The purpose of this study is to find out whether critical thinking education improves critical thinking disposition of nursing college students. The participants were 173 second graders. The education was conducted three times, two hours each, for a total of six hours of intensive critical thinking education and continuous education during Nursing Process class. The survey was conducted in the first week and 14th week of the course. The collected data was analyzed with IBM SPSS 21.0. Findings: The results showed that the average rating of critical thinking before and after education was raised(3.65±0.41→3.83±0.46, t=6.796, p<.001). Among the sub-items, creativity, which had the lowest score before education, has been raised the most(3.13±0.78→3.43±0.86, t = 5.842, p<.001). The effectiveness of critical thinking education has been confirmed. But it is a lack of evidence on the relevance of the details. It is suggested that repeated research is needed to ensure the quality of education, develop teaching methods, and develop tools for verifying effectiveness.

Purpose: This study was performed to identify the level of stress perceived by nurses who attend dying patients in the cancer care unit; their understanding regarding end-of-life care and related training needs. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 151 nurses stationed at the cancer care units of four general hospitals located in Seoul and Gyeonggi province in Korea. Data were collected using self-reported questionnaires and the response rate was 96%. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation analysis. SPSS 12.0 was used for data analysis. Results: Nurses experienced a high level of stress in the end-of-life care settings. Their understanding of end-of-life care was above the mid-point of the scale while their training needs for end-of-life care was relatively high. The more experienced the nurses were, the more stressed they were, particularly due to excessive workload. Nurses who served longer in the cancer unit tended to show greater needs for end-of-life care training. Conclusion: This study found nurses perform end-of-life care with a high level of stress but with insufficient understanding, and thus, showed great needs for related training. Such findings can be useful to develop an end-of-life care training program for nurses.
This study was attempted to suggest future directions for nursing ethics education by analyzing research trends related to ethical conflicts among nurses and the current status of nursing ethics education. In four domestic databases, it was searched as a combination of words 'nurse', 'ethics', 'moral', 'bioethics', 'conflict', 'sensitivity', 'dilemma', 'issue', and 'value'. As a result, 591 papers were confirmed from 2000 to December 2021, of which 111 papers were finally analyzed. The status of nursing ethics education was analyzed for 184 out of 203 schools that operated a four-year bachelor's degree program registered with the Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing Education. As a result of the study, the number of studies related to ethical conflicts among nurses steadily increasing, and quantitative studies on nurses in general hospitals were the most common. The main keywords were identified as moral sensitivity, moral agony, ethical dilemma, and biomedical ethics awareness. Nursing ethics education was operated by 68% of universities as a major subject, and more than half of universities opened it in the first and second grades with one or two credits. As a result of this study, ethical conflicts experienced by nurses are increasing according to social change. Therefore, it is necessary for universities to further expand the proportion of nursing ethics education and to establish an educational model for each grade level for the continuity of the educational effect.

Purpose: This study presents the current status of transcultural nursing education in nursing baccalaureate programs. Methods: The nursing curricula from 185 out of 194 nursing colleges that received accreditation were collected and analyzed. Results: 109 (58.9%) nursing colleges offered 117 transcultural nursing-related courses. The courses were offered as elective (68.4%) as well as major (78.6%) courses. All courses were offered as a theoretical delivery class without any field experiences. The courses were offered mainly for sophomore (41.9%) and freshman students (33.3%), and most of them (79.5%) were two-credit courses. Instead of the term "transcultural nursing," "multicultural nursing" is mostly used in the title of courses. An inconsistency between the title of courses and their content was found. After analyzing the title of courses based on four nursing meta-paradigms, courses related to the environment were most common (41.9%). Conclusion: Transcultural nursing education has developed during the last decade. However, teaching methods and course content have not developed enough. Thus, a greater effort is needed to increase awareness of the importance of transcultural nursing education and to develop courses for it.
