  • Given the central role of sense of control in physical and emotional well-being, the present study examined the determinants of sense of control among Korean elders. We considered sociodemographic characteristics (age, gender, marital status, education, and self-perceived economic status), health-related factors (chronic conditions, functional disability, and sensory impairment), stressful life events, and network-related resources (network of relatives, network of friends, and filial satisfaction) as potential predictors. Sense of control was measured with Pearlin and Schooler's (1978) Mastery Scale. Hierarchical regression analyses with 291 Korean elders aged 60 or older (M age = 69.9) identified lower self-perceived economic status, more chronic conditions, greater functional disability, greater vision impairment, more stressful life events, and lower filial satisfaction as significant risk factors for a diminished sense of control. Because most of the identified risks represent normative experiences during later life, the results underscored the importance of preserving or promoting sense of control for older adults. Implications of the findings and recommendations for future studies are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the caregiving reward of grandmothers raising their infant grandchildren and to examine factors influencing rewards in double-earner households. Data were collected from 323 grandmothers raising infant grandchildren who are under 6 years of age in double-earner households in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and six metropolitan cities. According to the hierarchy multiple regression analysis, grandmothers' caregiving reward was found to be significantly high. It was also appeared that main factors of the rewards of grandmother were grandparents meaning, relationship with adult children and economic level. This study implies that improving grandparents meaning, relationship with adult children, and economic support may be a strategy to enhance the reward of grandmothers raising infant grandchildren. These findings suggest that there is a need to provide intervention and welfare policy for elderly caregiver.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate both poverty and depression among older adults, focusing on the relationship of these two trajectories. For expanding the understanding about elderly poverty and depression, the study measured the longitudinal patterns of various transition in these two variables. The data for the study is 1st to 9th waves (2006-2014) of Korea Welfare Panel Study (KoWePS), and 4,431 older adults were used for the final analysis. For data analysis, Semi-parametric group-based modeling and Dual trajectory model were selected. The main results of this study were followings; First, The trajectory groups were identified: non-poverty, decrease poverty, increase poverty, remain high-poverty, chronic poverty groups and 4 trajectories of depression: stable, remain low-depression, risk of depression, chronic depression groups. Second, the study was tried to anticipate the longitudinal transition of poverty and depression status, and investigate the concurrent relationship in these two variables. It turned out that the stable poverty status led the stable depression, and vice versa. Based on these result, this study for elderly welfare were discussed to reduce risk for poverty and depression.

  • Corruption in China became increasingly serious during the early period of its social transition, resulting in severe economic losses and huge challenges to China's government institution, as well as gradually becoming socially widespread. Recently. China's political corruption is an outcome of the attenuated political control, which has been caused by a systemic change from planned economy to market economy since 1978, and the lack of institutionalization to relieve such transition. Besides, the immature market system and state's intervention in the economy are other factors for the corruption. In short, current China's corruption can be regarded as a structuralized phenomenon. This article identified such circumstance by analyzing the scope, degree, and scale of the corruption. Overall assessment of the some factors suggests that present economic modernization is a principal cause for Chinese corruption while the other factors-monopoly power system in the Chinese Communist Party and the transformation of connection-are important but secondary.

  • Software testing is the process of analyzing a software item to detect the differences between existing and required conditions and to evaluate the features of the software item. A traditional testing focuses on proper functionality, not security testing. Fuzzing is a one of many software testing techniques and security testing. Fuzzing methodology has advantage that low-cost, efficiency and so on. But fuzzing has defects such as intervening experts. Also, if there is no specification, fuzzing is impossible. ROAD Tool is automated testing tool for RPC(Remote Procedure Call) based protocol and software without specification. Existing tools are semi-automated. Therefore we must modify these tools. In this paper, we design and implement ROAD tool. Also we verify utility in testing results.

To do this, data from two points of the 4th wave (year of 2013) and the 6th wave (year of 2015) of the first-year middle school panel survey (KCYPS) were used and structural equation model analysis was conducted on 1,668 adolescents. As for results, frist, in terms of individual factors, gender, physical health status, and self-resilience significantly affected depression in adolescents. Second, among school factors, learning activities and peer relationship significantly affected depression in adolescents. Third, somatic symptom and depression had effects and auto-regressive effects over time. Based on these results, the prevention and intervention measures for somatic symptom and depression of adolescents were discussed. Future study is needed include varaiables of parental mental health that affect depression in adolescents.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the influence of problem gambling on suicidal ideation and suicidal attempts of school adolescents and out-of-school adolescents. Data were obtained from the 2018 Survey on Youth Gambling Problems and analyzed using logistic regressions. The results of this study were as follows: First, Out-of-school adolescents have more problems with the problem gambling severity, experience a decline in academic performance due to gambling, experience of borrowing money from acquaintances of lenders, suicidal ideation and suicidal attempts than school adolescents. Second, regardless of whether they attended school, experience of borrowing money from lenders was identified as significant variable of suicidal ideation and attempt. Third, problem gambling severity, experience of borrowing money from acquaintances of lenders and a decline in academic performance appeared to influence suicidal ideation and suicidal attempts of school adolescents. Based on this results, we suggested the method to decrease suicide due to problem gambling.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic has led to distance learning in primary and secondary school. Little has been known whether home ICTs environment is appropriate for the distance learning. This paper aims to assess the current state of ICTs environment at home for the distance learning of children. Using 2012 and 2019 Korean Media Panel Survey, we investigated the number of smart devices owned by households and found differences in ownership by household characteristics. The results showed that the majority of household owned more than one smart devices per child. However, the difference in the proportion of households with less than one device per child varied depending on whether smartphone was included in smart devices. These results imply that public intervention is needed to prevent educational inequality caused by the home ICTs environment for the distance learning.

  • This study aimed to identify the mediating effect of social support on the relationship between social isolation and depression in nurses. This study was conducted with 135 registered nurses in three COVID-19 specialized hospitals. Data were analyzed with IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0 and using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and mediation analysis. The mediating effect was analyzed using PROCESS macro for SPSS 4.0 program with bootstrapping method. Social isolation directly influenced social support (𝛽=-.62, p<.001) and depression (𝛽=.49, p<.001). Social support directly influenced depression (𝛽=-.19, p=.028). Social support has a mediating effect between social isolation and depression (indirect effect=.12, 95% CI=0.02~0.29). To managed depression, intervention are needed to reduce social isolation. Therefore, it is necessary to develop strategies that enhance social support to relieve depression in nurses perceived social isolation.
