In this study, we analyzed differences of explanation on gas pressure and atmospheric pressure in elementary and secondary school science textbooks and general chemistry and general earth science textbooks based on three types of explanation criteria: first, explanation of mass; second, explanation of air pressure on unit area; third. explanation of molecular motion. The results were as follows. Elementary science textbook belonged to the first type. All of the secondary school chemistry textbooks belonged to the third type. But most of the general chemistry textbooks belonged to the first and second type. Most of the earth science textbooks for secondary school and most of the general earth science textbooks belonged to the first type. Therefore, the differences of explanation could disturb students' understanding on gas pressure and atmospheric pressure.
The purpose of this study was to explore discursive-epistemic mechanisms in high school earth science lessons. A total of 11 video recordings of earth science lessons were collected from three inservice high school teachers. The video recordings were all transcribed and analyzed by employing the discourse analysis framework used in relevant previous studies. In analysis, we identified discursive-epistemic mechanisms as functional assemblies for fulfilling particular epistemic functions in the earth science lessons. The characteristics of these mechanisms were described according to their epistemic functions. The findings of the study were compared with those of previous studies to highlight the characteristics of discursive-epistemic mechanisms in the earth science classrooms. Analyses of middle school science lessons and of science lessons in alternative forms, as well as studies using extended research methods such as indepth interviews with teachers, were suggested as implications for future research.
The purposes of this study were to analyze the contents of sulfuric acid in Science textbooks and Chemistry II textbooks, and to survey 10 pre-service teachers' perceptions who majored chemistry education related to sulfuric acid. As results, most of the Science textbooks represented that sulfuric acid was divided into two $H^+$ and one $SO_4{^{2-}}$. But this mistake might be corrected because sulfuric acid was divided into one $H^+$and one $HSO_4{^-}$. Most of Chemistry II textbooks represented ionization steps of sulfuric acid, but same mistake was represented in some of Chemistry II textbooks. $HSO_4{^-}$ is a weak acid, but some Chemistry II textbooks represented $HSO_4{^-}$ as a strong acid. As results of the survey related to pre-service teachers' perceptions, some pre-service teachers didn't know the situation of particles in sulfuric acid solution, and they were affected on by the learning of high school classrooms.
The goal of this study is to examine the Integrated Science and Science Laboratory Experiments of the 2015 revised curriculum applied since 2018, and to explore ways to improve these two subjects in preparation for the 2022 revised curriculum. A survey was conducted by randomly sampling high schools across the country, with a total of 192 science teachers participating. In addition, 12 high school science teachers were selected as focus group, and in-depth interviews were conducted to investigate ways to restructure common science courses for the next curriculum. Main research results include that most schools were operated in 6~8 units for Integrated Science, and the teachers in charge of Integrated Science per class averaged 2~3 over the three years. For Science Laboratory Experiments, it has operated for a total of two semesters, one unit per semester, and it was found that several science teachers are in charge of Science Laboratory Experiments to fill the insufficient number of hours regardless of major. In the in-depth interview, science teachers argued that Integrated Science should be reduced and restructured by strengthening key competencies in preparation for the high school credit system. Based on the research results, ways to reorganize Integrated Science focused on big ideas, ways to construct common science courses based on fundamental science concepts that can guide elective courses, the necessity of career guidance through common science courses, and the necessity of strengthening teacher professionalism for teaching interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary subjects were suggested.

In this research, a questionnaire was developed to investigate high school students' viewpoints, originating from science history, on 'motion of on object', the subjects were seventy- five 10th grade students and sixty-five 11th grade students. Results found that the highest percentage among the types of 10th grade students' thoughts was related to the Middle Ages 'Impetus' viewpoints. Percentages of 11th grade students' thoughts were highest for Middle Ages and Newton views. These results provided proof that the development of student thoughts' based on science history' are consistent with school year. Furthermore, student thought regarding 'object motion' under the conditions of no force, vacuum, or air under a weightless stage were related to progressive viewpoints on science history. However, the percentage of thoughts related to earlier viewpoints were considerable. Student thoughts on parabolic motion, circle motion, and conservation amount of motion were found to be highly significant in similarity to the viewpoints of Galilei, Descartes, and Huygens; view cultivated before Newton. Consequently, this study determined that educational efficiency could be raised by providing historically more progressive views to cope with conflictory student thoughts-thoughts related to past views in science history.

A simple electric circuit of an infrared photodiode electrode (IPDE) was utilized to monitor iron using square-wave (SW) anodic stripping voltammetry (SV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The optimum analytical conditions were determined and were compared with those of common working electrodes. The comparison showed that CV is more sensitive and convenient to use than the common voltammetry methods. At the optimized conditions, the working ranges of 0.1- to 0.8- and 0.85- to 6.0 mg/L iron was obtained. Relative standard deviation of 15 measurements of iron (0.4 mg/L) was 0.09%. The analytical detection limit was found to be $80{\pm}0.6ug/L$, which was applied to iron in waste water.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education in schools by asking a variety of questions including "why and how often they implement STEAM education." This study conducted an online survey on 11,526 elementary, middle, and high schools in South Korea, with the response rate being 56.8% (N = 6,473). To highlight key findings, first, our descriptive analyses suggested that if those that did not respond to the survey were assumed not to have implemented STEAM education, approximately 27.1% (N = 3,127) of all schools in South Korea were believed to have implemented STEAM at best. The highest rate of implementation of STEAM education was found in elementary schools (30.8%), followed by middle (27.4%) and high (17.5%) schools. Second, in contrast with the result for the rate of implementation of STEAM education, high schools showed the highest level of satisfaction. Third, the most important reason for implementing STEAM education within a school was found to be teachers' voluntary efforts or intrinsic motives, followed by support from the provincial office of education. Fourth, the most important reason for not implementing STEAM education was found to be the lack of consensus among teachers. Together, findings highlight the importance of the role of teachers in implementing STEAM education. Offered are policy implications for the better implementation of STEAM education.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among elementary school teachers' high school and college backgrounds in science, their attitudes toward teaching science, their science teaching efficacy beliefs, and their instructional strategies. Both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, were utilized in this study. This paper, however, presents only the results of the quantitative data analysis while expecting to report the qualitative data analysis outcomes afterwards. Four instruments were used to ascertain information concerning teachers' backgrounds in science(the number of high school science courses they took and the grades of courses, the number of college science courses and grades, the number of college science methods courses and grades), attitudes toward teaching science, science teaching self-efficacy beliefs(personal science teaching efficacy and science teaching outcome expectancy), and their instructional strategies(indirect, direct, and mixed methods). A sample of 340 practicing elementary school teachers participated in this study. To determine statistically significant results, Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to relate teachers' backgrounds in science, attitudes toward teaching science, science teaching self-efficacy beliefs and their instructional strategies. The correlation coefficients were statistically significant regarding four variables, teachers' backgrounds in science, attitudes toward teaching science, science teaching self-efficacy beliefs, and instructional strategies investigated in this study. These results can be interpreted that programs of teacher preparations and trainings which include science and science methods courses should help prospective and practicing teachers change in their attitudes and beliefs toward science teaching. It is expected that future studies concerning teachers' attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors toward teaching science can help to improve science teacher education in Korea.
