This study was intended to evaluate the surface dose and depth dose of according to the distance of the treatment room wall. High energy photon beams from linear accelerators produce large scattered radiation by various components of the treatment head, collimator and walls or objects in the treatment room including the patient. The scattered radiation measured by thermoluminescence dosimeter(TLD). Linear accelerators rotation center of the four walls(X) distance was measured to be 236, 272, 303, and 337 cm. The result of 100 cGy and 200 cGy of 6 MV photon irradiation, surface dose was 0.49, 0.83 mSv at 236 cm of the shortest distance to the wall, In 272 cm 0.41, 0.53 mSv, 303 cm in the 0.28, 0.57 mSv, and 337 cm distance from the wall in the 0.33, 0.76 mSv surface dose respectively. There was remarkable difference in the surface dose among the treatment room wall distance. The results of useful data in relation to stochastic effect for radiation therapy patients.
We have tested a combined CT/SPECT system with a single CZT detector for x-ray and gamma-ray medical imaging. The size of detector is 10$\times$10$\times$5 ㎣, and the anodes are pixellated as a 4$\times$4 array with a pixel dimension of $1.5\times$1.5 $\textrm{mm}^2$. The cathode was coated with a continuous Au-plated. We have characterized the system performance by scanning a radiographic resolution phantom and the Hoffman Brain phantom. Pulse counting electronics with very short shaping time (50 ㎱) are used to satisfy high photon rates in x-ray imaging, and response linearity up to 3$\times$10$^{5}$ counts per second per detector element is achieved. Energy resolution of 10.4% and 5.3% FWHM at Tc-99m 140 keV peak are obtained for the 50 ㎱ and 2 $mutextrm{s}$ shaping times, respectively. The spatial resolutions of CT and SPECT are about 1mm and 9mm, respectively. Photopeak efficiency of detector systems are 41.0% for 50㎱ and 72.5% for 2 $mutextrm{s}$ shaping time.
Triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion (TTA-UC) is a photochemical process wherein two or more low-energy photons are converted to a high-energy photon through a special energy transfer mechanism. Herein, we report a strategy to enhance the efficiency of TTA-UC through the light-scattering effect induced by silica microparticles (SM) embedded in polymeric thin films. By incorporating monodisperse uniform silica microparticles with a uniform size of 950 nm synthesized by $St{\ddot{o}}ber$-based seeded growth method into UC polymeric thin films, the UC intensity in the 430-570 nm range was enhanced by as much as 64% when irradiated by 635 nm laser. Analyzing the lifetime of PdTPBP phosphorescence revealed that the presence of SM in the UC layer does not affect triplet-triplet energy transfer (TTET) between sensitizers and acceptors, supporting the enhancement of TTA-UC originated from the light-scattering effect. On the other hand, the incorporation of SM in UC layer is shown to enhance the triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) efficiency, which results in a 1.5-fold increase of the ${\Phi}_{UC}$, by scattering light source and thus increasing the number of excited photons to be utilized in TTA-UC process.
Purpose: We report the results of an external audit on the absorbed dose of radiotherapy beams independently performed by third parties. For this effort, we developed a method to measure the absorbed dose to water in an easy and convenient setup of solid water phantom. Materials and Methods: In 2008, 12 radiotherapy centers voluntarily participated in the external auditing program and 47 beams of X-ray and electron were independently calibrated by the third party’s American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) task group (TG)-51 protocol. Even though the AAPM TG-51 protocol recommended the use of water, water as a phantom has a few disadvantages, especially in a busy clinic. Instead, we used solid water phantom due to its reproducibility and convenience in terms of setup and transport. Dose conversion factors between solid water and water were determined for photon and electron beams of various energies by using a scaling method and experimental measurements. Results: Most of the beams (74%) were within ${\pm}2%$ of the deviation from the third party's protocol. However, two of 20 X-ray beams and three of 27 electron beams were out of the tolerance (${\pm}3%$), including two beams with a >10% deviation. X-ray beams of higher than 6 MV had no conversion factors, while a 6 MV absorbed dose to a solid water phantom was 0.4% less than the dose to water. The electron dose conversion factors between the solid water phantom and water were determined: The higher the electron energy, the less is the conversion factor. The total uncertainty of the TG-51 protocol measurement using a solid water phantom was determined to be ${\pm}1.5%$. Conclusion: The developed method was successfully applied for the external auditing program, which could be evolved into a credential program of multi-institutional clinical trials. This dosimetry saved time for measuring doses as well as decreased the uncertainty of measurement possibly resulting from the reference setup in water.

Medical linear accelerator is widely used in radiation treatment field, and high energy photons, above 10 MV nominal accelerator voltage, are commonly utilized for the radiation treatment. However, these high energy photons lead the photo-nuclear reaction and the generation of photo-neutrons are accompanied. Thus, these problematic factors are issued in the view of radiation protection. Therefore, linear accelerator and radiation treatment room are simulated from MCNPX program in this study. The measurement points of interest are selected and analyzed, and the resulting effects derived from the properties of photo-neutron are evaluated. Therefore, we realized that the number of generating photo-neutrons was decreased by depending on the distance from the source. No matter what the nominal energy is set, the rates thermal neutrons to fast neutrons are marginal. It is founded that the amount of the thermal neutrons were decreased by depending on the distance from the source.
Due to their excellence for the high-energy therapy range of photon beams, researchers show increasing interest in applying MOSFET dosimeters to low- and medium-energy applications. In this energy range, however, MOSFET dosimeter is complicated by the fact that the interaction probability of photons shows significant dependence on the atomic number, Z, due to photoelectric effect. The objective of this study is to develop a very detailed 3-dimensional Monte Carlo simulation model of a MOSFET dosimeter for radiological characterizations and calibrations. The sensitive volume of the High-Sensitivity MOSFET dosimeter is very thin (1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) and the standard MCNP tallies do not accurately determine absorbed dose to the sensitive volume. Therefore, we need to score the energy deposition directly from electrons. The developed model was then used to study various radiological characteristics of the MOSFET dosimeter. the energy dependence was quantified for the energy range 15 keV to 6 MeV; finding maximum dependence of 6.6 at about 40 keV. A commercial computer code, Sabrina, was used to read the particle track information from an MCNP simulation and count the tracks of simulated electrons. The MOSFET dosimeter estimated the calibration factor by 1.16 when the dosimeter was at 15 cm depth in tissue phantom for 662 keV incident photons. Our results showed that the MOSFET dosimeter estimated by 1.11 for 1.25 MeV photons for the same condition.
A mathematical model is presented for the calculation of the depth absorbed dose in water Phantom irradiated by high energy Photon beam (10MV X-ray), based on transport theory. The parameters of this model are obtained from the experimental values which were simulated by non-linear regression process method. The calculated absorbed dose distribution is extended to 3-D by using trial function from beam profile field sizes, SSD and depth in water phantom irradiated by high energy Photon beam. The calculated values using this model are in good agreement with the measured values.

Absorbed dose dosimetry protocols of high energy photon and electron beams, which are widely used and based on an air kerma calibration factors, have somewhat complex formalism and limitations for improving dosimetric accuracy due to uncertainty of the physical parameters used. Recently the IAEA and the AAPM published the absorbed dose to water-based dosimetry protocol. In this work web-based dose calibration program for IAEA TRS-398 and AAPM TG-51 protocols were developed. This program developed using the Visual C$\#$ language can be used in the internet. User selectable dosimetry protocol on the web allows the absorbed dose to water data of the two protocols at a reference point to be easily compared, and enables to conveniently manage and understand the current status of the dosimetry calibration performed at participating institutions in korea. This program and the resultant database from the web-based calibration can be useful in developing new dosimetry protocols in Korea.
