  • This study was conducted to understand the level of compliance and influencing factors to respiratory infection prevention among the college students who experienced the COVID-19 pandemic. An online survey was conducted on 200 college students from December 15, 2023 to January 5, 2024, and the data of 199 people who responded faithfully were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression through SPSS 18.0. According to the result, the compliance level of respiratory infection prevention was 32.95±6.05 points on average out of 48 points. The general characteristics, which showed differences in the compliance level of respiratory infection prevention, and the characteristics related to respiratory infections were identified to be major (t=-2.59, p=.010), education on respiratory infection prevention (t=1.99, p=.048), influenza vaccination of the year (t=-2.10, p=.037), COVID-19 vaccination of the year (t=3.56, p<.001), and mask wearing in crowded places (t=4.96, p<.001). As for the factors influencing the compliance to respiratory infection prevention, major (β=0.31, p<.001), influenza vaccination of the year (β=-0.15, p=.046), and mask wearing in a crowded places (β=-0.31, p<.001) were identified as a significant variable in the multiple regression analysis. In conclusion, since respiratory infections continue to occur even after the termination of COVID-19 epidemic, it is necessary to make efforts to promote compliance to respiratory infection prevention practice, and it is expected that the factors identified in this study can be used as the basic data when developing a respiratory infection prevention program targeting college students.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of telephone intervention on the reduction of depression after the intervention for the elderly living alone during the COVID-19 pandemic. A one-group pretest and posttest design was used to examine changes in depression level following telephone intervention a once a week for 10 weeks. The subjects of this study were older adults aged 65 registered with 3 social welfare institutions in Wonju, and a total of 114 elderly completed a questionnaire before and after the intervention. Telephone intervention was provided by 56 nursing student volunteers, and each student was in charge of 2-3 elderly people. The depression score decreased from 6.59±3.74 before the intervention to 5.01±3.34 after the intervention (t=4.959, p<.001). Study findings suggest that telephone intervention is effective as an emotional support for the elderly living alone during the COVID-19 pandemic. Further research is needed to expand the scope of various subjects and regions, including the elderly not living alone.

  • This study investigated the effects of utilizing 3D printed teaching aids on academic achievement and learning motivation in a non-face-to-face learning environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study was divided into an experimental and a comparison group that applied traditional lecture-based teaching and self-directed learning using 3D printed teaching aids and videos. The results of the study showed that the experimental group using 3D printed brain puzzles improved their academic performance compared to the comparison group using traditional lectures. This may be due to the fact that visual and experiential learning helped students to acquire knowledge on their own. The brain puzzles provided an interesting learning experience for the students, and their overall satisfaction with the class was also positive. These results indicate that teaching with teaching aids can increase students' motivation to learn and improve their academic performance. Therefore, the active introduction of 3D printed teaching aids in the non-face-to-face learning environment caused by COVID-19 is expected to improve the quality of education through innovation in learner-centered teaching methods.

  • This survey study was attempted for two purposes : 1) to grasp Korea National Open University(KNOU) students' changing aspects for their education need through comparison analyses with 1996 data ; 2) to establish foundation of the systematic network formation by investgating students' opinion about network framework. Among randomly assigned 4,500 students, 1,505 KNOU nursing students who allowed to participate in the study completed the questionnaires. The data were collected by mail. For the comparison 1996 data were also used. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and t-test. Results of this study were as follows 1. The admission purposes of the KNOU nursing students were 'in order to get a bachelor's degree (70.7%)', 'to do studying and working simultaneously(43.0%)', or 'to be admitted for the graduate school (41%)' etc. Comparing the admission purposes by age, the investigator found 4 items which are 'small amount of tuition', 'graduate school admission', 'aspiration for the university', 'promotion or commencement of work' showed statistically significant differences. These 4 items were also found to show significant differences by marital status. 2. In relation to the learning media, the study showed most students(74%) got effective informations from the school newspaper(36.5%) or peer group(37.7%). The result showed that few students (0.7%) used the computer for communication. The research indicated that KNOU nursing students have tendency to rely on printed materials more than on broadcasting media. This is almost the same result as that of 1996. 3. The results revealed that 12.4% of the respondents had ever experienced unregistration or temporary withdrawal. The most common reason for the unregistration was 'due to family affairs or their job (71.3%)'. There were no change for this aspects with 1996. 4. As for the professors-students network formation. The result revealed that 38.5% students among respondents had heard of the network formation. 78.7% of respondents, however, positively responed that they would willingly participate in the networking if it is made. Especially the students showed much interest in 'the improvement for the understanding of study' and 'strengthening of the relations between professors and students'.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the MBTI personality type, emotional intelligence, and stress coping strategies of nursing students and to examine the influence of these factors on their level of college adjustment. The subjects were 267 nursing students who are located in Chonnam city. The survey was conducted from March 6th to March 31st, 2017. The level of college adjustment showed a close correlation with the emotional intelligence(r=.29, p<.001) and stress coping strategies(r=.27, p<.001), and the level of MBTI personality type was not statistically insignificant in the nursing students. It was found that the effect of the emotional intelligence and stress coping strategies on the college life adjustment was 17.5%(F=8.03, p<.001). According to the results of this study, it is necessary to develop a systematic management program to integrate the educational curriculum and extra-curricular activities(in order to enhance the) emotional intelligence and stress coping strategies in nursing students. In addition, the type of psychological function and psychological temperament of the MBTI personality type were found not to have influenced the level of college adaptation of the nursing students and this should be confirmedin a large scale sample.

The results are as follows. First, the results of tuberculosis patients in Korea decreased by about 21.3% to 33,796 (65.9%) in 2018 and 26,433 (51.5%) in 2018. Second, the status of tuberculosis patient treatment in Korea was found to be 655 in 2018, an increase of about 160% compared to 2014. Third, the incidence of tuberculosis among adolescents was 1.8% in 2018 for those aged 10 to 14 and 15.0% for those aged 15 to 19, the highest rate of tuberculosis among high school students, Fourth, looking at the incidence of tuberculosis patients by age, subjects in their 60s or older showed a prevalence of tuberculosis by 60% or more, especially elderly tuberculosis patients over 80 years of age. Fifth, the status of the incidence of tuberculosis patients by gender was found to be 1.4 times higher in men than in women in 2018 compared to 2010. Sixth, 1,419 people (75.6%) in Jeollanam-do had the highest prevalence of tuberculosis nationwide, and 99 people (33.4%) in Sejong had the lowest prevalence. Seventh, the number of foreign patients in Korea continued to increase to 1,510 in 2012, increasing to 2,569 in 2016. The results this study indicate the need for rapid and accurate early tuberculosis screening policies and management for tuberculosis relapse patients, high school student, age groups over 60, a group of men such as the military, the elderly over 80, and foreigners.
