Density Measurement for Continuous Flow Segment Using Two Point Detectors (두 개의 지점 검지기를 이용한 연속류 구간의 밀도측정 방안)

  • Density is the most important congestion indicator among the three fundamental flow variables, flow, speed and density. Measuring density in the field has two different ways, direct and indirect. Taking photos with wide views is one of direct ways, which is not widely used because of its cost and lacking of proper positions. Another direct density measuring method using two spot detectors has been introduced with the concept of instantaneous density, average density and measurement interval. The relationship between accuracy and measurement interval has been investigated using the simulation data produced by Paramics API function. Finally, density measurement algorithm has been suggested including exponential smoothing for device development.

  • In order to design and plan a city, the importance of collecting traffic information increases. However, current method to collecting traffic information by using sensors layed on the roads is not appropriate for exceptional cases such as national highway or newly planned city area, where sensors are already not layed. To scope the cases, the traffic information is estimated from traffic information of surroundings area. This paper develops portable traffic volume measuring equipment utilizing two or radar detector, so that more useful traffic information can be obtained in any environments. Furthermore, the system allows users to be able to instantly analyze gathered data on the site. The system has been tested in the field and proved the excellences theough the field test.

Estimation of Link Travel Speed Using Single Loop Detector Measurements for Signalized Arterials (단일루프검지기를 이용한 간선도로 실시간 통행속도 추정 방법론)

  • This paper presents a methodology for estimating average travel speed using volume and occupancy data from single magnetic loop detectors for signalized arterials. Three methods were developed and evaluated using field data: VPLUSKO method, fuzzy control method, and neural network method. While the VPLUSKO method is easy to apply, it results poor performances compared to other methods. The neural network method showed the best performances among the candidate methods. This method revealed the weakness in transferability, however. From limited cases of field test, it was concluded that the method of the fuzzy control application showed reasonable performance of estimation. It was also demonstrated that the fuzzy control method has the capability of transferability.

Development of a Freeway Travel Time Estimating and Forecasting Model using Traffic Volume (차량검지기 교통량 데이터를 이용한 고속도로 통행시간 추정 및 예측모형 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to develop travel time estimation and prediction models on the freeway using measurements from vehicle detectors. In this study, we established a travel time estimation model using traffic volume which is a principle factor of traffic flow changes by reviewing existing travel time estimation techniques. As a result of goodness of fit test. in the normal traffic condition over 70km/h, RMSEP(Root Mean Square Error Proportion) from travel speed is lower than the proposed model, but the proposed model produce more reliable travel times than the other one in the congestion. Therefore in cases of congestion the model uses the method of calculating the delay time from excess link volumes from the in- and outflow and the vehicle speeds from detectors in the traffic situation at a speed of over 70km/h. We also conducted short term prediction of Kalman Filtering to forecast traffic condition and more accurate travel times using statistical model The results of evaluation showed that the lag time occurred between predicted travel time and estimated travel time but the RMSEP values of predicted travel time to observations are as 1ow as that of estimation.

A Link Travel Time Estimation Algorithm Based on Point and Interval Detection Data over the National Highway Section (일반국도의 지점 및 구간검지기 자료의 융합을 통한 통행시간 추정 알고리즘 개발)

  • Up to now studies on the fusion of travel time from various detectors have been conducted based on the variance raito of the intermittent data mainly collected by GPS or probe vehicles. The fusion model based on the variance ratio of intermittent data is not suitable for the license plate recognition AVIs which can deal with vast amount of data. This study was carried out to develop the fusion model based on travel time acquired from the license plate recognition AVIs and the point detectors. In order to fuse travel time acquired from the point detectors and the license plate recognition AVIs, the optimized fusion model and the proportional fusion model were developed in this study. As a result of verification, the optimized fusion model showed the superior estimation performance. The optimized fusion model is the dynamic fusion ratio estimation model on real time base, which calculates fusion weights based on real time historic data and applies them to the current time period. The results of this study are expected to be used effectively for National Highway Traffic Management System to provide traffic information in the future. However, there should be further studies on the Proper distance for the establishment of the AVIs and the license plate matching rate according to the lanes for AVIs to be established.

  • The homogeneous road section is defined as one consisted of similar traffic characteristics focused on demand and supply. The criteria, in the aspect of demand, are the diverging rate and the ratio of green time to cycle time at signalized intersection, and distance between the signalized intersections. The criteria, in that or supply, are the traffic patterns such as traffic volume and its speed. In this study, the effective method to generate valuable data, pointing out the problems of removal method of obscure data, is proposed using data collected from Gonjiam IC to Jangji IC on the national highway No.3. Travel times are collected with licence matching method and traffic volume and speed are collected from detectors. Futhermore, the method of selecting homogeneous road section is proposed considering demand and supply aspect simultaneously. This method using outlier filtering algorithm can be applied to generate the travel time forecasting model and to revise the obscured of missing data transmitting from detectors. The point and link data collected at the same time on the rational highway can be used as a basis predicting the travel time and revising the obscured data in the future.

  • Recently, for a smart city, there is a demand for a technology for acquiring traffic information using an intelligent road infrastructure and managing it. In the meantime, various technologies such as loop detectors, ultrasonic detectors, and image detectors have been used to analyze road traffic information but these have difficulty in collecting various informations, such as traffic density and length of a queue required for building a traffic information DB for moving vehicles. Therefore, in this paper, assuming a smart city built on the basis of a camera infrastructure such as intelligent CCTV on the road, a solution for calculating the traffic DB of moving vehicles using Vision Tracking of road CCTV cameras is presented. Simulation and verification of basic performance were conducted and solution can be usefully utilized in related fields as a new intelligent traffic DB calculation solution that reflects the environment of road-mounted CCTV cameras and moving vehicles in a variable smart city road environment. It is expected to be there.

Analysis of the Effectiveness of Tunnel Traffic Safety Information Service Using RADAR Data Based on Surrogate Safety Measures (레이더 검지기 자료를 활용한 SSM 기반 터널 교통안전정보 제공 서비스 효과분석)

  • Furnishing traffic safety information can contribute to providing hazard warnings to drivers, thereby avoiding crashes. A smart road lighting platform that instantly recognizes road conditions using various sensors and provides appropriate traffic safety information has therefore been developed. This study analyzes the short-term traffic safety improvement effects of the smart road lighting's tunnel traffic safety information service using surrogate safety measures (SSM). Individual driving behavior was investigated by applying the vehicle trajectory data collected with RADAR in the Anin Avalanche 1 and 2 tunnel sections in Gangneung. Comparing accumulated speeding, speed variation, time-to-collision, and deceleration rate to avoid the crash before and after providing traffic safety information, all SSMs showed significant improvement, indicating that the tunnel traffic safety information service is beneficial in improving traffic safety. Analyzing potential crash risk in the subdivided tunnel and access road sections revealed that providing traffic safety information reduced the probability of traffic accidents in most segments. The results of this study will be valuable for analyzing the short-term quantitative effects of traffic safety information services.

  • 최근에 초전도 산업과 저온 작동 정밀 센서 기술의 발전으로 극저온 냉동기 또는 극저온 한제에 의해 냉각된 저온 용기의 저온 유지 기술이 필요하게 되었다. 또한 의료용 MRI, 야간 투시경용 적외선 센서, 이동통신무선기지국용 초전도 필터 등과 같이 일반인들도 극저온을 이용하게 되어 보다 사용하기 쉽고 안정적인 저온용기가 요구되고 있다. 저온용기의 저온 유지 기술은 진공 및 복사 단열 기술 뿐만 아니라 극저온 발생기술과 진공 발생 기술이 같이 고려되어야 하는 복합기술로서 앞으로 전자, 정보 통신, 나노, 바이오 산업 등에도 널리 활용될 수 있는 기반 기술로 자리 매김 할 것으로 보여 관련 연구자들의 많은 노력과 관심이 요구된다.

A study on vehicle tracking under various weather conditions (다양한 일기 조건하에서의 차량 추적)

  • 영상 검지기를 통한 차량 탐지 방법은 날씨와 같은 환경에 민감하게 반응하여 차량의 미탐지 및 오탐지가 발생하게 된다. 이를 해결하기 위해 다양한 일기조건하에서 차량 추적 방법에 대해 제안한다. 다양한 일기 조건하에서의 차량 추적은 눈, 비, 안개 환경에서 각 날씨의 특징을 분석, 반영하여 차량을 탐지하고 추적한다. 눈이 내리는 환경에서는 눈이 카메라 가까이에서 차량 blob으로 잘못 탐지되는 blob을 제거하기 위해 카메라와의 거리에 따른 실제 크기를 구하는 size filtering 방법을 사용한다. 비, 안개 환경에서는 흐릿해진 영상 때문에 차량이 교통신호등에 의해 차량 정체시 여러 차량이 하나의 blob으로 탐지되는 문제점을 해결하기 위해 이전 영상에서의 차량 위치 정보를 이용한 재 blob화 방법을 사용한다.
