  • Despite the ability of biochar to enhance soil fertility and to mitigate greenhouse gas, its carbon sequestration and profit analysis with arable land application have been a few evaluated. This study was conducted to estimate carbon sequestration and to evaluate profit of greenhouse gas mitigation during corn cultivation periods. For the experiment, the biochar application rates were consisted of pig compost(non application), 2,600(0.2%), 13,000(1%), and 26,000(2%) kg/ha based on pig compost application. For predicting soil carbon sequestration of biochar application, it was appeared to be linear model of Y = 0.5523X - 742.57 ($r^2=0.939^{**}$). Based on this equation, soil carbon sequestration by 0.2, 1 and 2% biochar application was estimated to be 1,235, 3,978, and 14,794 kg/ha, and their mitigations of $CO_2$-eq. emissions were estimated to be 4.5, 14.6, and 54.2 ton/ha, respectively. Their profits were estimated at $14.6 for lowest and $452 for highest. In Korea Climate Exchange, it was estimated that the market price of $CO_2$ in corn cultivation periods with 0.2, 1 and 2% biochar application was $35.6, $115.3 and $428.2 per hectare, respectively. For the plant growth response, it was observed that plant height and fresh ear yield were not significantly different among the treatments. Therefore, these experimental results might be fundamental data for assuming a carbon trading mechanism exists for biochar soil application in agricultural practices.

  • Objectives: The objectives of this study were to verify the level of ethical consciousness and decision-making of dental hygiene students in pandemic as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods: This study included 249 college students who were interested in new infectious diseases. They completed a questionnaire on a 5-point scale, and data were analyzed by independent t-test, ANOVA, and correlation. Results: The perception of COVID-19 was moderate at 3.42 points. This was higher among males, first graders, emergency management students, those who received education and experienced self-quarantine. The level of ethical consciousness was moderate (3.89 points), which was higher in sophomores, emergency management students. Ethical decision-making was moderate, with a score of 3.44, and was higher in those with first grade, field practice training, and self-quarantine experience. The level of perception positively correlated with ethical consciousness (α=0.310, p<0.01). In addition, as the degree of ethical consciousness increased, the degree of decision-making also increased (α=0.539, p<0.01). Conclusions: In a crisis, involving the spread of COVID-19, providing prospective dental hygienists accurate information and an experience similar to that faced by patient is necessary for raising the level of ethical consciousness and decision-making.

  • Internet mail has become a common communication method to send and receive an amount of data due to the tremendous high speed Internet service increment. But in other respect, the risk and damage of Junk mail is growing rapidly and nowadays Junk mail delivery problem is becoming more serious, because this is used for an attack or propagation scheme of malicious code. It's a most dangerous dominant cause for computer system accident. This paper shows the Junk mail characteristic which is based on the analysis of mail log in reality and then shows the implementation of the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) check and Personalized classification system and evaluates its performance.

  • Morphological and isozyme analyses were used to examine closely related species of Tridentiger obscurus and \ulcorner: brevispinis, a pair of cryptic species which has intricate problem with regard to species boundary, and to clarify the taxonomic position. In this study, it was revealed from their 17 allopatric streams that there are differences of band ornamentation on the lateral side and three genetic markers between two species. However, genetic relationship between them (S = 0.813, D = 0.192) was within the intraspecific level of similarity. However, at the sympatry of two species no hybrid was found except at Bangjuk stream where the electrophoretic hybrids with slight deficiency of heterozygosity were observed. It is shown that at sympatry there is a finer microenvironmental subdivision between two species at all populations including Bangjuk stream. To manifest the extent of assortative mating, four syrnpatric subpopulations at Bangjuk stream were analyzed for departure from Hardy-Weinberg equillibrium by F-statistics. All subpopulations were deviated significantly from the expectation under random mating. The evidences presented here supports the recognition of Tridentiger obscurus and T. brevispinis as semispecies in the late stage of reproductive isolation

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate types of neighborhood environments and to verify whether the types of neighborhood environments are directly related to life satisfaction of older adults. To achieve this goal, I used'2014 National Survey on Older Koreans' data which surveyed the older adults aged 65 and over living in the community and a total of 10,281 respondents were analyzed. To determine the types of neighborhood environment, the time taken by walking from community organizations or places such as grocery stores, medical centers, administrative agencies, welfare centers, public transportation was used as an neighborhood environment indicators. As a results, there were six types of neighborhood environment: a leisure-welfare walk-limited type(20.3%), a leisure-welfare long-distance type(15.5%), a balanced proximity type(7.8%), a store-traffic type(35.8%), a traffic proximity type(10.1%), and a marginalized area type(11.3%). Compared to the balanced proximity type, older adults living in a store-traffic type and a marginalized area type were more likely to have negative life satisfaction. older adults who have higher life satisfaction were more likely to be female, more educated, get higher household income, and have a spouses or partner. Moreover, the better the health conditions, the higher the frequency of contact with children, siblings, friends and neighbors, the higher the satisfaction of life. Finding from the study highlight the importance of neighborhood environment in late life and provide implications for building age-friendly community.

  • This study was conducted to aid in the development of an infection control educational program for nurses, by assessing the knowledge and educational demand of nurses for MDRO infection control. Totally, 115 nurses participated in the study. Data were collected from November 15-30, 2019, using structured questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA were applied for analyzing the data. Experience of caring for MDRO patients was reported by 86.1% nurses, whereas 67.8% nurses had received training on MDROs. The average score for knowledge on MDROs was 25.51 out of 27 points, with minimal correct answers given for the query on level of disinfection for medical equipment used by patients, criteria for the preemptive precaution, patient management in the cohort, and timing for removing personal protective equipment. The educational demand was highest for assignment to the precaution, criteria for screening examination, and management of outbreak. Also, educational needs differed with respect to the general educational characteristics and position of the individual. We propose the need to differentiate the educational status according to the career when developing the MDROs program, and the necessity to execute education of MDROs for new nurses and career nurses.

  • An area comprising Juwangsan National Park and its adjacent mountains (southeastern Korean Peninsula) is a good model system for testing the effects of physical barriers to gene flows in plant populations. We predicted that plant species consisting of isolated populations are genetically more differentiated than those that are rather continuously distributed. Most populations of Sedum polytrichoides occur in four isolated valleys, and we assessed the genetic variability and structures using twelve allozyme loci in ten populations. We also compared the present results to earlier findings pertaining to the two co-occurring herbs Hylotelephium ussuriense (${\equiv}$ Sedum ussuriense) (growing only in the four isolated valleys) and S. kamtschaticum (rather continuously distributed). We found moderate levels of within-population genetic variation in S. polytrichoides ($H_{e}=0.112$). Estimates of among-population divergence in S. polytrichoides were also moderate ($F_{ST}=0.250$) and, as expected, very similar to that of H. ussuriense (0.261) but considerably higher than the variation in S. kamtschaticum (0.165). An analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) revealed that S. polytrichoides and H. ussuriense had higher percentages of among-valley variation (19% each) than S. kamtschaticum (4%). Most of this variation, as also indicated by the STRUCTURE program, was due to differences in genetic profiles between the two central valleys. We concluded that the genetic differences observed between species (S. kamtschaticum vs. S. polytrichoides and H. ussuriense) are mainly due to differences in their distribution within the study area.

  • Since COVID-19 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2, SARS-Cov-2) was first discovered at the end of 2019, it has spread rapidly around the world. This study introduces an agent-based simulation model representing COVID-19 spread in South Korea to investigate the effect of detect level (contact tracing) on the virus spread. To develop the model, related data are aggregated and probability distributions are inferred based on the data. The entire process of infection, quarantine, recovery, and death is schematically described and the interaction of people is modeled based on the traffic data. A composite logistic functions are utilized to represent the compliance of people to the government move control such as social distancing. To demonstrate to effect of detect level on the virus spread, detect level is changed from 0% to 100%. The results indicate active contact tracing inhibits the virus spread and the inhibitory effect increases geometrically as the detect level increases.

  • The development of eggs and larvae, and minute tubercles on the skin surface of the larvae in Acheilognathus lanceolatus (=Acheilognathus intermedia intermedia) from Korea were observed. The ripe eggs of A. lanceolatus from Korea were nearly spindly. The shape was distinguishable from that of Japan. And then the embryonic development of this specimen from Korea was faster than that from Japan. As regards larval development and morphology and distribution of the minute tubercles, however, A. lanceolatus in both Korea and Japan were same except for the mentioned above two characters. These findings suggested that the two formes should be separated at subspecies level.

  • The geographic distribution and variation for Rhinogobius brunneus were surveyed by means of allozymic and morphological analyses and it was revealed that the Korean populations of R. brunneus comprise three distinct types, Type-A, Type-B, and Type-C, which show considerable differentiation to a degree of interspecific level(Rogers' S(1972): $S_{A-B}$=0.631, $S_{A-C}$=0.628, $S_{B-C}$=0.661). In addition, no evidence of gene flow among the types was found at sympatric area and it is assumed that reproductive isolation is completed. Moreover there is microhabitat segregation according to the distance from river mouth among each types and which segregation was regarded as a factor to facilitate reproductive isolating mechanism. Therefore, based on the evidence presented above, these three types of R. brunneus are considered as typical discrete species.
