A Research for the Realness of Game Risks based on ANT (ANT를 통한 게임 위험의 실재성에 대한 연구)

  • The risk is subjectively perceived by the subject to judge. In the case of the game, game organizations and watchdog groups also recognized differently occurrence probability and intensity of risk to form a physical relationships of the game with each. Thus, we look only at the risk of their own subjective opinion, the fundamental solution is not possible. In this paper, we conducted a study on the form, occurrence point, and generating processes of risk by analyzing the physical components that make up the network of the game based on ATN in order to confirm definitely the substance and the presence of the game risk. In view of ANT, the game and humans constitute a network through their ability to act as each actor. If the gamer does not clearly recognize the nature of the ability to act of the game, the reverse control and the excess flow occur through remediation properties of the game. Therefore, it requires a more in-depth study in the future with respect to complex structure and relationships of the game-gamer network.

The Online Game World as a Product and the Behavioral Characteristics of Online Game Consumers as Role Player (상품으로서의 온라인 게임 세계와 역할 놀이자로서의 온라인 게임 소비자의 행동특성)

  • This study attempted to explore how online game is endowed new meaning and function and changed into totally different product in result by recognition and consuming behavior(game activity) of game users. The subjects of this study are famous Internet based online games called 'Lineage' and 'EverQuest'. These two online games are physically similar games. Both are MMORPG and community-based games. While Lineage became a cyber world as a part of the real world, EverQuest was a game product. This study explored the recognition of garners about game world and different consuming behavior pattern(game activity pattern) in game world made by different recognition of online game. The result from exploring the differences in the recognition of game world showed Lineage garners regarded Lineage world as another living space or a part of real world they can explore and express psychological need and self-identity or self-image and live through diverse activities. But EverQuest garners regarded EverQuest as a product for experience of fantasy world. The result from comparing the game consuming behaviors showed that different recognition of game world made the differences in the game consuming behavior. The results of the present study supported that the recognition of consumers about digital images or content poducts like online game can be different by the value and experience of consumer, and the different recognition make the different consuming behavior of similar or same products. The results supported that the meaning and value of digital images or digital content are endowed by consumers.

Analysis of Korean Gamers' Personality Patterns with respect to the Victim/Attacker of the Misogyny and the Misandry in Game Playing (게임 내 이성 혐오 가해자와 피해자의 성격 패턴 분석)

  • As female gamers are rapidly increasing, the misogyny and the misandry in game playing situation are also increasing. Recent #Gamergate and GodGunbae incident exhibit that such discriminative/hate behaviour in game playing can be developed into real physical threat or crime. In this paper, we investigate and analyze young Korean game players on how the attackers group, victims group, and gender-issue-indifferent group behave differently in game playing through survey. We found that male gamers had high hostile sexism against female gamers especially on females' game attitude and streotyped hatred with respect to the gender ${\times}$ group interaction. In big-5 personality test, however, it is not clear if attackers and victims had a noticeable different personality patterns. In result, we verify that there exist gender stereotype and high hostile sexism among young Korean gamers. Active gender-equality education on their adolescent period is necessary to avoid such destructive hatred in game playing.

  • 본 논문은 항상 지니고 있는 스마트폰으로 노트북 사용자가 마우스를 휴대해야 하는 불편함을 해결하기 위해 이를 대체할 수 있는 안드로이드용 스마트폰 마우스 어플리케이션을 설계하였다. 우리는 기존의 다른 연구나 실제 이미 출시된 마우스 어플리케이션들과 달리, 블루투스를 이용하여 인터넷을 사용할 수 없는 상황에서도 작동하도록 하였으며 터치패드가 아닌 가속도 센서를 통해 실제 마우스처럼 동작을 인식하도록 하였다. 또한, 스마트폰 어플리케이션의 장점인 추가적인 기능을 쉽게 추가할 수 있다는 점을 살려서 진동 모드, 자동 연사, dpi 조절 기능 등을 포함한 게이머 마우스로 설계하였다. 정확한 마우스 포인터의 이동을 표현하기 위해 운동방정식으로 센서값을 속도로 바꿔서 이를 사용하였다. 그리고 센서 오차로 인한 오류 막기 위해 센서값을 필터링하였다.

A Case Study on World of Warcraft Storytelling's Positive Emotion-inducing Effects (World of Warcraft의 정서유발스토리텔링 사례연구)

  • Game is the latest type of Gesamtkunstwerk encompassing humanistic and engineering creativity. Nevertheless, Korea's game industry faces a crisis. The purpose of this study is to consider positive emotion-inducing effects as a way to deal with it. Among others, storytelling of , one of the most representative MMORPG games in the world, was selected for the study on various positive emotion-inducing effects. In the story of , the view of the world, characters and incidents are vital to the game and the study is focused on their emotion-inducing effects among the users based on actual examples. As a result, it was confirmed that the positive emotion-inducing storytelling would provide a possibility to reduce negative sentiment towards games, address crisis Korea's game industry faces, and interact with gamers in a positive direction.

Study of Korean College Students' Perspectives on Virtual Reality Game Experience (가상현실 게임 경험에 대한 한국 대학생들의 관점연구)

  • In Korea there has been scant research on VR games. This work focuses then on college students' perceptions of VR games, factors motivating them to experience VR games, the important features of VR games. This study presents the results of in-depth interview with 10 college students who had recently experienced VR games. VR games, it is found, provide a high level of virtual reality, immersiveness, and controllability. Such attributes may be considered distinctive to mobile, PC, and video games. Gamers' intention to re-experience VR games is influenced by the following important factors: 4D effects in VR games, various VR game contents, freedom in games, unique experience chances, sense of reality, sense of thrill, action-based experiences, and playing in group (multiple player). Study findings also suggest that three important features in VR games known as immersion, engagement, and virtual presence play a pivotal role in influencing positive attitudes toward VR games. Practical implications are also discussed.the help of information technology.

  • 한 미디어를 다른 미디어에서 표상하는 것을 재매개 remediation (이재현, 2006)라고 한다. 보통 재매개는 원 소스 멀티 유즈 혹은 재목적화 repurposing로 알려져 있다. 한 미디어가 다른 미디어를 통해 표상된다는 사실은 한가지 컨텐츠를 다양한 창구 혹은 채널을 통해 내보냄으로써 해당 컨텐츠의 가치를 극대화한다는 경영학적 의미뿐만 아니라, 미학적 사회학적 의미를 가진다. 특정한 미디어를 통해 보여지는 컨텐츠가 이질적인 다른 미디어를 통해 표상되면, 컨텐츠 뿐만 아니라 표상되는 미디어도 쉽게 인식하게 되면서 미학적 의미를 갖는다. 가령 액자 속에 들어있는 풍경화를 보는 순간, 액자라는 창을 넘어서 그림이 표상하는 풍경을 보려고 하지만, 액자 속의 퐁경화를 텔레비전을 통해 보게 되면, 시청자는 그림을 둘러싼 액자 혹은 그 그림이 위치한 미술관을 인식하기 마련이다. 또한 새롭게 등장하는 미디어와 그 종사자는 기존 미디어 혹은 종사자들의 사회적 지위를 표상하면서 기존 미디어의 지위를 이어받으려고 하면서 사회적 의미를 갖는다. 컴퓨터 게임이라는 미디어가 텔레비전을 통해 방송되는 e-sports는 디지털 컨텐츠의 전형적 재매개의 예가 될 수 있다. e-sports중계는 컴퓨터 게임 화면만을 보여주지 않는다. 게이머의 표정, 게임의 제반 정보를 나타내는 게임 화면의 세부 창들, 관중들의 반응, 해설자의 해설, 리플레이 화면 등을 동시 혹은 선형적으로 보여줌으로써, 시청자로 하여금 끊임없이 컴퓨터 게임이라는 미디어를 인식하게 한다. 또한 e-sports는 이름에서도 드러나듯이, sports의 사회적 지위를 표상한다. e-sports 플레이어들이 선수로 불리고, 이들이 프로 게임단을 조직해 활동한다. e-sports(스타크래프트의 경우)는 상설 경기장에서, 종종 체육관에서 대규모 관중들 앞에서 보여짐으로써 기존 sports 경기를 표상한다. 재매개는 새로운 미디어가 등장하면서 자연스럽게 취하는 전략이다. 새로운 미디어가 쏟아지는 디지털 미디어 시대, e-sports의 재매개 전략을 살펴봄으로써 새로운 미디어가 미학적, 사회적으로 자리잡을 수 있는 함의를 얻을 수 있다.

Guitar Rhythm Game Using Motion Capture (모션 캡쳐를 이용한 기타 리듬게임)

  • Microsoft released motion sensing device named Kinnect on early 2010, which is available for developing Xbox 360 game and entertainment software. Also many third party libraries and applications are developed for Kinnect. In this paper, we studied and developed guitar rhythm game on Kinnect using three sensor units on it. Rhythm game is the most popular game genre for many game devices including PC, console device, and smart phone. The main reasons for their popularity depends on their simplicity, short learning time and physical activity with rhythms. We developed the game screen and layout on DirectX 11, also we used OpenNI library for recognize physical activity of gamer's body and fingers, and OpenGL for body gestures on the game.

  • Users connect to game server for considerably many hours and perform their roles in MMORPG(Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), users' immersion degree is very higher than other games, have known affluent contents make users play various roles in game world. However, although contents of games are improved quite much, MMORPG remains still boring game. It is because that the NPC (Non Player Character)' behavior patterns that are the most important elements to make games fun are so simple. So, in this paper we proposed a method to create NPC that react in player's inclination by implanting personality and emotion to NPC.

Design and Implementation of Engine to Control Characters By Using Machine Learning Techniques (기계학습 기법을 사용한 캐릭터 제어 엔진의 설계 및 구현)

  • This paper proposes the design and implementation of engine to control characters by using machine teaming techniques. Because the proposed engine uses the context data in the rum time as the knowledge data, there is a merit which the player can not easily recognize the behavior pattern of the intelligent character. To do this, the paper proposes to develop the module which gathers and trains the context data and the module which tests to decide the optimal context control for the given context data. The developed engine is ported to FEAR and run with Quake2 and experimented far the correctness of the development and its efficiency. The experiments show that the developed engine is operated well and efficiently within the limited time.
