A Study on Mine Artillery Hit Using DEVS (DEVS을 이용한 갱도포병 타격에 관한 연구)

  • The enemy will attempt to destroy our troop's core facilities using various fire supports at the beginning of war. Among these fire supports, artillery is given a most deal of weight and mine artillery is a great threat to our troops because it has a superior predominance on the ability of survival. A study about hitting mine artillery has been developed inside the military field only. However, these studies had been mostly qualitative analyses, thus having limitations in the aspects of nonobjectiveness and simplicity. Current study attempts to develop theory on hitting mine artillery beginning from mine opening until the target got hit, based on the assumption that one side which has inferior force will attack first. We studied on hitting mine artillery in a quantitative way using DEVS method.

Our troops are planning to introduce UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) to overcome these difficulties. A study about hitting mine artillery has been developed inside the military field only. However, these studies had been mostly qualitative analyses, thus having limitations in the aspects of non objectiveness and simplicity. We propose a new method to evaluate about working effect of UAV hitting mine artillery. We studied on hitting mine artillery in a quantitative way using CA (Cellular Automata) simulation.

  • Quick precision-strike capability of the artillery will be an important factor in modern and future war and it's represented by NCW and EBO. This study is based on artillery which has time limitation of firing, such as artillery which hides when not firing, and modeling various situations to decide firing order and who to shoot. The main purpose of this study is to suggest a mathematical programming model and a genetic algorithm which satisfies the limitation of firing time. The objective function is to minimize the total firing time to spend. The results of the suggested algorithm quickly gives a best solution for a large scale field artillery targeting problems.

  • In counterfire warfare, it is important to detect and attack enemy targets faster than the enemy using sensing and shooting assets. The artillery assets of North Korea are mostly mine artillery and much more than those of South Korea. To cope with sudden fire attacks from North Korea, we need to improve capability of our artillery. In this paper, we discuss issues and problems of our counterfire warfare systems and processes to overcome numerical inferiority and defend against the mine artillery. We develop a simulation model for counterfire warfare and analyze effectiveness of our counterfire weapon systems and operations based on various counterfire warfare scenarios. Finally, we propose methods of tactical operations and acquisition strategies of counterfire weapon systems, including detaction, firing, and protection assets.

  • In recent warfare, importance of counter-fire is increased. New weapon system and counter-fire have critical impact on defeating of the enemy. At an initial battle counter-fire, we need to study about striking plan against the enemy mine artillery. In this paper, we studied, using MANA(agent based model), how much cannon's hit probability and UAV-based target acquisition have influence on striking the mine artillery. We constructed MANA model based on the characteristics of a regional database of Korean peninsula. If we develop detail database of the ROK Army, the proposed MANA model can be used as a war-game model for the regimental level of the Army.

Analysis Procedure for Fire Power Suppression on Enemy Artillery Base Using FASCAM (FASCAM을 이용한 적 진지 지역 화력 억제 분석 절차 연구)

  • FASCAM is a newly introduced mean against enemy fire power and supposed to be scattered on base areas in front of a tunnel so as to deter maneuver and shooting of enemy artilleries. However, for its characteristics different from conventional munitions, only a few studies have been undertaken on operations system using this new measure. In this research, we propose a procedure to describe and analyze mathematically an operation system for suppression of enemy fire power using FASCAM. Two suggested simulation methods, impact point generation and density integration, both can describe the actual operation rationally and each has advantages of its own respectively. Further, we demonstrated an example analysis to derive an optimal suppression plan based on the proposed procedure.

An Improvement of Hit-probability and an Efficient Counter-fire Execution (명중확률 개선 및 효율적인 대화력전 수행방안)

  • At an initial battle stage, counter-fire capability have critical impact on defeating the enemy in the future warfare. In this paper, we proposed an efficient method of counter-fire execution. To do that, hit-probability for each artillery type was evaluated using CEP and applied to calculate new target reference table of a counter-fire operation. In order to compare new result to the one obtained by using previous reference table from BTCS, we did simulation using MANA model. Simulation outputs show that new method is superior to previous method of counter-fire operation in various scenarios depending upon each method and usage of UAV.

  • With the realization of the importance of the NWI, iterated by the Cheonan Ship sink and the YP-Do shelling, this thesis separates the NWI from the peninsula, regarding it separate from the Korea Theater of Operations, and suggests the method to establish NCOE with consideration to the characteristics of separated theater as well as the current situation. Although the NWI holds strategic value, systematical NCOE of surveillance and reconnaissance system, command and control system, and precision strike system is not yet established. Pertaining to this issue, Architecting was utilized to identify improvement measures and of the identified improvement measures, improvement on the "strike on nK hardened artillery sites with K-9 Self-Propelled Artillery in correlations with theater ISR" shows greatly improved strike effects when conducting simulations based on the Operation-Plan Analysis Model. Such a method of NCOE establishment will serve as a standard model for military force building and operation execution system for separated theater operations such as the NWI.
