  • The purpose of this study was to prepare improved education guideline by grasping parts and items felt difficult to apply instruments by the students of the dental hygiene department in the practice of oral prophylaxis using manikin and analyzing factors influencing the satisfaction at the oral prophylaxis subject. To achieve this purpose, 285 senior students of the dental hygiene department located in the Kwangju. Jeonnam area who took theory and practice courses of oral prophylaxis but only practiced the manikin from the second semester of 1st year were selected as the subjects. The following results were obtained. 1. In the manikin, the most difficult part was maxillary anterior lingual in the use of explorer, sickle scaler, and universal curet, and maxillary right posterior lingual was in the use of gracey curet. In the dentiform, the most difficult item was instrument stroke in the use of explorer, sickle scaler, universal curet and gracey curet. 2. The highest stressor was the lack of knowledge and skill in practice of oral prophylaxis, followed by the lack of confidence, and difference between theory and practice in oral prophylaxis. The overall practice satisfaction was 3.23 at oral prophylaxis. The highest satisfaction was found in patient and operator position(3.51), followed by basic skill(3.34), the way to use hand instrumentation(3.16), and the way to use oral examination instrumentation(3.01). 3. According to school records, satisfaction at oral prophylaxis practice satisfaction was 3.36 of good, 3.24 of fair, and 3.06 of poor, suggesting significant difference(p<0.05). Students who participated just in practice during a school term showed 3.47 of satisfaction. The highest satisfaction was found in a full-time professor as a professor in charge(3.24) and there was significant difference(p<0.05). 4. The highest correlated factor between oral prophylaxis theory and practice satisfaction was curriculum satisfaction. • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to develop an educational program to reduce the use of physical restraints for caregivers in geriatric hospitals and to evaluate the effects of the program on cargivers' knowledge, attitude and nursing practice related to the use of physical restraints. Methods: A quasi experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. Participants were recruited from two geriatric hospitals. Eighteen caregivers were assigned to the experimental group and 20 to the control group. The data were collected prior to the intervention and at 6 weeks after the intervention through the use of self-administered questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, $\chi^2$ test, Fisher's exact probability test, and Mann-Whitney U test were used to analyze the data. Results: After the intervention, knowledge about physical restraints increased significantly in experimental group compared to the control group. However, there were no statistically significant differences between the groups for attitude and nursing practice involving physical restraints. Conclusion: Findings indicate that it is necessary to apply knowledge acquired through educational programs to nursing practice to reduce the use of physical restraints. User friendly guidelines for physical restraints, administrative support of institutions, and multidisciplinary approaches are required to achieve this goal.

  • This study examines the effects of Internet-based English practice on listening and reading. Out of a total of 16 students who took part in pre- and post-tests, 11 who had frequently practiced listening and reading on the Internet showed greater improvement in these skills than the 5 who had practiced less. The findings also suggest that summarization of listening and reading on the Internet was useful as it made students concentrate specifically on the content. This study suggests that English language teachers use a bulletin board to complement the use of Internet sites for listening and reading practice outside of the classroom in an EFL context.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe physical therapists' self-reported: (1) attitudes and beliefs about evidence~based practice(EBP), (2) education, knowledge, and skills related to obtaining and evaluating evidence, (3) attention to the literature relevant to practice, (4) access to and availability of information and (5) perceptions of the barriers to evidence-based practice. Methods: Our study sample consisted of a random sample of 90 physical therapists in gwang-ju and junnam. Participants completed a questionnaire. Responses were summarized for each item, and logistic regression analyses were used to examine relationships among variables. Results: According to the respondents, the primary barrier to implementing EBP was lack of time. The results suggest they believe that the use of evidence in practice was necessary, that the literature is helpful to them in their practice and decision making, and that quality of patient care is better when evidence is used. Many of the beliefs, skills and behaviors we examined were related to the education courses and sex. The majority of the respondents had access to online information at home. Conclusion: They noted that they needed to increase the use of evidence in their daily practice.

  • Purpose : This study aimed to identify the factors influencing physical restraint-related practice among nurses working in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods : The participants consisted of 169 ICU nurses in three general hospitals in B and U cities. Data were collected from December 2021 to January 2022 through a structured self-administered questionnaire. Demographic characteristics, physical restraint-related practice, Person-centered Critical Care Nursing (PCCN), work environment, and attitudes toward physical restraint use were measured. For data analyses, hierarchical multiple regressions were conducted using SPSS/WIN 25.0. Results : Clinical careers in the ICU, better work environments, higher PCCN levels, and more positive attitudes toward physical restraint use were associated with a better practice of physical restraints, which together explained 35.5% of the total variance of the outcome. Conclusion : Our findings suggest that to promote a safe physical restraint-related practice among ICU nurses, it is important to improve the nursing environment, prepare guidelines for applying PCCN, and provide education for endorsing positive attitudes toward the use of physical restraints.

  • The Supreme Court's en banc decision on December 12, 2022 (docket number 2016Do21314) presented a new standard for determining whether the use of diagnostic medical devices by Korean medical doctors constitutes oriental medical doctors constitutes unlicensed medical practice. Based on this standard, it was determined that the use of ultrasound by Korean medical doctors was not an unlicensed medical practice. Supreme Court's Decision 2016Du51405 on August 18, 2023, is the first case in which a new standard was applied to determine that an Korean medical doctor's use of electroencephalography to diagnose Parkinson's disease and dementia was not an unlicensed medical practice. The Supreme Court abolished the previous standard that Western medical knowledge and technology should not be required for Korean medical doctors to use medical devices. However, it was unclear whether Western medical diagnosis of Korean medical doctors using diagnostic medical devices would be viewed as an an auxiliary method of diagnosis. Parkinson's disease and dementia are Western medical diagnoses. The Supreme Court judged that the Western medical diagnosis of Korean medical doctors was not an unlicensed medical practice. This clearly explains what an auxiliary method of diagnosis means. In addition, the Supreme Court excluded the principles of development and production of electroencephalography from its judgment criteria. Automatic extraction and automatic reading of test results were also excluded. The criminal court's view that the meaning of oriental medical practice should be clearly and strictly interpreted from the perspective of an oriental doctor, and it was clarified that diagnostic medical devices were excluded from criminal punishment unless it was clear that they were not related to the principle of oriental medical practice. As a result, the Supreme Court made it clear that the use of diagnostic medical devices is excluded from criminal punishment unless it is clear that they are not related to the principles of Korean medicine.
