This experiment was conducted to determine cutting time on the yield and nutritive value of brittle culm rice. Plant height and number of tiller were significantly different between variety and cutting time, and regrowth plant height and rate of regrowth tiller were tall and high at the early cutting. Early cutting increased crude protein, fat and NFE(Nitrogen free extract) content in the harvested foliage but crude fiber and ash content were decreased in the first cutting. Those of second cutting also showed reverse tendency. Fresh and dry matter yield were highest on heading date cutting, and those of KL501 were higher than those of Seomjinbyeo. TDN(Total digestible nutrients) content was higher with earlier cutting for initiated cutting, but that of second cutting was reversed. KL501 showed higher TDN content than Seomjinbyeo did at the any cutting time. TDN yield of heading date cutting was higher than that of the other cutting time.

This experiment was carried out to determine the growth characteristics, dry matter and TDN yield of corn for silage (Zea mays L.), soil nitrate in infiltration water by chemical fertilizer and different manure application(C; chemical fertilizer + chemical fertilizer, T1; Lime +chemical fertilizer + chemical fertilizer, T2; swine manure + swine manure, T3; Lime + swine manure + swine manure, T4; swine manure +chemical fertilizer). The results obtained are summarizes as follows; The mean growth characteristics of T3 treatment(soil treatment: lime + base fertilizer: liquid manure + additional fertilizer: chemical fertilizer) was higher than those of other treatments. The highest yield of dry matter and TDN was obtained in T3 treatment with 18,611 and 13,746 kg/ha, respectively(P<0.05), and the lowest in T1 treatment with 13,529 and 9,541 kg/ha, respectively(P<0.05). The contents of NDF and ADF were not significant different among treatments. However, NDF and ADF content among treatments were the highest with T1 treatment and the lowest with T3 treatment. $NO_3$ level of soil was hardly influenced by the different manure application treatment, and not affected during the experiment time.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of manure and chemical fertilizer on the forage yield and quality of oat at no-tillage. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design. The three treatments were: chemical fertilizer, manure fertilizer, and chemical and manure mixture. Seedling vigor was higher at chemical fertilizer than manure, but more greener at manure application than chemical fertilizer. Dry matter (DM) content of oat at manure was higher than chemical and mixture fertilizer (p<0.05). There was no difference in DM yield, TDN (total digestible nutrients) yield, and CP (crude protein) yield of oat at no-tillage system, but the fresh yield was significantly higher in chemical fertilizer compared to manure. The CP content for oat was significantly higher in manure than chemical fertilizer. However, no significant effects were observed for NDF (neutral detergent fiber), ADF (acid detergent fiber), TDN and RFV (relative feed value) in different fertilizer application. Based on the results of this study, manure don't affected forage production and quality of no-till oat except CP content because forage oat is used off-season crop.

These experiments are being conducted to obtain data of plant height, panicle length, heading date, number of culm, and fresh and dry weight, crude protein, acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), total digestible nutrients (TDN) by six times seeding of 10 days interval ranging from May 1st to June 21st for two types of barnyard millet from the Suwon area in Korea. In the early-heading type, IT 170609 (Echinochloa crus-galli), the plant height and the number of culm per square meters are decreased by late seeding relatively, and heading date is 7 to 10 days earlier than the late seeding. And the dry weight of forage is rapidly decreased after the June 11th seeding. In the late-heading type, IT 195422 (Echinochloa frumentacea), the plant height and the number of culm per square meters are also decreased by late seeding relatively, and heading date is about 13 days earlier than late seeding. The dry weight of forage was rapidly decreased after the June 11th seeding. In both two types, the nutritive value of ADF, NDF, and TDN are not changed by late seeding, but crude protein is increased by late seeding. The TDN yields of late-heading type, IT 195400, show average amounts in the June 1st seeding, but the TDN yield of early-heading type, IT 170606, indicate safety amounts of dry weight to the March 21st seeding. And these data are available for cropping systems, cultivating barnyard millet in summer and cereals for forage in winter, to get high production of forage in Korea.
This study was conducted to assess effects of supplying different types of nitrogen sources as fertilizers on productivity and feed values of barley and rye as winter forage crops, and ultimately done to get good quality of organic forages with higher fertilization of soil. For barley, N+P+K plots were significantly (P<0.05) higher in annual dry matter (DM) and total digestible nutrients (TDN) yields than other plots. However, cattle manure plots had significantly (P<0.05) higher annual DM and TDN than P+K and non-fertilizer plots. Plots of 50%-cattle manure and mixed sowing with hairy vetch or forage pea were higher than only 50%-cattle manure plot, particularly, these were significantly higher than non-fertilizer, and their crude protein (CP) yields were much higher than other plots. Crude protein contents were significantly higher in N+P+K and 50%-cattle manure slurry plots than non-fertilizer and P+K plots, and plots of mixed sowing with hairy vetch or forage pea in application of 50%-cattle manure had higher CP content than other plots. ADF content was lowest in 50%-cattle manure+forage pea plots, but highest in 100%-cattle manure plots. NDF content was lowest in legumes-mixed sowing, but highest in 100%-cattle manure plots. TDN content was the highest in forage pea plots, and plots of 50%-cattle manure and legumes-mixed sowing had high RFV, but cattle manure plots rich in ADF and NDF content had the lowest TDN and RFV. For rye, plots of 50%-cattle manure+hairy vetch mixed sowing, and N+P+K application had significantly higher annual DM, CP and TDN than other plots except for cattle manure. DM productive efficiency to nitrogen fertilization was markedly higher for cattle manure plots than for chemical fertilizer. This tendency was more conspicuous in plots of 50% cattle manure+legumes-mixed sowing. CP content was higher for N+P+K plot than for all plots, and plots of 50%-cattle manure + legumes-mixed sowing were significantly higher than other plots. On the contrary, forage pea-mixed sowing plot had the lowest ADF and NDF, but TDN and RFV were significantly (P<0.05) higher than other plots. Grass crop cultivation together with legumes by applying livestock manure to soil may lead to higher palatability of livestock, and better quality of forage. Furthermore, cattle manure application increased production yield per ha and CP contents. Thus, when applying forage crops produced by cattle manure application and mixed sowing to organic livestock production, it was conceived that forages produced might become a substitute for foreign organic grain as protein sources.
The four rice(Oryza sativa L.) lines, previously demonstrated to have vigorous herbage production at the vegetative growth stage, were investigated for their growth traits, dry matter yield and feed value using the twice-cutting system that 1st-cut is harvested at panicle formation stage and 2nd-cut at the yellow ripen stage. The twice-cutting system is regarded as an effective method in the production of forage rice by escaping lodging and insect damages caused by the overgrowth and typhoon around the heading stage. The feed value of the twice-cut rice plant of there lines were compared with the control of normal, cutting at the yellow ripen stage. The relative feed value(RFV), the total digestible nutrient(TDN) and the crude protein(CP) content of the twice-cut straw were higher the control in every lines. However, the dry matter yield (DMY), represented by the summed forage production of 1st and 2nd cut-rice plant, were lower the control, and the DMY of straws were increase but grains were decrease for twice-cutting system. In addition, TDN yield showed the similar tendency with DMY.Recently, as one of the breeding aims the researches for improving the digestibility of rice straw have been required. In this regard, twice-cutting system is recognized with the fact that it has the effect which raises the digestibility of the straw. Especially, the 2nd cut of IR73111-B-R-15-3-1 line was similar to the control at the TDN yield of straw, and would be used as a breeding material for product the roughage of good quality.

To select the forage millet variety suitable for cultivation in the reclaimed tideland, forage yield and feed value were compared for six millet cultivars grown at the Dae-Ho reclaimed tideland, Korea, from March to October in 2004. The emergency rate of summer green was 95.0% which was more than those of any other vatieties. Fresh and dry matter yield of summer green were 21,444 and 5,296 kg/ha that were more than those of any other vatieties. respectively. The content of crude protein was the highest in Shirohie variety as 18.22%. TDN (total digestible nutrient) content was the highest in Siberian variety and the lowest in Panorama variety. Considering the emergency rate, forage production and feed value, Summer green was the most suitable variety in reclaimed tidelands.
