In this study, basic physical properties were measured for ASCO EQ85 cationic surfactant of triethanolamine-ester quaternary ammonium salt and effect of pH on softening performance on fabrics was investigated using zeta potential measurement and adsorption experiment by quartz crystal microbalance. The CMC of the surfactant was near $3{\times}10^{-3}mol/L$ and the surface tension at CMC was about 40 mN/m. The interfacial tension measurement between 1 wt% aqueous solution and n-dodecane measured by spinning drop tensiometer showed that interfacial tension slightly increased with an increase in pH but the equilibration time was not affected by pH. The surfactant adsorption was found to increase with an increase in surfactant concentration and was also affected by pH of surfactant solution. The friction factor for fabrics treated with ASCO EQ85 surfactant was shown to increase with pH and better softening effect was found under acidic conditions. Half-life for foams generated with ASCO EQ85 surfactant solution increased with pH, which indicated an increase in foam stability with pH.
The effect of additives on the mechanical properties of polyurethane foam were investigated. The resin used in this study was prepared by adding catalyst, surfactant and cross-linker to both KONIX FA-703 polyether polyol(80%) and KONIX FA-733 polyether polyol(20%). The polyurethane was foamed by adding equivalent amount of isocyanate(TDI-80, prepolymer M-200, pure MDI) to the resin and was used in property measurements after 72 hours hardening. The physical properties of polyurethane foam were investigated in terms of density, tensile strength, tear strength, elongation, sound absorption coefficient and gel profile measurements. The effects of surfactant on the cell size was investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The sound absorption coefficient was directly related to the cell size. The physical properties were improved with increasing amount of surfactant(L-5309) until 1.0 part per hundred polyol(1.0pphp).
Comparison of interfacial properties and microfailure mechanisms of oxygen-plasma treated poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole(PBO. Zylon) and poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide)(PPTA, Kevlar) fibers/ epoxy composites were investigated using micromechanical technique and nondestructive acoustic emission(AE). Interfacial shear strength(IFSS) and work of adhesion, Wa of PBO or Kevlar fibers/epoxy composites increased by oxygen-plasma treatment. Plasma-treated Kevlar fiber shooed the maximum critical surface tension and polar term, whereas the untreated PBO fiber showed the minimum value. Microfibril fracture pattern of plasma-treated Kevlar fiber appeared obviously. Based on the propagation of microfibril failure toward core region. the number of AE events for plasma-treated PBO and Kevlar fibers increased significantly. The results oi nondestructive AE were consistent well with microfailure modes by optical observation in microdroplet and two-fiber composites tests.
As a preliminary study of optimum composite properties under cryogenic temperature, the comparison of interfacial properties of carbon or glass fibers reinforced epoxy composites was evaluated at ambient and intermediate low temperature, i.e., 25 and $-10^{\circ}C$ by using micromechanical techniques. Under tensile and compressive loading conditions, their mechanical modulus at low temperature was higher than that atambient temperature. Interfacial shear strength (IFSS) at ambient and low temperatures was compared to each other, depending on epoxy matrix toughness and apparent modulus at the interface. The IFSS was much higher at low temperature than that at room temperature because of the increased epoxy matrix modulus. Statistical distributions of tensile strengths of glass and carbon fibers were evaluated for different temperature ranges, which is dependent upon fiber's inherent flaws and rigidity.
In this paper, reactive surfactants were synthesized by using acrylic acid or 3-butenoic acid as nonionic surfactants, polyoxyethylene(23) lauryl ether (Brij 35) and polyoxyethylene(20) stearyl ether (Brij S20). The synthesis of surfactants was confirmed by FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR. The surface tension, emulsifying property, and foam power and stability were also measured. The surface tension value was 35~41 dyne/cm at an critical micelle concentration (cmc) which was measured as $1.0{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}9.7{\times}10^{-5}mol/L$ using a surface tension method. The emulsifying power of synthesized surfactant was measured with benzene, soybean oil and monomer. Also, the initial height of the bubbles and the height after 5 minutes were measured and the values were compared with each other.
In this work the effect of surface treated SiC on thermal stability and mechanical interfacial properties of carbon fiber/epoxy resin composites. The surface properties of the SiC were determined by acid/base values and contact angles. The thermal stabilities of carbon fiber/epoxy resin composites were investigated by TGA. The mechanical interfacial properties of the composites were studied in ILSS, critical stress intensity factor ($\textrm{K}_{IC}$), and critical strain energy release rate($\textrm{G}_{IC}$) measurements. As a result, the acidically treated SiC(A-SiC) had higher acid value than untreated SiC(V-SiC) or basically treated SiC(B-SiC). According to the contact angle measurements, it was observed that chemical treatments led to an increase of surface free energy of the SiC surfaces, mainly due to the increase of the specific(polar) component. The mechanical interfacial properties of the composites including ILSS, $\textrm{K}_{IC}$, and $\textrm{G}_{IC}$ had been improved in the specimens treated by chemical solutions. These results were explained that good wetting played an important role in improving the degree of adhesion at interfaces between SiC and epoxy resin matrix.

In this study, we designed an environment friendly, water-based adhesive using the acrylic emulsion method as a replacement for solvent-based adhesives, which are most commonly used in layered laminates for flexible food packaging. We designed adhesives with different combinations of anionic, non-ionic, and phosphoric ester surfactants, and with different concentrations of chain transfer agent (CTA). We also examined the effect of the degree of cross-linking by synthesizing and comparing 8 test group adhesives with different types of functional monomers. Additionally, we synthesized 2 other test group pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA) using styrene/alpha-methyl styrene/acrylic acid (SAA) semipolymer dispersing agents (with molecular weights of 13,000 g/mol and 8,600 g/mol, respectively) to replace the conventional surfactants. We evaluated whether the 10 test group pressure-sensitive adhesives met the basic physical property criteria required for flexible food packaging by carrying out a physical analysis of their glass transition temperature (Tg), particle size, adhesion, and molecular weight. In our test, 2 test group adhesives manufactured with the combination of anionic and non-ionic surfactants, CTA concentration of 0.2%, and functional monomers of hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) demonstrated molecular weight and flexibility suitable for flexible packaging, with low adhesiveness and small particle size.

Recently, the semiconductor package structures are becoming thinner and more complex. As the thickness decrease, interfacial delamination due to material mismatch can be further maximized, so the reliability of interface is a critical issue in industry field. Especially, the polymers, which are widely used in semiconductor packaging, are significantly affected by the temperature and moisture. Therefore, in this study, the delamination prediction at the interface of package structure was performed through finite element analysis considering the moisture absorption and desorption under the various temperature conditions. The material properties such as diffusivity and saturated moisture content were obtained from moisture absorption test. The hygro-swelling coefficients of each material were analyzed through TMA and TGA after the moisture absorption. The micro-shear test was conducted to evaluate the adhesion strength of each interface at various temperatures considering the moisture effect. The finite element analysis of interfacial delamination was performed that considers both deformation due to temperature and moisture absorption. Consequently, the interfacial delamination was successfully predicted in consideration of the in-situ moisture desorption and temperature behavior during the reflow process.

A unified correlation of the interfacial friction factor for air-water and steam-water flows in inclined rectangular channels has been developed. The correlation was expressed in the form of a power law of the liquid and the gas Reynolds number, and the liquid-to-gas viscosity ratio. In addition, a relation between the equivalent roughness and the intensity of wave height fluctuation of the interface has been investigated. A new dimensionless intensity of fluctuation including a liquid film Reynolds number is proposed. It has been shown that the dimensionless equivalent roughness, which is calculated from the Nikuradse equation, can be uniquely related to this dimensionless intensity of fluctuation for both air-water and steam-water flows.
