The number of people over sixty five years old is steadily rising and the elderly housing we continuously increasing. Regarding such a trend this research has been focused to propose the methodology of lighting design for elderly people. For this purpose, we researched the basic theory of lighting design through literature review, first. In addition, measurement and analysis of the light environment and light plan in elderly housing has been carried out by case studies. And we organized lighting scenario by the daily life-pattern of the elderly, and than planned lighting interface to be easy to control.

The finding and implications of this study were as follows. The middle-aged people were trying to pursue leisurely and healthy life. Therefore, they prefer the high service quality of health, medical facilities, culture, leisure, and entertainment facilities. These trends were caused by the expansion of the five-days working styles, the improvements of the smart consumptions, the high levels of the education, and the high social and economic participations of the females. The overall changes in social, cultural, economical circumstances made them different from other generations. Also current middle-aged people were more challenging and active and they thought themselves young compared with the people of the older generation. In the future those middle-aged people's life style will be more diversified. Therefore new housing plans are necessary for the middle-aged popple to satisfy their diverse housing needs and housing circumstances. This study aimed to investigate the impact of the quality of the street environment in residential areas on the mental health of urban residents, considering the frequency of street use. Using a zero-inflated negative binomial regression model, the study analyzed the influence of walking frequency and the street environment on depressive symptoms of urban residents. The research focused on Seoul, South Korea, in 2017, with depressive symptoms as the dependent variable and street environment variables, walking variables, and individual characteristics as independent variables. Additionally, the study explores the interaction effect of street greenery and walking frequency to analyze the synergistic impacts of walking in green spaces on mental health. The findings indicate that a higher ratio of street green areas is associated with fewer depressive symptoms. Increased walking frequency is linked to a reduction in depressive symptoms or a weaker manifestation of such symptoms. The interaction effect confirms that more frequent walking in green spaces is associated with weaker depressive symptoms. Lower ratios of visual complexity are correlated with reduced depressive symptoms. This study contributes to addressing urban residents' mental health issues at the community level by emphasizing the importance of the street green environment in residential areas.

Three books of home economics were published in Korea 1907 and approved as textbooks for women's education by Korean government from 1908 to 1910 and by the Choseon Government-General from 1912 to 1914. The textbooks contained modern knowledge about housing which was focused on hygine matters and most systematic among the knowledge of that time. The original book of the three was Sinsen Gajunhak(新選家政學) by Shimoda Yutako published in Japan 1990 after her surveying western home economics knowledge. It means the modern housing knowledge educated in Korea around 1910 was affected by Western modern thinking in home economics field that gave the responsibility of housing cleanness for family members' health to housewives. So the knowledge even made the educated women to practice their learning only as wives, which was still traditional.
Promoting barrier-free living environments is necessary in residential facilities on which senior citizens rely most of their lives. Safety of elder people can be reassured by a certification system based on the existing barrier-free certification program in public facilities. The range of certification does not cover all living area, but is limited to the bathroom, which is a sanitary space. Given the nature of BIM modeling, an existing multi-family building was selected and modeled, as the certification process requires all the necessary information and various viewport. BIM modeling of the bathroom was conducted in accordance with the requirements of the certification for barrier-free living environment. The results suggested that there is a need for a removal of thresholds, larger doors, better selection of finishing materials, sufficient room for a wheelchair, larger space next to the toilet, and the availability of an emergency bell and grab bars. Such information supports the potentials of BIM modeling, and it is expected that an automated certification system would be established in the foreseeable future.
The purpose of this study is to examine the current status of allergic diseases associated with the housing environment and the psychological attitude of residents towards relevant risk factors. This study surveyed 1,200 people. In the first round, 200 participants were questioned through direct survey methods, while 1,000 participants filled out an online survey in the second round. Selected study subjects consisted of allergic diseases known to be closely related to housing environment factors. With advice from medical experts, the analysis included the examination of the prevalence status regarding five types of allergy-related diseases-allergic conjunctivitis, allergic rhinitis, allergic dermatitis, asthma and headache-with the range of disease incidence set within the past ten years. The survey was conducted on all age groups except those nine years old and younger, and the findings are as follows. Allergic diseases were found to be more prevalent among women than men. Residents identified effective methods for the alleviation and treatment of allergic diseases as ventilation, use of environmentally-friendly finishing materials, maintenance of a clean living space through cleaning or washing, and sunlight exposure. Residents' understanding of allergic diseases varied depending on their experience with such diseases and residential characteristics.
The purpose of this study is to understand how visual factors of healthcare facilities would have an effect on psycho-physiological health of inpatients. First, visual factors of a ward, where inpatients mostly spend their time in a hospital, were extracted in order to find out how visual environment would affect inpatient's health. Then experimental samples were made and inpatients' reactions against them were analyzed. This study is composed of two approaches a questionnaire for psychological analysis and an electroencephalogram measurement for physiological analysis. The results of this experiment show that psycho-physiological health of subject's can be remarkably improved according to artificial arrangement of visual environment of a ward. Especially, they also show that insignificant changes of visual environment such as furnishing trees, flowerpots or framed pictures in a ward, where there is no view and completely closed, will be able to exert a range of positive effects on an subject's psycho-physiological health. In conclusion, further studies need to be delivered about indoor designs to positively bring in natural elements to a ward as well as visibility ratio of views and skylines from a ward.
The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between the physical environment and mental health of the adolescents in urban and rural areas. This study was performed using the questionnaire survey method. The research subjects were high school students in Seoul and Jeollabuk-do rural areas. The questionnaire inquired about the housing, neighborhood, and school environments, and these contents were depended on previous studies. The survey was conducted from August 27 to September 6, 2013, and 446 data were collected. They were analyzed with the SPSS 12.0 program. The main results are as follows. 1) The urban adolescents evaluated physical environment to be better than rural adolescents. Specifically, the urban adolescents evaluated 'facility/accommodation', 'security/health', 'amenity' of the housing environment, 'disorder', 'comfortability', 'nature awareness' of the neighborhood environment, and 'noise', 'overcrowding', and 'security' of the school environment to be higher. 2) The urban adolescents' self-esteem was significantly higher than rural ones. 3) The physical environment factors, which had effects on adolescents' mental health, are different depending on the areas, and so adolescents' physical environment would be designed by the local environment conditions.
Though super-highrise apartment buildings have become increasingly widespread, their negative effects on the residents have not been investigated sufficiently and practically in domestic situations. In particular, the foreign discussion on residential environment and the residents' health can not be applied domestically due to physical or cultural differences including physical residential space structure and life-style. Therefore, this research aims to investigate the inter-relationship between residence in super-highrise apartments and their residents' health, to reveal the problems which exist. for this purpose, a parental-response health evaluation - questionnaire on children's physical, emotional and behavioral characteristics was given to a total of 336 persons. The health of the children living in super-highrise apartments is evaluated to be good, and is related to what floor of the apartment building people live on. It is represented that the higher the story, the better the children's health. However, there is no meaningful difference according to various evaluation items including the frequency and type of disease, emotional health, behavioral characteristics, etc. Therefore, it cannot be said that children's health shows no meaningful differences depending on what floor they live on. The parents dwelling on higher floors of the building display a more careful educational attitude. This is because they feel anxious about the children's safety as shown by the fact they live on higher stories.
