  • Functional and esthetic recovery through reconstruction of the oral and maxillofacial system is important for patients who underwent mandibulectomy due to lesions such as oral cancer. The fibula free flap, which is frequently used in the reconstruction of the mandible, is easy to prosthetic restoration with implant placement. However, patients with growing periods have difficulty in treatment with implants when the size of the fibula is small and residual growth remains. This case is an 11-year-old female patient who underwent mandibulectomy due to osteosarcoma and reconstruction of the mandible using a fibular free flap. Functional and esthetic recovery were obtained through prosthetic restoration using implant-supported fixed prostheses. Implantation site, number of implants, and type of prostheses were considered. Implant-supported fixed prostheses were delivered at 13 years old, and after an additional 1 year observation, stable results were obtained. However, observing changes in the maxillofacial system through further examinations is necessary.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the pattern and the magnitude of stress distribution in the supporting tissues surrounding implant fixture with different diameter of implant fixtures(3i implant, Ø4.0, Ø5.0, Ø6.0mm and UCLA abutments(Ø4.1, Ø5.0, Ø6.0mm using photoelastic stress analysis. Photoelastic model was made with PL-2 resin(Measurements Group, Raleigh, USA) and three implants of each diameter were placed in the mandibular posterior edentulous area distal to the canine. Individual crowns were fabricated using UCLA abutments. Photoelastic stress analysis was carried out to measure the fringe order around the implant supporting structure under simulated loading conditions(15 lb, 30 lb). The results were as follows; 1. The more the diameter of implant fixture was increased, the less the stress concentration on cervical area of fixture was observed under loading. 2. Increasing mesiodistal diameter of implant superstructure had no much influence on stress distribution around implant fixture. 3. The use of smaller abutment had no influence on stress distribution around implant fixture. The use of smaller abutment diameter than that of implant fixture had no favorable effect on implant supporting tissue at biomechanical consideration.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate elastic modulus of bridge-axis direction for optimum structure system in the cable-stayed bridge design. In numerical example of this study, a slight change in axis direction elastic modulus causes major modifications of the bridge characteristics when it is $1\times10^4$ tonf/m/bearing or less. Therefore, the elastic modulus was set at this lower limit of $1\times10^4$ tonf/m/bearing where the strength of the entire bridge system is still determined by girder strength and the entire system is insensitive to variations in elastic modulus. Besides, cable-stayed bridge with freely supported girders have slightly longer vibration periods in the horizontal direction for earthquake forces.

  • In this study, a scanning fixture for flexible parts such as large automotive panels is developed. For the minimization of the weight deflection of a hood outer panel, the N-2-1 fixture principle for flexible parts is adopted in the fixture design. The designed fixture for a hood outer panel is fabricated using the Alufix system. The springback of the entire hood outer panel can be measured successfully by the laser scanning with the developed fixture, which verifies the usefulness of the proposed design method for the flexible panels.

  • Purpose: We wanted to improve the setup reproducibility of breast cancer patients when utilizing a commercially available breast board for radiation therapy. The breast board was modified by using a new head rest and 2 types of board fixation devices. Materials and Methods: A conventional head/neck rest was modified to be positioned in various slots of the breast board, and it was fabricated 1 cm thinner to provide more comfort to a patient when the patient's neck was rotated. This rest improves the uncertainty of the daily setup. Also, the sagging problems at the left and right sides became negligible with the two types of board fixation devices: (1) the stair type, and (2) the arm type. The first device consists of an upper/lower holder with 4 stair-types of grooves and 4 rectangular Inserts. In order to cover the whole range of vertical setup of the breast board, 4 rectangular inserts were needed, and each covered 10 steps. The arm-type fixation device was also fabricated and attached to the breast board, It had two aluminum bars that were fixed by utilizing a lock-type of screw. These devises were evaluated with two volunteers in order to prove the effectiveness of the improved setup accuracy. Results; The developed cranio-caudal fixation device demonstrated that it could reduce the cranio-caudal error by nearly $55\%$ compared to the old device. As for left-and-right inclination, the stair-type and arm-type fixation devices can reduce the relative inclination by nearly $80\%$ and $90\%$, respectively, compared to the breast board without the fixation device. Conclusion: It was verified that the developed devices were effective for positioning the patients and for avoiding inclination of the breast board.

  • A substructure of bridges is very important structural element for safety and supporting not only vertical loads as dead load and live load but lateral loads as break load, wind load, seismic load, hydrostatic pressure and dynamic water pressure, lateral earth pressure, impulsive load, temperature change and load effect of temperature change, creep and shrinkage. Most of domestic bridges are reinforced concrete piers and have an effect on economy of bridge. Recently, understanding importance of substructure, we are getting more interested in new substructure system.

  • Shear test procedure for concrete-dowel interaction was proposed along with determination of dowel support reaction factor or shear spring stiffness constant using the spreadsheet example. For this task, three AASHTO-type standard specimens were prepared to simulate behavior of the jointed concrete pavement. A side support system was adopted to minimize twisting of the test specimen which had been observed in a preliminary test. A typical elastic behavior of the dowel-concrete interaction was observed from several test loops of loading, unloading and reloading procedures. However load versus slab displacement represents to be nonlinear. Test results show that the dowel support reaction factor ranges from 550-880 GN/m3, which is 1.4-2.2 times greater than 407GN/m3 proposed by Yoder and Witczak. This is because less torsional distraction was occurred with the help of a side support system adopted in this experiment. The dowel support reaction factor or shear spring stiffness constant obtained from the procedures proposed in this paper may be used as a reference data for the structural analysis of jointed concrete pavement.

  • $TiO_2$ was dispersed in zeolite and glass filter by soaking them in isopropanol solution of titanium tetraisopropoxide and drying in the air, followed by calcination at $500^{\circ}C$. The analysis of chlorothalnoil was carried out by gas chromatograph with an electron capture detector. Chlorothalnoil was degraded photocatalytically over the matrix-supported $TiO_2$ efficiently and could be completely photodegraded after 3hrs. Production were 5.0ppm of $Cl^-$ for $TiO_2$ supported zeolite, 7.5ppm of $Cl^-$ for $TiO_2$ supported glass filter and 2.0ppm of $Cl^-$ for $TiO_2$ powder. But, $CN^-$ was lower than the detection limit irrespective of matrices.
