  • This study analyzed the determinants of self-employment exits among the middle-aged and senior adults. For the analysis, we used KLoSA(Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing) data from the first(2006) to the sixth(2016) and vocational data, which is a retrospective data surveyed in 2007. Among the reasons for exiting the self-employment, we find that the group that went out of their businesses due to management difficulties were more likely to have economic difficulties after the exit. Therefore, we analyzed the determinants of self-employment exits considering the exit reason due to management difficulties. The analysis model used a competing risk regression model that defined the only exit due to management difficulties as failures. As a result, the significance of gender, age, and education variables, which were well known as determinants of exiting the self-employment, disappeared. On the other hand, we find that the prior experience in the same industry tended to lower the risk of exiting the self-employment. To summarize the results, we suggest that we need some ways to help the middle-aged and senior adults who start their own businesses without any experience in the same industry to prevent them from failures.

  • Social workers experience various work commitment forms in the field practice. This study tries to find the discriminant validity of job, organizational, career, and relationship commitments among these work commitment forms. This study also tries to find the interrelationship among these commitment forms and the relationship of each of four commitment forms with the withdrawal intention, which is represented by turnover intention and career change intention. For this purpose, a survey of 417 social workers working for community welfare centers in Busan and Gyeongnam was conducted and the data was analyzed. The results of this study showed that the work commitment forms have discriminant validity. The analysis of interrelationship between commitment forms using SEM revealed that the more a social worker commits to his or her job, the more he/she commits to his/her job and the relationship with the client. In addition, job and organizational and career commitments affect turnover intention while career and relationship commitments affect career change intention. Therefore, to improve organizational management, it is necessary to understand diverse forms of work commitment as well as organizational commitment. And differentiated management strategies are needed to increase either each commitment form or various commitment forms at the same time.

Based on previous studies, we logically established a path from person-job fit to work meaningfulness, job involvement, and ultimately career satisfaction. This study sought to validate these dual mediating effect. A survey was conducted with 283 employees, and the data were analyzed using SPSS 21 and Process Macro. The main findings of the study are as follows: person-job fit, work meaningfulness, job involvement, and career satisfaction showed positive correlations. The dual mediating effects of work meaningfulness and job involvement on the relationship between person-job fit and career satisfaction were statistically significant. These results imply that in order to prevent employee turnover and ensure the organization's sustained performance, it is necessary to design jobs in a way that allows employees to perceive their work as suitable and aligned with their characteristics, thereby enhancing positive psychological factors such as work meaningfulness, job involvement, and career satisfaction. The conclusions provide implications, limitations, and suggestions for future research.

The cox proportional hazards model was used in the first survey of KLoSA, 684 persons who were over 40 years old in 2006, using data up to the 5th period of 2014. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, the average duration of job for middle and old aged self-employed workers in 2005 was 15.5years. Of the total 684 workers, 214(31.3%) person was found to have lost their job during survey period. Second, gender, age at start up, and education level have significant effects on job separation of them. When women, when they were older at start up, when they were graduate the university or higher, increased their risk of leaving their businesses. Third, in the characteristic of their work, the type of job and job satisfaction were found to affect to job desertion. When people are engaged in accommodation and food business rather than agriculture and forestry fishery, when the satisfaction of the work is lower, the risk was high. Based on these conlusions, the following implications are suggested. First, it is necessary to establish a support strategy for female middle-aged and old self-employed and older workers who start their own business after their 60s. Second, it is necessary to support them to enter into various fields by utilizing their own aptitude and experience rather than establishing them in industries with low entry barriers. Third, it is necessary to develop policies to help improve job satisfaction in the working environment. In particular, it is necessary to ensure that high educated self-employed workers are satisfied with various compensations by self-employed.

Although many older workers retire early, there are very few studies to examine how the retirees end their careers after quitting the long-time jobs. The paper investigates individual work experiences 55 through 61, identifies the career ending patterns, constitutes the micro and macro analytical models to estimate the impacts of labor market and work-related variables. The findings show that many older workers have diverse career ending patterns after long-time career jobs, that is, still working at age-55 job, exiting and reentering, sporadic work, retired permanently from age-55 job, a repeat of labor force entry. Also the estimation results indicate that pension, social security, labor market condition, work structure variables better explain the career ending behaviors than social psychological factors of health, education, attitudes toward retirement and job, ethnicity. Finally, this paper discusses theoretical importances of labor market perspectives and policy implications at the end of thesis.

In the meantime, the government of South Korea has been developing various means to help the North Korean refugees take part in our society and to increase their self-reliance. In this study, improvements were made to systems where North Korean national qualifications are made eligible for use in South Korea, to help them better adapt to our society. The research conducted a Delphi survey of 70 professional qualified workers, training specialists, qualified professionals, researchers and government agents, and 6 interviews were carried out to North Korean refugees and qualified judges.
