Effects of Miling System on Gouda Cheese Characteristics made from Farmstead Milk-processing Plant (착유방식이 목장형 유가공으로 제조된 고다치즈의 품질 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This investigation was carried out to study effects of different milking systems on the characteristics of Gouda cheese produced at farmstead milk-processing plants. In the first study, raw milk was collected from automatic milking system and conventional milking system farms, and Gouda cheeses were prepared under the same conditions. After 6 months of aging, the chemical composition was analyzed and free fatty acid (FFA) analysis and sensory evaluation were carried out on the products. In the second study, Gouda cheese samples were collected from seven farmstead milk-processing plants and the chemical composition and texture profile analysis were evaluated. No significant differences were found in the chemical composition of Gouda cheese according to different milking systems or different farms except crude ash. FFA analysis showed significant differences among farms, but sensory evaluation showed no significant differences. No significant differences were observed in FFA content and sensory assessment of different milking systems. Texture profile analysis revealed that there were significant differences in each cheese made at different farm plants, but there were no differences when different milking systems were used.

  • Display in commercial space is one of the most important fields in modem advanced industrial sectors as means of promoting the volume of sales. Additionally, consummers' preferences are more complicated and various than before because of improvement of quality of life. In order to satisfy the various comsumer's desire, the role of display must be an important factor in commercial space. On the other hand, the facade of commercial buildings in the concept of visual merchandising has important effect on the commercial space such as layout of a shop, setting up presentation space, and visual expression. The structure of the facade of the store provides not only an advertising function but also an important position to the composition of external space. Besides, enterance space is a part of a store, and it is closely related to outdoor space. Therefore, the relationship between a store and outdoor space should be carefully considered in terms of functional and expressional problems.This study introduces all sort of characteristics of the facade of enterance speac in the commercial buildings. It also investigates the relationship among the characteristics. Moreover, it analyzes the effect of facade style on shop environment such as zonning, inducement plan, and allocation plan. For the purpose of this study, 57 fashion stores, located in Myung-Dong(Seoul), are investigated. Based on the sample, this study analyzes the relationship between the facade style and visual presentation. Finally, it suggests the desirable direction of space composition based upon the concept of visual merchandising.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the motivation of using and choosing factors in credit cards. These results indicate that considerate of other people factor may emphasize the convenience and safety in using credit cards, while the leisure factor may prefer the real-worth factor as they know that the more they use, the more benefits they would get. As the personality factor and the fashion factor, we can pay much attention to the advertisements, promotions, card designs, the colors, the characters and the social positions of the card holders and that considerate other people factor may like the low annual fees and the accumulating points, buying items on the installments without paying additional interest, which had offered them cash service and card loan. The authors of this paper has suggested an information by which credit card companies can establish the strategies according to the lifestyle of the elderly in silver business market.

  • This study discusses the aspects of Korean-American Sjjo writers' consciousness of sijo and its significance, focusing primarily on the Sijo-Anthologies of Korean-American authors, "The Moon of the Desert" (1989), "The Dandelion of the Desert" (1994), and The Stars of the Desert" (1996) published by the Sijo Society of America. For this purpose, I thoroughly examined "Notes of Writing Sijo' attached to the authors' works and some other sijos added at the end of the paper. They started writing sijos quite early. Sijo has been recognized as a typical traditional genre of literature, and even foreigners came to write them in English. The following is the summary of the view on sijo propounded by Korean-American authors. Firstly, they follow traditional view on the theory of sijo in terms of its nature and utility, and at the same time they emphasize the utility of katharsis through self expressions. Secondly, their recognition of the value of sijo boils down to its formal patterns. Lastly, they develop the idea of national literature through their significance of writing sijos. They think that they can contribute to the development of national literature as well as the expression of patriotism through writing sijos. Therefore, they recognize themselves as spreaders of Korean culture to the local residents, and as the main stream enhancing the status of Korean culture through the competition with other nations.

Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of extracts from Allium hookeri root (삼채(Allium hookeri) 뿌리 추출물의 항산화 및 항염증 특성)

  • In this study, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of water, methanol, and ethanol extracts obtained from Allium hookeri root were evaluated. The ethanol extract of A. hookeri was found to possess the strongest reducing power and also exhibited dominant effects on scavenging of nitrites, DPPH radicals, and superoxide radicals. The water extract showed more efficient DPPH and hydroxyl radical-scavenging activities than those of the methanol extract. Furthermore, the inhibitory activity against nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW 264.7 macrophages was evaluated to elucidate the anti-inflammatory properties of the extracts. Results indicated that all the extracts of A. hookeri exerted inhibitory activities against NO production, especially the ethanol extract ($IC_{50}29.13{\mu}g/mL$). Total phenolic and total flavonoid contents were found to be abundant in the ethanol extract, with values of 24.96 mg gallic acid equivalent/g extract and 4.27 mg rutin equivalent/g extract, respectively. Total thiosulfinate content was determined for the first time and a high amount was present in the ethanol extract ($14.2{\mu}M/g$ extract). These results suggest that A. hookeri root has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and could be used as a natural source for the development of pharmaceutical agents or functional foods.

  • This study compares the visual elements of the top five global beer brands currently in the Chinese market with those of the top five Chinese beer brands. The purpose of the research is to identify the importance of visual elements in the label design of beer package and to present the direction of efficient label design. To this end, it is a brand among visual elements of beer label design, and it investigates the label design of Chinese beer and global beer brand through the multi-accelerated comparative analysis method, focusing on color, illustration and layout, and analyzes the difference of elements appearing in the global beer label design from China by utilizing the recursive five-point scale. According to the research, the visual elements used in the Chinese beer brand were more complex compared to the global beer brand, and most layouts were similar, making the product less differentiated. On the other hand, the global beer brand has secured brand identity and differentiation based on its iconic visual elements and diversity of layout. In order to establish itself as a strong brand in consumers' minds, the Chinese beer brand needs differentiated label design through active use of unique brand design.

A study on the Image Change Effect by Wearing Color Lens of Female University Students (여대생의 미용 컬러렌즈 착용에 따른 이미지 변화효과에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to look into the effect of wearing color lenses on one's image and was based on 221 college students in Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do. I examined how it appears as the evaluation factor visually. After by looking in the different image effect and relevance as to the classified evaluating factors, I tried to look into what effect the color lenses has on woman eye and image. The result is as follows. It appears that wearing color lenses makes one look fancier, more attractive, sophisticated, and favorable, whereas not wearing color lenses makes one look softer, weaker, more innocent, and comfortable. Analyzing these evaluations showed that wearing color lenses has most to do with attractiveness followed by pureness, familiarity, and decorativeness in order, whereas not wearing color lenses has most to do with familiarity followed by attractiveness, pureness, and decorativeness. It is considered that eyes with color lenses on them make the person seem decorative, attractive, and pure, which brings effect of improving one's eye and face image. Analyzing the correlation between each color lenses-wearing factor and one's image showed that when a person is wearing color lenses, the more the person is considered decorative, pure, and attractive, the more it has to do with improving the person's eye and face image. The result, therefore, shows that wearing color lenses makes one's eye and face image attractive, pure, and decorative, and wearing them is an important means to improve one's eye and face image.

A Study on the Students' Life and Educational Experiences at Chungbuk National University (충북대학교 학생들의 학생생활·교육경험 실태분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore and propose policy alternatives by examining students' educational experiences at Chungbuk National University (CBNU). Some of the outstanding research findings of the study as follows. Students at CBNU think that they are capable of team-working and utilizing internet while less so with foreign language skill. With regard to academic achievement, students responded that they have seen a relatively low outcome in foreign language competency. In terms of their job placement, CBNU students highly recognize their logical thinking skill, creativity, and activity, whereas lower satisfaction with social service, study abroad, and internship experience. For further development of the survey analysis, this study suggests additional items included to make a sophisticated analysis possible such as scholarship, part-time job, educational outcome. This is expected to allow researchers to tab into the effect of finance of CBNU students. More detailed information on students' characteristics also need to be added; collaborative learning, student faculty interaction, co-work with students from diverse background, etc., which would allow the analysis of the impact of extra-curricula activities.

  • The aim of this study is to contribute to the idea of creative design by presenting nail art designs in which neo pop art converges with nail art techniques. For this purpose, this study analysed the artistic worlds of Jean Michel Basquiat and Takashi Murakami as representative artists of neo pop art and used examples of their art as motivation based on Internet data and relevant books. Also this study analysed the concept and expressive techniques used in nail art, and for the nail art techniques of: hand painting, see-through, etching, nail patches, 3D, and airbrushing in order to create six nail art designs using artistic works by three artists as motivation. Based on this, this study presented creative and unique nail designs with artistic works by neo pop artists as motivation. It is hoped that this study will contribute to further use of characteristic and diverse nail designs and is helpful in promoting the capability of nail artists and activate the nail art scene. It is expected that research on nail art design will be expanded and developed through convergence with diverse design areas in the future.

Progress and Prospect of Research on North Korea in Korean Human Geography (한국 인문지리학 분야에서 북한 연구의 동향과 과제)

  • This study is to review research issues on North Korea and unified territory in terms of topics and approach method in Korean human geography. The conclusion of this paper is as follows. Before 1980's, topics on political geography, such as geopolitics or unified land, were the main stream in research. In 1990's with the end of the cold war and the access to material which was published in North Korea, scope of research was widened especially in geography education. After 2000's with the expansion of cooperation between South and North Korea, the scope of topics were more expanded in all field of human geography, for example, critical geopolitic in political geography, Gaeseong Industrial Complex, Najin-Seonbong region in economic geography, place names, Geumgangsan, North Korean defectors in social and cultural geography. The approach method of toward North Korea is fall into two categories. One is regional geography and the other is the unified land. In the latter approach, topics on the regional structure after reunification or on the life adaptation of defectors in South Korea etc. were studied. After unification of land, new Korean Studiea will be established and human geographers should make ready for this. Before unification, research on the land in north Korea should be proceeded in terms of historical geography.
