  • A finite element method(FEM) is presented and applied to the two-dimensional bottom turbulent boundary layer. The time-dependent incompressible motion of a viscous fluid is formulated by using the well-known Navier-Stokes equations and vorticity equation in terms of the velocity and pressure fields. The general numerical formulation is based on Galerkin method and solved by introducing the mixing length theory of Prandtl for eddy kinematic viscosity of a turbulent flow field. Numerical computations of the transport of sediment on an arbitrary sea-bed due to wave motion in the turbulent boundary layer are carried out. The results obtained by the FEM made clear the difference in characteristic features between the boundary layer due to oscillatory flow and the boundary layer due to wave motion.

  • South Korea makes and manages the ground boundary points record to efficient menage for the installed ground boundary points from cadastral survey with established the Land survey Channel investigation and Cadastre law Section 65 on 17 July 2013. However, this system's negative perception is spreading across the country because of the excessive business process time and inadequate availability. Consequently, this study has analyzed implementation problems of the ground boundary points record. Moreover reasonable development plans have been proposed through the investigation of the advanced foreign cases and interview of the international cadastral experts. Based on this study, it looks forward to improvement more enhanced reliability of the Korean cadastral system.

  • This paper presents an implicit moving least squares(MLS) difference method for improving the solution accuracy of 1-D free boundary problems, which implicitly updates the topology change of moving interface. The conventional MLS difference method explicitly updates the moving interface; it requires no iterative solution procedure but results in the loss of accuracy. However, the newly developed implicit scheme makes the total system nonlinear involving iterative solution procedure, but numerical verification show that it dramatically elevates the solution accuracy with moderate computation increase. Through numerical experiments for melting problems having moving singularity, it is verified that the proposed method can achieve the second order accuracy.

  • This paper explores a border security system based on agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS). The ABMS software platform, map aware non-uniform automata, is used to model various scenarios and evaluate the border security system given a set of infiltrators who have evolutionary behavior governed by genetic algorithm (GA). we formulated an optimization model and approximately solved it using a GA in order to capture near optimal behavior of an infiltrating force. The results presented give two significant insights for our border security system in that optimizing the infiltrator's behavior can make a significant difference and the quantitative results regarding the infiltrator's avoidance of each asset can be viewed as capturing their relative importance.

  • The free-surface boundary conditions are persistent problem in elastic wave equation modeling by finite-difference method, which can be summarized with the degradation of the accuracy of the solution and limited stability range in Poisson's ratio. In this paper, we propose the mid-point averaging scheme as an alternative way of implementing the free-surface boundary conditions, and present the solution to Lamb's problem to verify our approach.

  • In computing the wave resistance numerically, satisfying the boundary condition(BC) on the body surface is not so difficult, and then what form of the BC on the free surface(FS) be used is a crucial question. To shed some light on this, we examine the various BC's on the FS, namely, the Poisson's[1], the Ogilvie's[2] and the Dawson's[3] BC, using the same panel method for submerged bodies in two-dimension. We also show the performance of the Poisson's BC for a submerged sphere and the Wigley hull. It seems that we are still in need of a theory which gives a BC on the FS more accurate than those tested, and more practically applicable than the exact nonlinear BC.

  • This study describes a method to find the torso surface potential based on the boundary element method. In order to find the torso surface potential, the governing equation was developed based on the green's second theorem. The boundary element method (BEM) which has a good computing capability in case of homogeneous and isotropic medium was applied to solve the equation. to validate the BEM, we considered a homogeneous sphere model which has an electrric dopole source inside. The results showed the good agreement between the analytic solution and the computed solution. In normal heart, the simulated torso surface isopotential maps are good agreement with that obtained form the ventricular excitation.

  • An increase in acoustic energy in a combustion chamber coupled with heat fluctuations from flame results in the occurrence of combustion instability. The assessment of combustion stability requires the prediction of acoustic energy variation by understanding the acoustical characteristics of flow boundaries in a combustion chamber. The present paper discusses about the characteristics of acoustic impedances at boundaries in terms of Strouhal number and summarizes theoretical analyses on the acoustic characteristics of injector-head-like configurations. Also, the details of the two-microphone measurement technique have been presented.
