Seismic isolation in ordinary buildings has been successively adapted to provide flexibility for the reduction of base shear forces and its concept is accepting wide agreement in lengthening the natural, period to lessen the spectral acceleration transmitted into the structure. However, one of difficulties in implementing the innovative concept to nuclear structures is due to more severe requirements in both understanding and predicting the characteristics of isolators and the behavior of cushioned structures, Stochastic analysis has been carried out to investigate the response of base isolated nuclear containers to the random earthquake ground motion.
Many of the bridge systems, including the girders and cross-beams, and concrete decks behave as the special orthotropic plates. Such systems with boundary conditions other than Navier or Levy solution types, or with irregular cross sections, analytical solution is very difficult to obtain. Numerical method for eigenvalue problems are also very much involved in seeking such a solution. A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beam and tower structures with irregular cross-sections was developed and reported by Kim in 1974. Recently, this method was extended to two dimensional problems including composite laminates, and has been applied to composite plates with shear deformation effects. In this paper, application of this method to the specially orthotropic laminated plates with various boundary condition is accomplished and the result of analysis is presented.

This paper deals with the time-dependent analysis of reinforced and prestressed concrete beams. Based on the age-adjusted effective modulus method, the structural behavior in accordance with time is analyzed using the force equilibrium and strain compatibility condition within a typical section. Unlike most of presented approaches adopting some assumptions, such as non-cracking of concrete and consideration of steel effect as a transformed concrete area only, more accurate results can be obtained at all loading conditions since all materials are considered together so as to be maintained their given properties and the cracking effect is included at the same time. Several parameter studies are conducted with the objective to identify the significance of various effects on the time-dependent response of concrete members, i.e., stress re-distribution of each material and occurrance of long-term deflection, etc. Moreover, the obtained results can be used at design and/or construction stage for the purpose of more accurate prediction of structural response with time.
Geotechnical Phenomena such as landslide, groundwater recharge and groundwater fluctuation due to rainfall can be explain to use a dielectric response and infiltration variation by the movement of a wetting front in the subsurface. The infiltration of a wetting front is infiltrating to the connected pores which are distributed in unsaturated soil. In this study we carried out to laboratory experiment of a vertical infiltration column test using ethanol mix-ing tracer which has same the specific gravity of water. All physical values are detected to use a variation of dielectric constant and calculated to use a dielectric mixing model and tracer test model. This dielectric method measured by each dielectric constant of geological soil porous materials should be of for the geotechnical information and useful a field monitoring technique for detecting the variations of the volumetric water content and the wetting front, which are insignificant the key parameter to understanding the landslide by rainfall.
Slip along a frictional fracture can be approached as initiation and propagation of a mode II crack along its own plane. Fracture mechanics theories predict that under pure mode II loading initiation will occur when the energy release rate of the fracture attains a critical value ($G_{IIC}$), which is generally taken as a material property. For the past few years the rock mechanics group at Purdue University has investigated experimentally the dependence of $G_{IIC}$ on normal stress and on the frictional characteristics of a fracture. A number of experiments has been conducted first on acrylic, a material that, using photoelastic methods, allows visualization of the stress field ahead of the fracture tip; and later on gypsum, a rock model material with relatively low unconfined compression strength. The experimental investigation has been expanded to include other frictional materials with higher unconfined compression strength. Direct shear tests have been conducted on specimens made with cement paste. New observations together with previous experiments indicate that $G_{IIC}$ can only be considered a material property when the peak friction angle of the discontinuity is similar to the residual friction angle; otherwise the critical energy release rate increases with normal stress.

The effect of quenching speed of melt-spinning on intrinsic coercivity ($_iH_c$$) of annealed ribbons and the crystallization behavior from amorphous $Nd_{14.73}Fe_{78.67}B_{6.60}$ alloy have been studied. We have found that the intrinsic coecivity for annealed melt-spun ribbon is reduced with increasing of quenching rate. $\alpha$-Fe and $Fe_3B$ were formed as intermediate phases prior to the formation of $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ phase during crystallization. The $Fe_3B$ is disappeared with crystallization of $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ phase. But the $\alpha$-Fe phase is retained in fully crystallized ribbon by annealing. The intrinsic coercivity loss of annealed ribbon with increasing of quenching speed is believed to be due to existence of soft magnetic phase $\alpha$-Fe in annealed ribbons.
In the case of the superstructure which is consist of two I girders and slab, the section can behave as II section, so that the neutral axis with respect to out of plane direction flexure can be regarded as major axis. Therefore in-plane flexural mode might govern the free vibration mode. Meanwhile, horizontally curved girders always experience not only bending moments but also torsional moments although the primary load is usually supposed to be gravitational load. The interaction due to bending and torsional moments make the behavior complicated and torsional mode may govern the free vibration mode. In other words, structure can have different dynamic characteristic due to its initial curvature. In this research, using 3-dimensional sell elements, free-vibration analyses are carried out due to initial curvature. The analysis models are assumed to be composite and non-composite and finally natural frequency and eigen mode are discussed.

The analysis of linear static and free vibration problems of isotropic and laminated composite plates and shells is performed by the improved 9-node shell element with the new strain displacement relationship. In that relationship, the effect of new additional terms between the bending strain and displacement has been investigated in the warping problem. Natural co ordinate based strains, stresses and constitutive equations are used. The assumed natural strain method is used to alleviate both membrane and shear locking behavior from the element. The Lanczos method is employed in the calculation of the eigenvalues of laminated composite structures and the Gauss integration rule is adopted to evaluate the mass matrix. The numerical examples are compared with the analytical solutions to validate the current formulation and the results presented could be useful for the understanding of the behaviour of laminates under free vibration conditions.

This paper presents a method analyzing the motion of cylindrical buoy moored at 2 points and tensions action on each mooring line under the action of periodic waves. It was found that submersible buoy was more effective than floating one in the severe conditions considering its dynamic motions, wave forces, and mooring line tensions. The wave induced its dynamic responses and mooring line tensions peak when the ratio d/${\lambda}$ of the buoy length d to the waves length ${\lambda}$ was 0.66 due to its natural frequency. The results of this study were in agreement with the existing measurement ones, however, further verifications are needed considering resonance of cylindrical buoy and its displacements to wave height by a series of model tests.

Based on the hydroelastic theory and the matched eigenfunction expansion method(MEEM), the dynamic behavior of the porous flexible net sheet and wave forces have been investigated in monochromatic waves. The net sheet is installed vertically with the submergence depth. Top end of a net sheet is fixed and its lower end is attached by a clump weight. It is assumed that the initial tension is sufficiently large so that the effects of dynamictension variation can be neglected. The boundary condition on the porous flexible net sheet is derived based on Darcy's fine-pore model and body boundary condition. The developed analytic model can be extended to the impermeable/permeable vertical plate and the impermeable flexible membrane. The analytical model was used to study the influence of design parameters(wave characteristics, porosity, submergence depth, initial tension) on the response characteristics and wave load of the net sheet.
