  • This study analyses customer data from a US online lending platform to empirically document the discriminatory treatment that low- and middle-income borrowers face in financial markets. Researchers are using financial data from nearly 2.93 million loans between 2007~2020 of the Lending Club on the open-source Kaggle platform. We find that thin-filers borrowers, especially those with lower credit scores, receive loans at higher interest rates. This discriminatory treatment undermines financial inclusion and has the potential to increase social inequality. The significance of this research is that it sheds substantial light on the problem of inequality in financial markets and, based on the findings, suggests concrete measures to ensure equitable access to finance for all customers and enhance sustainable financial inclusion. In doing so, we propose a shift towards enhancing the social responsibility of institutions.

  • Small and medium-sized enterprises play a fundamental role in the foundation of our country's industry and economy, and most technological innovations occur in small and medium-sized enterprises rather than large corporations. Technology development and innovation are the only way for small and medium-sized enterprises to survive in a fiercely competitive environment, so they focus on it, but interest and investment in technology protection tend to be stingy. As a result, industrial technology leakage accidents occur frequently, and it is difficult to meet improvement measures. When a leak occurs, digital evidence is required to prove criminal activity, but problems such as digital evidence being damaged or deleted due to management loopholes often occur. Therefore, through this study, we aim to design a digital evidence-based countermeasure depending on the type of technology leak accident. We will classify the types of technology leak incidents that actually occurred and study ways to secure digital evidence in the security environment of small and medium-sized businesses that operate internal information leak prevention solutions.

  • As the adverse environmental impacts due to plastic waste become more severe, there is an increasing demand for developing a sustainable ecosystem using biodegradable polymers. Biodegradable polymers are those that can be biochemically decomposed through the enzymatic activity of microorganisms. Currently, a variety of biodegradable polymers with varying properties is being investigated. In particular, polymer blends with an aim to control the biodegradation rate and mechanical properties are under active research. The biodegradable polymer industry, which has not yet reached economies of scale, does not have a cost advantage compared to petroleum-derived polymers. To overcome this challenge, there is an urgent need to expand its application fields to various high-value industries (separators, electronic materials, and medical fields). This review summarizes the current state-of-the-art biodegradable polymers, polymer blends, and recent research trends in new niche applications.

  • Immediate implant placement and restoration have the advantage of shortening the treatment period and maintaining aesthetics until final restoration. However, single implant restoration in the maxillary anterior region may be aesthetically difficult, and surgical trauma delivered to soft and hard tissues during implant placement may affect future aesthetic results. In order to obtain predictable results during anterior implant placement and restoration, surgery and restoration plans must consider the height of the interdental bone, characteristics of the gingiva, and morphological characteristics of the patient's teeth. In this case, we attempted to reproduce the emergence profile and stabilized soft tissue through gingiva modification and digital impression of a labially placed maxillary anterior implant in a patient who desired porcelain fused-metal (PFM) restoration due to economic issues.

  • This study aimed to assess the levels of depression, social support, self-efficacy, and psychological well-being in the elderly, and to identify factors influencing psychological well-being. To identify factors that affect the psychological well-being of the elderly, the data that responded that they had problems such as diseases, disabilities, and economic difficulties that negatively affect retirement life were selected and were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 23 program. Research results showed that psychological well-being was correlated with depression, social support, and self-efficacy. Education level, monthly pocket money, depression, social support, and self-efficacy were variables that significantly predicted psychological well-being, and the explanatory power of these variables was 51.8%. This suggests that in order to improve the psychological well-being of the elderly, it is necessary to develop and apply programs that reduce depression and strengthen social support and self-efficacy.

  • Water quality management is an important element of aquaculture, and digitization of water quality information can be said to be the starting point of smart aquaculture. The complex water quality sensor is an IoT device that automatically measures arrow items such as pH, DO, water temperature, and salinity. However, due to the high price of the water quality sensor, it is economically burdensome to apply it to all aquaculture tanks, and it requires specialized knowledge to maintain them, making it difficult for small-scale aquaculture providers to apply them. In this paper, we propose a multi-channel complex water quality sensor to solve this problem. The proposed system is a device that measures the water quality of multiple tanks with a single sensor through valve control with a pump, thereby reducing sensor purchase costs for fish farms. In addition, we aimed to extend the service life of the sensor and improve the convenience of management by providing an automatic cleaning function using fresh water after measurement.

  • The objective of this paper is to review the changes in fertilizer use pattern and to discuss some aspects of the fertilizer development in Korea. Fertilizer consumption in Korea have steadily increased to triple the application rates of N, P and K during the 15 years from 1965 to 1980, and Korea became one of the countries which apply fertilizers at the highest rate. The ratio of N: $P_2O_5$: $K_2O$ in fertilizer consumption changed from 55.4 : 31.4 : 13.1 in 1965 to 54.0 : 23.8 : 22.2 in 1980. It can be said that Korean farmers practise a balanced fertilization at least in view of fertilizer consumption as compared to other developing countries. However, differences in soil properties, crops, and climate varying as region were not reflected on fertilization. In the technological development of fertilizer, the chemical form and composition of the fertilizer as well as the suitability to the specific crops must be taken into consideration for the efficient use of fertilizers. Although organic fertilizers and manure are accepted as minor element suppliers, it is necessary to add minor elements into chemical fertilizers on the industrial process. Industrial waste may be used for the agricultural production as a measure of pollution control providing careful study on the waste.

  • The Korean Society of Law and Medicine has faithfully played the role of professional academic organizations last 20 years in terms of academic activities, accumulated achievements, diversity, professionalism, and influence on academic circles. The Korean Society of Law and Medicine and the Journal of Medical Law serve as a platform for academic information and exchange of opinions on medical law. Medical law began in the midst of increasing conflicts and disputes caused by medical malpractice and the enactment and legal coercion of medical care as pressure on medical workers. It tried to find a way to coexist with each other through the encounter and convergence of medicine and law. Medical criminal law extends from traditional crimes in the realm of life and body protection to bioethics violations caused by the development of biomedical technology, corruption and economic crime in the medical field. Medical law has evolved into a comprehensive legal area dealing with legal issues raised in medical treatment, healthcare, bioethics, and life sciences technology. On the legal side, medical law is not independent legal areas. It is overlapping with traditional law areas such as civil law, administrative law, criminal law, social law, civil and criminal procedure law. However, it is now established as a convergence study in medicine, bioethics, life science, as well as in various fields of law. It has become an area where collaboration is needed with the field of law, medicine, ethics, sociology and economics. Medical criminal law has undergone a dynamic development over the last two decades. The development of medicine and medical technology provides new and innovative methods of diagnosis and treatment. The achievements and risks of revolutionary developments in biotechnology, genetic engineering and medicine coexist. While there is a dazzling achievement that mankind has hoped for: combating disease and improving health, it also creates unwanted side effects and risks to humans. There is a need to reconsider ethical and legal principles. The discovery and development of patient identity and autonomy has changed the medical doctor-patient relationship. Furthermore, it was complicated by the triangle relationship of patients, medical doctors and insurance. Legal matters are also complicated. This is why the necessity of legislation is emerging. Criminal punishment provisions are also required. The Medical Law and Biomedical Law are systematically and coherently deformed as mosaic-based legislation that takes place whenever there are social issues, citizens' needs, and medical organizations' interests, rather than sufficient enactment and revision procedures. It needs a complete overhaul, and this is possible through interdisciplinary collaboration which is the strength of The Korean Society of Law and Medicine.
