A Study on the Effects of Intake Port Geometry on In-Cylinder Swirl Flow Field in a Small D.I. Diesel Engine (직접분사식 소형 디젤엔진의 실린더내 스월 유동장에 미치는 흡기포트의 형상에 관한 연구)

  • This paper studies the effects of intake port configuration on the swirl that is key parameter in the flow field of direct injection diesel engines. In-cylinder flow characteristics is known to have significant effects on fuel air mixing, combustion and emissions. To investigate the swirl flow generated by various intake ports, steady state flow tests were conducted to evaluate the swirl. Helical port geometry, SCV shape and bypass were selected as the design parameters to increase the swirl flow and parametric study was performed to choose the optimal port shape that would generate a high swirl ratio efficiently. The results revealed that a key factor in generating a high swirl ratio was to suitably control the direction of the intake air flow passing through the valve seat. For these purposes, we changed the distance of helical and tangential port as well as installed bypass near the valve seat and the effects of intake port geometry on in-cylinder flow field were visualized by a laser sheet visualization method. From the experimental results, we found that the swirl ratio and mass flow rate had a trade off relation. In addition, the result indicates that the bypass is a effective method to increase the swirl ratio without sacrificing mass flow rate.

  • In this paper, we presents a scheme for the parameter estimation and optimal control scheme for apparatus of container crane system. For parameter estimation, first, we construct the open loop of the container crane system and estimate its parameters based on input-output data, a real-coded genetic algorithm(RCGA) and the model adjustment technique. The RCGA plays an important role in parameter estimation as an adaptive mechanism. For controller design, state feedback gain matrix is searched by another RCGA and the estimated model. The performance of the proposed methods are demonstrated through a set of simulation and experiments of the experimental apparatus.

  • A non-isolated Multiple Input Converter (MIC) with an input port, two storage ports and a load port is proposed. The synthesis of the proposed four port converter with its switch realization is presented. A steady state analysis of each operating mode with a small-signal model is derived, and a stability analysis is done. A mode selection controller is proposed to automatically choose a specific operating mode based on the voltage levels of the different source and storage units. In addition, a voltage control loop is used to regulate the output voltage. A 200W prototype is built with a TMS320F28027 DSP controller to test the feasibility of the operating modes. Simulation and experimental results show the ability of the proposed converter to handle multiple inputs either individually or simultaneously.

  • The container crane is one of the most important equipments at container terminal. If its working time in cycle could be reduced then container terminal efficiency and service level can be increased. So there are many i1forts to reduce working time of container cranes. It means how to design the controller with good performance which has small overshoot and swing motion of container crane. We, in this paper, present a state feedback controller based on LQ theory incorporating a RCGA which means real-coded genetic algorithm RCGA can search state feedback gains under given objective function. A set of simulation works are carried out in order to prove the control effectiveness of the proposed methods.

  • Bans on TBT based antifouling paints have been drafted since 1998 by meetings 42, 43, 45 and 46 for the MEPC (Marine Environmental Protection Committee) of the International Marine Organization, and decided finally at a Diplomatic Conference of IMO in October 2001. It was a key issue that there should be a global prohibition on the application of organo-tin compounds as biocides in Anti-fouling systems by Jan. 2003, and a complete prohibition on the presence of organo-tin compounds on ships by 1 Jan. 2008. This paper suggests a method to design International Anti-fouling system cretificate, Record of anti-fouling system, Endorsement of the Records, Declaration on Anti-fouling System, Port State Control and reform(legislative) associated a law.

  • In a gasoline engine, the characteristics of air flow is very important not only for the design of the intake system geometry bout also for the accurate measurement of the induction air mass. In this study, an air flow rate measurement of the induction air mass. In this study, an air flow rate measurement was conducted by using the hot wire flow meter at the upstream of the intake port and the throttle. At the upstream of the throttle, the overshoot phenomena of the air flow rate by fast throttle opening were analyzed with choked flow. At the upstream of the intake port, the cylinder variation of the air flow rate and the difference between fast throttle opening and closing were showed during the unsteady state by the throttle step change. The results of this study can be used for the design of the throttle valve geometry and cylinder by cylinder control.

  • The transportation of oil has increased due to the growth of marine industries and oil refineries. Oil residues and waste discharged to the ocean has increased due to accidental and/or intentional discharges. The International Marine Organization(IMO) has made compulsory that every oil tanker of 150 gross tonnage and above and every ship of 400 gross tonnages other than tankers and above should be provided with an oil record book. The entries in the oil record book should be made in accordance with the IMO guidelines. Specifically, engine room generated oil residues should be recorded in the oil record book from January 1, 2011. Also, the developed IMO guideline should be added for the prevention of dispute with the Port State Control Officers and(or) Tanker Vetting Inspectors. This oil record book will be in operation and of valued assistance to the marine officers, according to the IMO policy for the prevention of the waste oil and the oil mixtures from the machinery space.   • In this paper, we study the posture control of an underwater vehicle with nonholonomic constraint. Generally, systems with nonholnomic constraints cannot be stabilized to an equilibrium points by smooth state feedback control. For the nonholonomic underwater vehicle system, we applied coordinate transformation to get multi-chained system We proposed non smooth feedback controller using backstepping method for stabilizing the multi chained form system Applying inverse input transformation to the non smooth feedback controller, we can get posture controller of the underwater vehicle with nonholonomic constraint. The proposed control scheme is applied to the posture control qf an underwater vehicle and verified the effectiveness of control strategy by numerical simulation.

  • This study deals with the development of a phrase buoy control system that can receive and analyze phrase information using an IoT-based communication network to determine whether a phrase is normal or missing, to manage the current state of the phrase, check the status of the phrase in case of abnormal conditions in the phrase, and conduct management of the phrase. The fishing gear management system and integrated control structure design using an IoT-based communication network were developed, and a system test and verification were carried out to verify the effectiveness of the system.
