  • This study analyzed the correlation between sensory processing types and stress responses in university students. A survey was conducted on 99 university students in Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheong-do. The survey contents consisted of Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile and Stress Response Inventory. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21.0 for descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. As a result of the study, low-registration and sensory sensitivity were all correlated except for aggression of stress response, and sensory avoiding was all correlated of stress response. Sensory seeking was net related to any domain of stress response. Based on the results of this study, taking into account the correlation between sensory processing types and stress responses, it is recommended for convergence with other treatments to develop self-regulation strategies for coping with stress in university students.

  • This study to investigate the effects of proprioceptive motor program on proprioceptive and balance ability for patients with chronic stroke. Twenty nine subjects were recruited by means of a convenience sampling from Gyeonggi-do B hospital. The subjects were divided into two group: a proprioceptive motor program and general physical therapy(n=15), general physical therapy(n=14). The stimulation and exercises were conducted for 30 min per day, three days, per week for six weeks. All participants were assessed before and after taping training using proprioceptive, berg balance scale(BBS), timed up and go test(TUG), and balance ability was measured using a BioRescue. After training, the change values of the proprioception and balance ability in experimental group were significantly greater than control group(p<0.05). This findings show that progressive and proprioceptive motor program training convergence can be effective for stroke patients proprioception and balance ability. Continued development of convergence interventions for chronic stroke patients with proprioception and balance ability in the practice are suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of sensory-motor centered group occupational therapy program on self-regulation and executive function in first grade elementary school maladjusted children. It is a case study through pre-post design with a total of 3 subjects. A pre-and post-test was conducted to determine the change in Self-Control Rating Scale and to find out the execution function by Bruininks-Oseretasky Test of Motor Proficiency. The sensory-motor centered group occupational therapy program performed movement activities based on vestibular sensation, proprioception, and tactile sensation, and the task was selected by investigating the child's preference for activity. As a result, subjects 1 and 2 children showed improved self-regulation and executive function. Based on the results of this study, it is considered that the group-centered sensory-motor program can be provided to children who show maladjustment in school by linking the educational field and clinical practice.

  • This paper evaluated visual function and stereoacuity function after surgery for intermittent exotropia. Subjects of this study were 18 patients (male: n = 10, female: n = 8) mean aged 12.06±5.43 years diagnosed with intermittent exotropia who underwent strabismus surgery. Of these subjects, 72.2% of the subjects underwent strabismus surgery once and 27.8% had it twice. Visual function and stereoacuity function were tested for these subjects. For data analysis, frequency analysis, cross analysis, and correlation analysis were used, and statistical significance was set at p<.05. Regarding the deviation state after strabismus surgery, exodeviation accounted for the most(72.2%), followed by diplopia(50.0%) and suppression(33.3%) for distance sensory fusion. Regarding near sensory fusion, fusion(50.0%) accounted for the most, followed by diplopia(44.4%). After strabismus surgery, subjects with distance stereoacuity blindness were the most at 61.1% and there were no subjects with a normal range of 40-60 arcsec. Near stereoacuity blindness subjects accounted for 33.3% and subjects with 40-60 arcsec accounted for 1.1%. Even after surgery for intermittent exotropia, there were some areas that did not improve in deviation state, stereoacuity, or sensory fusion. Therefore, it is necessary to manage and control strabismus through non-surgical methods before and after surgery for intermittent exotropia.

  • The objective of the study was the effects of balance training using sandals on the balancing and proprioception of patients with chronic ankle instability(CAI). A total of 36 patients with CAI were assigned to sandal exercise(SE), balance training(BT), and control groups(CG). The groups were assessed for static balancing and proprioception before and after the intervention. The SE performed using balance sandals, while BT performed balance training. Intervention comprised a 30minute session. 3 times a week for 8 weeks. The SE showed significant effect in static balance, as compared to the other two groups (p<.001), whereas proprioception showed a significant effect on eversion (p<.001). Therefore, balance training using sandals can be a positive intervention method for prevention of falls in elderly as well as chronic ankle instability patients.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the difference between the adaptive and internalizing/externalizing maladaptive behaviors of the sensory processing problemtic group classified from non-disabled preschoolers and to confirms the effects of sensory processing sub-factors on adaptive and maladaptive behaviors. This study participated in 335, 3-6 years typical preschoolers, carried out Short sensory profile, Vineland-II adaptive behavior scales. The study result in the sensory processing showed a significant positive correlation with the adaptive behavior, and a significant negative correlations were found in the internalizing/externalizing maladaptive behaviors. In the t-test, the problemtic group had lower adaptive behavior scores than the typical group. This study confirmed that atypical sensory processing affected not only adaptive behavior, but also internalizing/externalizing maladaptive problems, that sensory processing difficulties were more related to emotional and behavioral issues.

  • Objective : The objective of this study was to determine a discriminat validity of the Sensory Processing Scale-Children (SPS-C) for children with and without Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). Method : The SPS-C was completed by parents of 151 Korean children including 68 typically developing children (control group), 83 children with SPD (known group) in the age range 3-5 years, in South Korea. ANCOVA with sex as covariable was used to identified the difference between the children with typically development and SPD. Results : Sensory processing differences in sensory domains and sensory factors were detected and the gender differences were not effective between typically developing children and children with SPD. Significant differences were found in all sensory domain score and total score except proprioceptive processing in sensory domain. In sensory factors, significant differences were found in overrsensitivity, underresponsivity, and discrimination, but sensory seeking was not significant. SPS-C was a valid assessment tool to identify or screen of SPD in Korea. Conclusion : The psychometric characteristics for the standardization study of SPS-C were presented, and the discriminant validity to screen the children with sensory processing problems was presented as a verified evaluation tool. SPS-C will be helpful in screening, analyzing and interpreting characteristics of sensory processing, and establishing an intervention plan.
