  • As game markets are rapidly growing, the cost and period of game development are both increasing. These imply that the game development projects require more professional management of the project. Game mechanics is an algorithm of the gameplay on a specific game-platform. Game mechanics is concentrated on engineering elements of the game and its quality should be continuously managed from the design phase to the implementation phase. In the design phase, useful methods that can analyze the quality of game mechanics are the simulations. There are several simulation methods of the game mechanics but each method has limited use range because of its characteristics. In this Paper, we survey the game mechanics simulation methods and analyze the characteristics of each method. By the analyzed results, the Petri net model simulation method is good for analyzing total quality of no-error, optimization, and play-balance of the game mechanics but others are not.

  • Generally, the existing Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems were designed for specific purposes and their capabilities handle only specific problems. Alternatively, Artificial General Intelligence can solve new problems as well as those that are already known. Recently, General Video Game Playing the game AI version of General Artificial Intelligence, has garnered a large amount of interest among Game Artificial Intelligence communities. Although video games are the sole concern, the design of a single AI that is capable of playing various video games is not an easy process. In this paper, we propose a GreedyUCB1 algorithm and rollout method that were formulated using the knowledge from a game analysis for the Monte-Carlo Tree Search game AI. An AI that used our method was ranked fourth at the GVG-AI (General Video Game-Artificial Intelligence) competition of the IEEE international conference of CIG (Computational Intelligence in Games) 2014.

  • Accurate information on players, namely player analytics is one of the key factors in a game development environment where a scientific approach to user-oriented game analysis is in the spotlight. This study is intended to examine effects of relations between choke point types and cover pattern properties on level difficulties in FPS games. As for FPS games, interaction between players' behaviors and game levels is higher compared to other genres and choke point types as well as cover pattern properties are key factors of level design. Choke point is the main crossroad that must to pass for achieving the goal and Cover Pattern is the type of object on the level except buildings. Two elements directly or indirectly affect the level of difficulty. This study analyzed 10 types of representative FPS gameplays to classify choke point types and assigned 4 types of cover pattern properties to organize 16 target levels for the experiment. In addition, this study collected and analyzed players' 800 behavior data (video clips) from 5 repetitive plays performed by 10 players. In conclusion, analytical results obtained from the empirical study will contribute to realizing systematic game level development by providing specific information for a game level design phase. The findings are also meaningful in that they suggest efficient and effective methods of utilizing the existing academic study results for industrial applications.

  • This paper analyzed maximized the tension not by functional restriction but by psychological response inducement to form the tension of the horror game from the point of space time view. In order that, We arranged three major situations inducing the tension in the horror game and prepared space time analysis base. Pure fiction time of game itself is applied on game time excluding the time creating the cut-scene and the game space is organized with various combination of three space types. This analysis result can help horror game design by discovering the relationship between space time structure and tension forming of the horror game. These analysis results allow us to find guidelines for the time and space design of horror games that can be flexibly linked to game events and contexts by controlling the player's dynamic/static tension and temporary/continuous tension.

  • Recently, various ways are being explored for enhancing the fun of computer games and lengthening the life cycle of them. This paper proposes the more active game environment by reflecting the decision that is made by collecting and analyzing user's behavioral data. The game results and traveling information of user is using for dynamic map creation. For experiment of the proposed method, we created games using the XNA Framework and confirmed the game environment which changing properly according to the user's game play.

  • Recent technological advances and industry changes, the game industry is maximizing fun by supporting cross-play that can be enjoyed by different platform users in PC, Mobile and Console games. If the boundaries are lost through the cross play, unexpected security threats can occur due to new services, even if existing security is maintained above a certain level. The existing online game security researches are mostly fraud detection that can occur in PC and mobile environment, but it is also necessary to study the security of the console game as cross play becomes possible. Therefore, this paper systematically identifies the security threats that can occur when enjoying cross play against console game users using STRIDE and LINDDUN threat modeling, derives security requirements using the international common evaluation standard.

  • This study assumed the competitive structure based on genre classification for Korean online game market, and carried out the analysis on the degree and characteristics of the competition that appear differently in each sub market classified according to the genre. Analysis result can be summarized as follows. (1) In the view of the total play time, the proportions of the online games in each genre were appeared in the order of "RPG > FPS/RTS > Sports > Arcade/Poker > Go-stop > Board/Racing". (2) In the view of the shares in the play time, the degree of competition between games in the sub market structure of the online games according to the genre was found in the order of "RTS > Racing > FPS/Sports > Go-stop > Poker > Arcade/Board > RPG". The evaluation and interpretation of the high and low of the competition degree are as follows. As the degree of competition is higher, (RTS > Racing > ${\cdots}$) the royalty and the ratio of reusing of the users for the game is lower, and on the other hand, the tendency of replacing and using appeared higher, so the market entry barrier for a new game can be evaluated to be low. Reversely, as the degree of competition is lower, (${\cdots}$ > Arcade/Board > RPG) the royalty and the ratio of reusing of the users for the game is higher, and on the other hand, the tendency of replacing and using appeared lower, so the market entry barrier for a new game can be evaluated to be high.

  • In an arcade game, the users can easily predict the monster's action because most of the game monster's action patterns are acted only in the predefined patterns, This paper attempts how to increase the player's satisfaction while making the unpredictable action patterns easily, This research defines and realizes the monster's action patterns through the FSM algorithm. In addition, this paper added the predictable factors of monsters in an action patterns of a game monster to optimize the game, On analyzing the result of game play, the game monster's action was evenly used in the whole playing map and the game monster showed that it operated without the recursion of certain action properly.

  • This paper analyzed the posthuman features of the open-world adventure game. These games represent the player character as Posthuman Subject through the restrictions of information and body. The player explores all of the spaces to perform the quests due to nonlinearity of open-world. The interactions are restricted conflicts and it reveals through gameplay. The experiences as Posthuman Subject allow the player to embody the Hybrid Subjectivity and think about coexistence of human and inhuman.
