In this study, we investigated the effects of detoxified puffer liver (PL) oil on fatigue, hepatotoxicity and hyperlipidemia. There are no toxicities in both raw and purified PL oil. The test of swimming time was extended in detoxified PL oil pretreated group compared to the non-treated group. When rats treated with PL oil, the hepatic injuries induced by carbon tetrachloride or DL-galactosamine were reduced. The increased serum triglyceride and total cholesterol by poloxamer-407 were lowered by treating with PL oil remarkably. Also the bleeding time of hyperlipidemic animals was extended and plasma clotting time was delayed by PL oil.
Survival and growth rates of flounder larvae fed rotifers and Artemia nauplii enriched by various bio-enrichment techniques were investigated. Enriched materials used in the study were $12\omega-yeast$, 2 commercial emulsified oil and microparticulated products. $\omega-yeast$ were added with one kinds of oils (cuttlefish liver oil, sardine oil, Alaska pollock liver oil, linseed oil) at the level of $5\%,\;15\%\;and\;25\%$. The results are as follows: 1. The growth rate of rotifers cultured with $\omega-yeast$ added $15\%$ cuttlefish liver oil was the best among 12 kinds of $\omega-yeast$ and this performance was almost the same with that of rotifers fed on Chlorella. 2. Survival and growth rates of flounder larvae fed on rotifers and Artemia nauplii enriched with $\omega-yeast$ and the other commercial products were higher than that those of larvae cultured with only Chlorella and non-enriched Artemia. The optimum contents of the cuttlefish liver oil in $\omega-yeast$ for rotifers and Artemia enrichment were $15\%\;and\;25\%$, respectively. 3. Optimum enrichment time and supply amount of $\omega-yeast$ for Artemia nauplii were 6 hr., 1.5 g/g cyst, respectively.

In this paper, we propose an automated method for the ground-glass nodule(GGN) classification using GGN-Net based on intensity, texture, and shape-enhanced images in chest CT images. First, we propose the utilization of image that enhances the intensity, texture, and shape information so that the input image includes the presence and size information of the solid component in GGN. Second, we propose GGN-Net which integrates and trains feature maps obtained from various input images through multiple convolution modules on the internal network. To evaluate the classification accuracy of the proposed method, we used 90 pure GGNs, 38 part-solid GGNs less than 5mm with solid component, and 23 part-solid GGNs larger than 5mm with solid component. To evaluate the effect of input image, various input image set is composed and classification results were compared. The results showed that the proposed method using the composition of intensity, texture and shape-enhanced images showed the best result with 82.75% accuracy.
A simple method has been successfully applied to extract squalene and its byproducts alkoxyglycerol from deep-sea shark liver oil. GC-MS was used to determine the extraction amount of the squalene and alkoxyglycerol, and the content of them in rough product and refined product were compared. The physical property of squalene was identified by measuring the pH value, peroxide value and iodine value. Under optimum extraction conditions, the amount of squalene and alkoxyglycerol increased 35.0% and 21.9%, respectively, while the amount of fatty acid decreased from 61% to 4%, especially, the amount of palmitic acid and oleic acid remarkably decreased. Large amount of peroxide and acid were removed from shark liver oil after refining process. Because squalene contains lots of double bond, so the value of iodine is much higher than squalane.
This study was performed to investigate the development of smoked chicken using old laying hens. Seventy two-weeks-old, spent laying hens were fed commercial feed (control) supplemented with 100 IU ${\alpha}$-tocopherol plus 10% squid liver oil (treatment) for 15 days and slaughtered. Smoked chickens were manufactured with spent laying hens in this study, Moisture and crude ash contents in smoked chicken of treatments were higher (P<0.05) than those of control group due to the feeding 100 IU ${\alpha}$-tocopherol plus 10% squid liver oil. No differences were observed in fatty acid and amino acid composition between control and treatments. In sensory evaluation, the springiness of smoked chicken was evaluated optimum for 32% consumer. The elastic, blend, specific flavor and smell of the smoked chicken of the treatment were not different from those of the control. However, 46% of tested panel answered that the springiness was higher in the treated-group due to the feeding 100 IU ${\alpha}$-tocopherol plus 10% squid liver oil. These results indicated that smoked chickens would be developed with spent laying hen after feeding 100 IU ${\alpha}$-tocopherol plus 10% squid liver oil and sensory evaluation.
This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of forest management practices on pH and electrical conductivity to get fundamental information on water purification capacity after forest operation. Rainfall, throughfall and stemflow were sampled at the study sites which consist of Abies holophylla and Pinus koraiensis in Gwangreung Experimental Forest for S months from May to November 1999. Mean pH of the throughfall of the beginning of the event was higher in management (thinning and pruning) sites of Abies holophylla and Pinus koraiensis stands than nonmanagement site of Abies holophylla and Pinus koraiensis stands. In addition, pH of the throughfall of the total amount of the event showed similar trends which are higher pH in the management sites compared with the non- management sites. This result indicates that managements such as thinning and pruning improve tree butler capacity of rainfall pH. According to the linear regression results, pH of the throughfall of the total amount of the event in non-management sites = 0.735${\times}$pH of the throughfall of the beginning of the event in non-management sites+1.849 ($R^2\;=\;0.82$) and pH of the throughfall of the total amount of the event in management sites= 0.863${\times}$pH of the throughfall of the beginning of the event in management sites +1.0242 ($R^2\;=\;0.87$). In case of stemflow pH, pH of the sternflow of the total amount of the event in non-management sites = 0.53${\times}$pH of the stemflow of the beginning of the event in non- management sites+2.7709 ($R^2\;=\;0.64$) and pH of the stemflow of the total amount of the event in management sites = 0.5854${\times}$pH of the stemflow of the beginning of the event in management sites+2.7045 ($R^2\;=\;0.65$). Electrical conductivity (EC) of the throughfall of the beginning and total amount of the event was highest in non- management site in Abies holophylla, followed by management sites in fsies Abies holophylla, non-management site in Pinus koraiensis, and management sites in Pinus koraiensis stands, respectively. According to the linear regression results, EC of the throughfall of the total amount of the event in non-managementsites = 0.4045${\times}$EC of the throughfall of the beginning of the event in non-management sites+26.766 ($R^2\;=\;0.69$) and EC of the throughfall of the total amount of the event in management sites = 0.6002${\times}$EC of the throughfall of the beginning of the event in management sites+8.0184 ($R^2\;=\;0.54$). In case of stemflow EC, EC of thestemflow of the total amount of the event in non-management sites = 0.6298${\times}$EC of the stemflow of the beginning of the event in non-management sites+11.582 ($R^2\;=\;0.72$) and pH of the stemflow of the total amount of the event in management sites =0.602${\times}$pH of the stemflow of the beginning of the event in management sites+20.783($R^2\;=\;0.49$).
The objective of this study was to estimate throughfall, stemflow, interception loss and net rainfall in relation to rainfall interception, and to understand the factors affecting interception process at Pinus taeda stand and Pinus densiflora stand in the Research Forests of Seoul National University, located in Choosan, Kwangyang, Chollanamdo. 1. The gross rainfall during the period of field observation was 3,107.6mm(average 1,035.9mm/year). Most of the daily rainfall intensity was under 30mm, which was 90% in 1992, 81% in 1993 and 88% in 1994. 2. In this study the throughfall, stemflow, interception loss and net rainfall were expressed separately as a function of gross rainfall. The overall throughfall collected during the period of field observation was 2,432.5mm(78.3%) at Pinus taeda stand and 2,699.6mm at Pinus densiflora stand, out of total rainfall of 3107.6mm. The canopy storage capacity, which was determined by the prediction equation between gross rainfall and throughfall was 1.1mm at Pinus taeda stand and 1.3mm at Pinus densiflora stand. 3. The sums of stemflow from measurement of total rainfall at Pinus taeda stand and Pinus densiflora stand was 227.3mm(7.3%) and 62.7mm(2.0%), respectively. The minimum rainfall causing stemflow was estimated as 7.2mm at Pinus taeda stand and 1.9mm at Pinus densiflora stand. 4. Interception loss accounted for 447.8mm(14.4%) at Pinus taeda stand and 345.3mm(11.1%) at Pinus densiflorra stand. 5. Net rainfall was 2,659.8mm(85.6%) at Pinus taeda stand and 2,762.3mm(88.9%) at Pinus densiflora stand. 6. The rates of throughfall and stemflow increased with increasing the gross rainfall. However, the amounts of throughfall and the stemflow were constant above 30mm at Pinus taeda stand and 50mm at Pinus densiflora stand. The rates of interception loss decreased with increasing the gross rainfall. However, the amount of interception loss was constant above 50mm at Pinus taeda stand and Pinus densiflora stand.
