Analysis of the amplification of Harmonic Current Using EMTDC in Kyongbu High-Speed Railway (EMTDC를 이용한 경부고속철도 고조파 전류 확대율 해석)

  • This paper presents the AC electric railway system modeling using PSCAD/EMTDC program. This system model is composed of the scott-transformer the auto-transformer. the running rails. the protection wires, the feeders. the catenary and contact wires, etc. After obtaining the models of the fundamental elements describing the AC electric railway system and its behavior, we have analyzed and tested real traction power feeding system focused on the amplification of harmonic current to verify the proposed model. The simulation results from the proposed approach and the measurement data from the test are described in the paper.

  • This paper introduces a new online index to quantify the harmonic distortion. The proposed index based on VI product can represent the harmonic distortion of both voltage and current, and it includes the effect of interharmonic distortion. Also, the new index is suitable to online harmonic distortion evaluation since it only requires the r.m.s. (root mean square) value and fundamental frequency value of the signals. Case studies are presented to show the availability of the proposed index using the comparison with the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion).

  • High speed PM machines are being developed as motor/generators for gas-turbine generator sets in smaller power sizes, and as motors for number of applications including gas compressors, machine tools and turbo molecular pumps. Due to the high peripheral speed of the rotor and the relatively high conductivity of the magnets used, rotor eddy current loss can be substantial. This paper deals with the calculation of rotor eddy-current losse in permanent magnet(PM) high speed motor using the analysis of harmonics.

  • Most of the loads in industrial power distribution systems are balanced and connected to three wires power systems. However, in the user power distribution systems, most of the loads are single & three phase and unbalanced, generating a large amount of non-characteristic harmonics. With the advent of power electronics and proliferation of non-linear loads in industrial power applications, power harmonics and their effects on power quality are a topic of concern. Harmonics by the unbalance voltage and non-linear loads, cause the increase of machine loss and heating. In order to allow current harmonic compensation, a filter must be installed. This paper describes the performance of passive filter under the voltage unbalance and non-linear load.

  • The magnified current harmonics usually brings about various problems. That is, the current harmonics makes interference in the adjacent lines of communications and the railway signalling system. Furthermore, in case it flows on the side of power system, not only overheating and vibration at the power capacitors but also wrong operation at the protective devices can occur. Therefore, the exact assessment of the harmonic current flow must be undertaken at design and planning stage for the electric traction systems. From these point of view, this study presents the harmonic analysis and the modelling of traction power feeding system focused on the amplification of harmonic current.

  • In this paper, the voltage control is applied to the adjustable speed operation of BLDC motor with the trapezoidal back emf waveform. Torque chrateristics of BLDC are investigated through Fourier analysis when the pulse width modulation inverter is applied. Also, this paper consisders the theoretical problem of eliminating some harmonic components in inverter output waveforms, which, in turn, allows to remove some ripple components. Numerical technique is applied to solve the transcendental equations of the problem by the computer.

  • In this paper, the harmonic loss of the inverter driven induction motor was analyzed. It was analyzed through the theoretical consideration on the variations of equivalent circuit constants, and harmonic losses, including the effects of resistance increase and inductance decrease of stator, not through the general method that considering just the effects of the harmonic losses of only the rotor. It was verified by comparing the harmonic analysis results with the test results for HHI's inverter driven motor.

  • Because MCCB, ELB, etc. discharge both technical and economical duty, it is important that the study of circuit breaker guarantee high-performance and realize the power distribution system with reliability. Because of complexity electrical equipment, the accident with imbalance and flicker occur often according to technical improvement. However, study of accident with harmonics remains. In this paper, the essential characteristic of circuit breaker is introduced. To analysis operation of circuit breaker, theoretical model and several simulations have been performed.

  • In this paper, The characteristic of Harmonic spectrum is studied for generally used three-phase diode rectifier. and filter design criteria is showen in the sense of THD, DPF, and PF. As the becoming of Automative and informative era, the demand of critical and stable control becomes more and more important. But much EMI emissions are generated for more critical and stable control in power electronic system these EMI emissions can be measured using LISN(Line Impedance Stabilization Network). So we are to investigate the behavior of Conducted EMI emission in Diode Rectifiers using LISN in frequency domain.

  • Inductive high-Tc superconducting fault current limiter using YBCO superconducting ring in the secondary part has many advantages in power networks. It is based on the superconducting to normal transition and this paper describes its operational characteristics and experimental results, especially focused on the harmonic component analysis and recovery time. We fabricated and tested it under various conditions for the analysis of transient fault characteristics. And for the analysis of harmonics we used FFT methods. The superconducting ring was quenched in 240Arms and fault current was effectively limited to the lower current level. In addition, it was fast recovered when the fault condition was removed and after fault the system had odd harmonics.
