An Exploratory Study of Privacy Issues and Concerns in the Digital Convergence Environment (디지털 컨버전스 환경에서의 프라이버시 이슈와 프라이버시 침해 우려)

  • Collection and use of personal information have enabled firms to improve their value propositions by offering personalization. On the other hand, they have caused widespread concerns by consumers that their privacy is invaded. Because previously distributed personal information can be integrated and utilized to offer more personalized services, those concerns may be intensified with the progress of the digital convergence environment. In this study, factors for privacy invasion and their impact on the privacy concerns are suggested. Then, an empirical study is conducted to examine some of the suggestions. From the analysis, several results are derived. First, as more personal data are collected, secrecy and autonomy concerns increase exponentially rather than steadily. Second, as targeting accuracy is improved, greater secrecy and autonomy concerns are expressed by consumers, but less seclusion concerns. Finally, monetary reward such as coupons can reduce seclusion concerns when targeting accuracy is high. Based on the results, implications for managing consumer privacy concerns are provided under digital convergence environment.

  • This study investigated the effects of negative emotions like Personal Information Concern and Ad Irritation, arising from the growth of Personalized Advertising, on Purchase Intention. It revealed that while Personal Information Concern significantly impacts Ad Irritation and Brand Avoidance, it doesn't affect Ad Avoidance. Ad Irritation influences Ad Avoidance but not Brand Avoidance or Purchase Intention. Both Ad Avoidance and Brand Avoidance negatively impact Purchase Intention. The study also found that Ad Irritation mediates the relationship between Personal Information Concern and Ad Avoidance, but not between Personal Information Concern and Brand Avoidance. Furthermore, Ad Avoidance mediates between Ad Irritation and Purchase Intention, unlike Brand Avoidance. These outcomes highlight the need for further research, particularly considering the MZ Generation's traits.

  • 정보기술(IT) 산업의 발달은 인터넷 활용을 급속도로 증가시켰으며, 인터넷 사용자의 수가 기하급수적으로 늘어감에 따라 인터넷을 상업적으로 활용하려는 욕구 또한 커져 가고 있다. 아울러 인터넷 관련 정보 기술의 발전속도가 매우 빠르게 발전되고 있다. 그러나 그 이면에는 개인정보의 무단유출, 사생활 노출 등의 역기능도 급격히 증가하고 있다. 이로 인해 오늘날 정보 유출로 인한 개인적 피해는 사회 문제로 대두되고 있으며, 개인의 프라이버시 침해에 대한 우려는 인터넷과 전자상거래 발달에 가장 큰 장애중의 하나로 대두되게 되었다. 온라인에서 비즈니스를 행하는 기업들은 이러한 사용자들의 프라이버시 침해에 대한 우려를 줄이고자 하는 다양한 노력들을 행하고 있다. 우선 프라이버시 보호에 관한 정책이나 규약을 홈페이지에 명시함으로써 사용자들을 안심시키려 하고 있으며, 동시에 금전적 인센티브나 편의를 제공함으로써 사용자들의 참여를 증가시키고 자신들의 비즈니스를 활성화시키고자 한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 기업의 어떠한 전략들이 사용자의 프라이버시 침해 우려를 낮추고 사용자들의 참여를 활성화시키는지를 동기부여의 기대이론에 근거하여 분석하고자 한다. 아울러 기업뿐만 아니라 사회적으로도 도움이 될 수 있는 프라이버시에 관한 전략들을 제안하고자 한다.

  • Sophisticated business intelligent software and personalized web services help collecting and mining huge amounts of personal information. This increase in digitalized personal information and advances in Internet technologies poses new challenges to consumers' information privacy. Based on the identified concept of information privacy concerns (IPC), this study additionally explores the interrelationships among consumers' individual characteristics(self-efficacy, digital literacy, customer alienation), customer satisfaction and intention to buy in e-commerce process. Academically, this study extends IPC to an empirical research model by identifying the conceptualization and organization of IPC. Moreover, practically, e-commerce providers can develop how to relieve IPC of online consumers.

  • This study investigates the impact of privacy concerns, perceived utility, and awareness of the right to personal data self-determination on the effective use and expansion of MyData services, which are critical to the data economy. Integrating the value-based adoption model with privacy calculus theory, the research examines how perceived utility, privacy concerns, trust, and personal innovativeness influence perceived value, perceived privacy, and the intention to provide personal information. Data collected from an online survey of 442 MyData service users and prospective users were analyzed using PLS-SEM and Bootstrapping methods via SmartPLS 4. The results indicate that perceived utility positively affects the intention to provide personal information, while privacy concerns have a negative impact. Trust and personal innovativeness positively influence the intention to adopt MyData services, and the awareness of personal data self-determination rights moderates these intentions. The findings underscore the importance of developing beneficial services that mitigate users' privacy concerns and build trust for the successful implementation of MyData services. Additionally, the study highlights the need for education and awareness campaigns to enhance understanding of the right to personal data self-determination.

The Effect of Individual Risk Appraisal and Ability to Control on Information Privacy Concerns in Online Social Network (온라인 소셜네트워크에서 개인의 위험성평가와 자기통제력이 정보보안우려감에 미치는 영향)

  • Recently, online social networks have become one of the most representative Internet services and are being used increasingly, which allows people to share information and interact with other people. On the other hand, as the use of OSN is increased, there has been an increased incidence where illegally accessed personal information is used wrongfully. Accordingly, privacy has become a key concern by the users. Regarding the construct of information privacy concerns (IPC), this study explored the antecedents of IPC at the individual personal level - risk appraisal and perceived behavioral control - based on Protection Motivation Theory. Hence, the current paper investigated the moderating effect of gender in the relationship between individual characteristics and IPC. The hypothesized research model was examined with 233 questionnaires of OSN users. The results showed that the positive effects of risk appraisal and the negative effects of perceived behavioral control on IPC are supported. In addition, the moderate effects of gender between risk appraisal and IPC is only supported.

  • 현대 사회는 정보화에 따른 혜택과 더불어 부작용 현상으로 개인정보의 유출 사고로 사회적 불안감 및 관심을 증가시키고 있다. 우리나라 "개인정보보호법"은 공공, 민간 부문의 모든 개인정보 처리자에게 공통으로 적용되고 전자문서와 수기문서에도 적용된다. 그러나 업무특성에 따라 여러 곳에 다양한 형태로 산재되어 있는 개인정보 관리는 쉽지 않으며 정보 유출에 대한 우려 또한 크다고 볼 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 체계적인 개인정보 보호 관리를 통해 사전에 정보 유출을 방지할 수 있는 개인정보 유출방지 프레임워크를 제안하였다.

Protection of Personal Information on Cloud Service Models (클라우드 서비스 유형별 개인정보보호 방안)

  • As cloud computing services become popular, the concern on the data security of cloud services increases and the efforts for the data security become essential. In this paper, we describe the pros and cons of cloud computing including the definition of cloud. Then, we discuss the regulations about the protection of user data defined in cloud promotion act. Previous studies related to the privacy protection and the entrustment of personal information in cloud computing are reviewed. We examine how to store the personal information depending on the cloud service model. As a result, we argue that the entrustment of personal information should vary according to the cloud service model and we propose how to protect the personal information on IaaS and SaaS cloud service models.
