The Effects of Infection Prevention Education Program on Infection Prevention Knowledge and Attitude to Nursing Caregiver Students (감염예방 교육프로그램이 요양보호사 교육생의 감염예방지식 및 태도에 미치는 효과)

  • It is really important that trained professional care givers service pursuer for long tenn care insurance in Korea. This study was done to evaluate the infection prevention knowledge and attitude on nursing caregiver students with one group pre test-post test to compare on the education program. The data was collected by standardized self-administered questionnaire with a total of 128 nursing caregiver students in G city. The data was analyzed using the SPSS WIN 10.0 program such as t-test. The knowledge of infection prevention was significantly increased on pre-education and post-education of Infection Prevention Education Program. It is necessary for continuous education to maintain quality of nursing and improve the knowledge of infection prevention and program development on nursing caregiver.

The Effect of Infection Control Education Program on Infection Control Knowledge and Infection Control Performance of Visiting Nursing Nursing Assistant Trainees (감염예방 교육프로그램이 방문간호 간호조무사 교육생의 감염관리 지식과 감염관리 수행도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an infection control education program for visiting nursing assistant trainees and to verify its effectiveness. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from 56 visiting nursing assistant trainees, and data were analyzed by applying frequency analysis, mean and standard deviation and t-test with the SPSS WIN 21.0 program. After applying the infection control program, the knowledge and performance of the subjects before and after education increased statistically significantly. In this way, it is necessary to continuously develop infection control education and programs to improve the level of infection control knowledge and performance of visiting nursing assistants.

A scoping review on education on donning and doffing personal protective equipment to prevent healthcare-associated infections in Korea (국내 의료관련감염 예방을 위한 개인보호구 착·탈의 교육에 대한 주제범위 문헌고찰)

  • The purpose of this study is to supply evidences through scoping review of educational intervention studies for donning and doffing PPE to prevent healthcare-associated infection provided to nurses and student nurses in Korea. Through the search engines RISS, KISS, and DBpia, 12 articles were chosen by searching through theses and journals which were published before May 1, 2024. According to the study result, relevant studies were 12, and the education programs provided to donning and doffing PPE to prevent healthcare-associated infection were classified into 1) simulation based education, 2) video and practice based education, and 3) non-contact education. Knowledge, performance confidence, self-efficacy, performance, attitude, and awareness were confirmed as effects of the intervention. Based on the results of this study, there is necessity to develop more diverse teaching and learning methods and evaluation methods for donning and doffing PPE that can prevent healthcare-associated infection in infectious disease and emerging infectious disease situations, and repeatedly conduct research on educational intervention for donning and doffing PPE.

Educational Needs and Self-efficacy for Prevention of Infectious Diseases of Day Care Center Administrators (어린이집 원장의 감염병 예방 교육요구도 및 자기효능감)

  • The aim of this study is to explore the day care center administrators' educational needs and self-efficacy in prevention of infectious diseases and identify the factors affecting the self-efficacy in preventing infectious disease. The participants were 172 day care center administrators in G, J, S City, data was collected using self report questionnaires. The data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Multiple regression analysis using SPSS 24.0. Educational needs of infectious disease 'When and how to hand wash', 'Method to clean and disinfect' were high and self-efficacy in prevention of infectious diseases on hand washing education and time were high. And there was a positive correlation between educational needs and self-efficacy in prevention of infectious diseases (r=.528, p<.001). The factors affecting self-efficacy in prevention of infectious diseases were the educational needs for the prevention of infection (β=.53, p<.001) and experience in infection prevention education (β=.25, p<.001). This study showed that it is necessary to develop and apply programs that can meet the Educational need of infectious disease for day care center administrators. Through such education, the self-efficacy in prevention of infectious diseases of participants can be improved.

Awareness and Performance of Physical Therapists on Nosocomial Infection (물리치료사의 병원감염에 대한 인식과 실천)

  • The aim of this study was conducted to investigate the level of awareness and performance of the physical therapists on nosocomial infection and evaluate potential factors as associated with awareness and performance in order to provide fundamental data for the development of program and policy on the prevention of it. The data were collected from 405 physical therapists. The research instrument was self-administered standardized questionnaire including general characteristics, education status, necessity of the education on nosocomial infection, and awareness and performance for prevention of nosocomial infection. Responses were determined as 5-Likert scales and data were summarized as percentage, mean and standard deviation. Data were analysed using independent t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient(${\alpha}=0.05$). The results of this study show that most physical therapists have not received education on nosocomial infection. For this reason, they have a low level of the awareness and performance on nosocomial infection, but they strongly recognize the necessity of the program and education for the prevention of nosocomial infection. Thus, these program and education are needed in each college as an academic curriculum, as well as in hospitals.

Influence of COVID-19 Knowledge, Risk Perception, Anxiety on Preventive Behaviors of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 코로나19 관련 지식, 감염 위험지각, 불안이 감염예방 행위에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate COVID-19 Knowledge, Risk Perception, Anxiety and Preventive Behaviors, and to identify the influencing factors on Preventive Behaviors of nursing students. Data were collected using questionnaires from 342 nursing students in Gwangju, November 2021. The collected data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression using IBM SPSS 21.0 program. The total mean scores were as follows: COVID-19 Knowledge, 13.25±1.38; Risk Perception; 4.57±1.34, Anxiety; 44.55±9.66, Preventive Behaviors; 7.66±1.55. Preventive Behaviors was found to have significant positive correlations with COVID-19 Knowledge and Risk Perception). The most influential factors influencing the Preventive Behaviors of nursing students were Experience in education related COVID-19 prevention, Risk Perception, COVID-19 Knowledge. In conclusion, in order to develop the Preventive Behaviors of nursing students, it is necessary to apply a program that improve the COVID-19 prevention education and Knowledge, and to control Risk Perception according to the individual level.

  • This study was aimed to investigate the education needs for prevention and control of infectious diseases by lifecycle based on age group and to provide the fundamental data to develop the educational programs. A research was conducted with 328 adults over 19 years old for a month of February 2021 through online and mobile survey by Gallup Korea. Research contents include the general characteristics, personal hygiene practices related to infection, perceived risks related to infection, importance and level of knowledge on infectious diseases, and education needs for prevention and control of infectious diseases. For the research data analysis, PASW Statistics Ver 20.0 was used as a statistical program. Ranks from analysis upon conversion as the formula of Borich needs to sum up with importance and knowledge level showed first (Borich 3.11) with treatments for infectious diseases; second (Borich 2.15) with process in case of suspicion and diagnosis of infectious diseases; third (Borich 1.75) with transmission routes of infectious diseases; fourth (Borich 1.73) with preventive ways of infectious diseases; fifth (Borich 1.50) with diagnostic and test methods of infectious diseases; sixth (Borich 1.45) with characteristics of infectious diseases; and seventh (Borich1.38) with main symptoms of infectious diseases. It is anticipated that development of educational programs applying education needs for prevention and control of infectious diseases in this research can contribute to enhance the physical health, mental health, and psychological well-being of the subjects.

Awareness, Performance, and Preventive Behavior of Latent Tuberculosis Infection management among Nursing students (간호대학생의 잠복결핵 감염관리에 대한 인식도와 수행도, 예방행위)

  • The purpose of this study were to investigate knowledge, awareness, performance, and preventive behavior of latent tuberculosis infection management, and to identify influencing factors on preventive behavior of latent tuberculosis infection management of nursing students. The subjects of this study were completed by 191 nursing students from 2 colleges in D City. Data were collected from August 1 to November 30, 2020. Data were analyzed using the t-test, the ANOVA, the Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis by SPSS ver. 21.0. There were significant positive correlations between preventive behavior of latent tuberculosis infection management and performance(r=.21, p=.003), awareness and performance(r=.88, p<.001). The factors influencing grade and education experience about latent tuberculosis infection management of the study subjects were grade(β=.29, p<.001), final time of education experience about tuberculosis(β=.19, p=.004), and the explanatory power of these variables was 11.9%. The development of preventive behavior of latent tuberculosis infection management education program that focuses grade and final time of education experience about tuberculosis is needed.

Differences in COVID-19 infection prevention attitudes, self-leadership, and infection prevention behaviors according to nursing students' volunteer experience of community infection prevention (간호대학생의 지역사회 감염병 예방 봉사활동 경험에 따른 COVID-19 감염예방 태도, 셀프리더십, 감염병 예방행위 차이)

  • Purpose: This study is a comparative study conducted to examine the differences in attitudes toward COVID-19 prevention, self-leadership, and infection prevention behaviors among nursing students based on their experience in community volunteer related to infection disease prevention. Method: A total of 286 nursing students (146 in the experimental group and 140 in the control group) from 14 regions across the country were conveniently sampled from November 1 to 30, 2021, and the average difference in each variable according to participation in volunteer activities was analyzed using a t-test. Results: The comparison of differences based on participation in volunteer activities showed that the group with volunteer experience had a statistically significantly higher score in all variables: attitudes toward COVID-19 prevention (42.25±5.35 points) compared to those without experience (40.02±6.30 points)(p=.001), self-leadership (72.04±13.18 points) compared to those without experience (66.58±10.85 points)(p<.000), and infectious disease prevention behavior (44.31±7.62 points) compared to those without experience (39.38±7.20 points)(p<.000). Conclusion: This study provides practical and educational implications by suggesting a direction for educating nursing students who will need to provide actual care in future infectious disease outbreaks. These results suggest that nursing students could carry out volunteer service related infection diseases prevention through customized education and promotion programs for different target groups, which could be supported by school budgets, club activities, or incorporated into regular courses. Furthermore, it can be utilized as foundational data for the development of future nursing education programs

A Study on the Practice for Infection Prevention of Dental Clinic Worker (치과의료기관 종사자의 감염예방 실천에 관한 연구)

  • This survey was conducted between January 15, 2014 and February 25, 2014 to investigate the practice for infection prevention among dental hygienists. Data were obtained from 294 dental clinic worker who worked in dental hospital (clinics) of Gwangju and Chonnam. At the conclusion of this investigation, according to the conclusion of this investigation, the necessity of infection control education for dental hygienists and washing their gowns after caring infected patients affected the practice for infection prevention. They also well practiced the infection prevention working in dental hospital. To prevent infection in dental clinic, it is necessary to provide the continuing education programs for dental infection control to dental clinic worker.
