  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to develop a feasible form of a Korean version of advance directives (K-AD). Methods: Sixteen adults participated in this study: 10 aged 20~50 years and nine aged 65 years or older. Using a draft version of the K-AD, cognitive interview was conducted on the participants to establish a culturally acceptable form of advance directives whose directions can be understood and responded accordingly by the general population. Results: Cognitive interviews revealed areas of concerns for the draft version of K-AD: lack of instructions or clarity for technical and medical terms, context complexity and inadequate response categories. The draft version was revised by rewording, offering examples and rearranging the context. Editorial style was added with appropriate uses of bold fonts, bullet-points and underlines to facilitate interviewees' cognitive responses. Conclusion: Study results feasibility of the revised version of the K-AD. Further study should be performed with a larger number of participants to develop a K-AD with an acceptable level of reliability and validity.

  • This study examined the meaning of the experiences of university students majoring in occupational therapy, where their practice was discontinued due to COVID-19, and to provide basic data for future measures. This study was a phenomenological study. The subjects of this study were seven students. Interviews were analyzed according to Colaizzi data analysis. As a result of an interview, it was organized into 17 themes, six themes clusters, and two categories. The themes clusters were indifference, problem recognition, wandering, coping, aftermath, and anticipation for coping. The students experienced a confused and frustrating situation after recognizing the problem of COVID-19 and experienced anxiety and regret as they experienced the interruption of their fieldwork. The students expected all universities to implement a batch and quick response at the same time. In the future, a systematic communication and delivery system is needed to quickly prepare and implement countermeasures at the same time as institutions, associations, and universities.

The participants were 10 college nursing students (junior and senior years) enrolled in a university in K city. Data were collected through in-depth interviews from May 1 to June 30, 2020. The phenomenological methodology proposed by Colaizzi was applied for data analysis. We identified a total of 6 theme clusters: increased fear of an infection, feeling isolated due to the changed way of life, feeling perplexed about unexpected circumstances, inability to adapt to the sudden change in classroom instruction, feeling burdened about clinical practice, and confronting the reality as a preliminary nurse. The analyzed data revealed that subjects had numerous experiences about COVID-19. We believe there were necessity and significance to conduct this study during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This analysis can serve as a useful resource for discussing issues related to nursing education in the post COVID-19 era.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate information sources and types of reasoning that non-astronomy major undergraduate students used to build their mental models on the mechanism of the Moon craters formation. In-depth interview was used to collect qualitative data, and the questions for the interview were developed through an analytical induction method. We interviewed four students individually by using Seidman's interview step. The findings revealed that the participants built nonscientific mental models, and yet they held a consistent explanatory framework. The students explained that the crater was made by the fall of a meteorite. They all suggested a similar shape of meteorite even though their drawings about the shape of craters and its related to variables were different from one another. The information sources that the participants used fur their explanatory frameworks were varied, i.e., daily experiences, subject knowledges, and intuition. In addition, they used causal reasoning, intuitional reasoning, knowledge based reasoning, and analogical reasoning.
