuous in the sequence of corridor space, lobby space, resting space and waiting space. The interior design elements such as overall space arrangement and material-finishing were relatively acceptable; however, the aspect of a user's environmental behavior, in other words, the psychological aspect, which can lead a patient to natural healing, was relatively insufficient. It is believed that an in-depth interior design focusing on practical users would enable various spatial behaviors. It is hoped that this study would be a help to the interior design of domestic general hospitals as a guideline.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the design characteristic about the public space of privately-built apartment housing after the enforcement of price deregulation in Daegu. The public space of the multi-family housing is monotonous and closed according to the position of an elevator and a stair hall by the 1990's. However, the housing has been gentrified since 2000 because of demands of residents and purpose for selling in lots. Thus, the recognition of the apartments has changed and this change has led to extend the living territory and magnify the role of the public space where help interact with neighbors. This study is based on the survey of thirty nine apartment complex. Also, by using an analysis derived from a precedent study, design elements in approach and interior space of apartment residents are comprehended. The characteristic of the porch is researched and divided according to a roof of porch, form as the door, material of roof, wall, the ceiling and floor. Interior space is analyzed by several elements; forms of core, forms, materials and lights of ceiling, materials of walls and floors, existence and nonexistence of windows, and extra interior components etc. As a result of the study, After the enforcement of price deregulation, the public space of apartments has had improved quality in materials and design and the community center for residents such as waiting rooms and spots facilities has appeared. However, the traffic line of interior space has been very intricate. Also, sports facilities and waiting areas are limited to some apartments.

  • Increasing the user's need in the building facilities, the architects, engineers, and building managers must consider the user's opinion when they plan and construct the buildings. When planning and managing of the buildings, accepting the user's opinion is desirable and indispensible to solve the Problems about the architectural facilities between suppliers and users. To supply the efficient working environments, use the check listing tools and operate the post occupancy evaluation. The real estate and development company is selected for the evaluation. It is renovated in 2000 to fit in its working environment. The process of the evaluation is proceeded both private and group working spaces and facility and management of the buildings with 10 categories. Following the result of Post occupancy evaluation, the users of the building are mostly satisfied with their working environments after the renovation. • As the standard of living has raised and the local self-governing body has enforced, cultural facilities have been increased in local areas. These cultural facilities should be designed to consider various users. However, most facilities were designed to focus on size or visual expressions. Therefore, this study was intended to evaluate common spaces of two cultural centers in local area from the universal design point of view. Two cultural centers located in large apartment complex were selected. The evaluating tool consisted of 46 elements related to universal design. The common space were pathway to entrance, parking lot, entrance, all over building, corridor, and restroom. Each 100 users of these two cultural centers evaluated them using by 5-point Likert scale. The results were as follows; The users rated them positively, but not highly. This means that some improvement were needed. Generally, the consideration for upgrading the quality of design such as material, pattern and color needed, and for various users including wheelchair users and seniors were needed. Also, when considering the users' behavior pattern and purposes, installing canopy over entrance, and providing seating places at corridor or pathway were needed.
