The Analysis of Children's Understanding of Addition and Subtraction of Fractions (분수의 덧셈과 뺄셈에 대한 아동의 이해 분석)

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate how children understand addition and subtraction of fractions and how their understanding influences the solutions of fractional word problems. Twenty students from 4th to 6th grades were involved in the study. Children's understanding of operations with fractions was categorized into "joining", "combine" and "computational procedures (of fraction addition)" for additions, "taking away", "comparison" and "computational procedures (of fraction subtraction)" for subtractions. Most children understood additions as combining two distinct sets and subtractions as removing a subset from a given set. In addition, whether fractions had common denominators or not did not affect how they interpret operations with fractions. Some children understood the meanings for addition and subtraction of fractions as computational procedures of each operation without associating these operations with the particular situations (e.g. joining, taking away). More children understood addition and subtraction of fractions as a computational procedure when two fractions had different denominators. In case of addition, children's semantic structure of fractional addition did not influence how they solve the word problems. Furthermore, we could not find any common features among children with the same understanding of fractional addition while solving the fractional word problems. In case of subtraction, on the other hand, most children revealed a tendency to solve the word problems based on their semantic structure of the fractional subtraction. Children with the same understanding of fractional subtraction showed some commonalities while solving word problems in comparison to solving word problems involving addition of fractions. Particularly, some children who understood the meaning for addition and subtraction of fractions as computational procedures of each operation could not successfully solve the word problems with fractions compared to other children.

Development and Application of Questionnaire for Self-Understanding and Change Capacity Related to Science Education: Focus on the Recognition of Pre-Service Elementary Teachers (과학교육 관련 자기이해와 변화역량 조사 도구 개발 및 적용 -초등예비교사의 인식을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the questionnaire on pre-service elementary teachers' recognition of self-understanding and change capacity for science education and to investigate their recognitions with it. At the beginning of the study, we made a tool to investigate the self-understanding and change capacity of pre-service elementary teachers through literature review and discussions. The former half of the questionnaire was related to self-understanding with factors such as 'self-concept clarity,' 'career identity' and 'self-efficacy:' 'self-understanding as a pre-service elementary teacher' (12 items) and 'self-understanding as a pre-service elementary science teacher' (12 items). Its latter half was about the change capacity with factors such as 'change sensitivity,' 'goal consciousness,' 'collaboration,' 'reflection,' and 'mastery.' It consisted of three parts: 'general change capacity,' 'change capacity as a pre-service elementary teacher' and 'change capacity as a pre-service elementary science teacher' with 17 items, respectively. With this tool, we surveyed 153 pre-service elementary teachers. The results are as follows: First, pre-service elementary teachers have a positive recognition about self-understanding and change capacity, but the recognition of self-understanding and change capacity as pre-service elementary science teachers were relatively less positive. Second, factors of self-understanding and change capacity as pre-service elementary science teachers have a significant correlation with each other. Especially, there was a high correlation between 'self-efficacy' of self-understanding and 'goal consciousness' and 'mastery' of change capacity. Based on these results, some implications for self-understanding and change capacity related to science education were discussed.

  • Can the appropriately programmed computer think?I analyse,in this paper, argugments for and against strong AI-thesis,basically Turing's argument and Searle's chinese room argument.Through a cirtical review of these arguments, I try to show that the supportes of Al-thesis like Turing fail to explain the subjective nature of human consciousness.However,I do not think that subjective consciousness is a necessary condition for the ability to understand language.(In this respect my views are different from Searle's). But when we consider the conditions of humans as language users,we should presuppose that a human being is the unity of body and mind (or consciousness). Therefore, our subjective consciousness,together with human body(thus,way of our behavior and life). serve as a mark of person.

  • 본 논문에서는 환경 잡음과 원거리 음성 입력 그리고 노인 발화 등의 열악한 음성 인식 환경에서의 음성 언어이해(spoken language understanding)를 위한 정보 추출 접근 방식에 대해 논하고 있다. 정보 추출의 목적은 미리 정의된 slot에 적절한 값을 찾는 것이다. 음성 언어 이해를 위한 정보 추출은 필수적인 요소만을 추출하는 것을 목적으로 하는 개념 집어내기(concept spotting) 접근 방식을 사용한다. 이러한 방식은 미리 정의된 개념 구조 slot에만 관심을 가지기 때문에. 음성 언어 이해에서 사용되는 정보 추출은 언어를 완전히 이해한다기보다는 부분적으로 이해하는 방식을 취하고 있다. 음성 입력 언어는 주로 열등한 인식 환경에서 이루어지기 때문에 많은 인식 오류를 가지고 이로 인해 텍스트 입력에 비해 이해하기 어렵다. 이러한 점을 고려하여, 특정 정보에 집중함으로써 음성 언어를 이해하고자 시도하였다. 도로 정보 안내 영역을 대상으로 한 실험에서 텍스트 입력(WER 0%)과 음성 입력(WER 39.0%)이 주어졌을 때, 개념 집어내기 방식의 F-measure 값은 각각 0.945, 0.823을 나타내었다.

A study on a textbook, 'Understanding on Steel' to teach young meister of steel industry (철강산업분야 영마이스터 인력 양성 위한 '철강의 이해' 교과서 내용 선정 연구)

  • This study aims at selecting contents of a text book, 'Understanding on Steel', and at presenting compilation methods of that book based on the previous researches on teaching young meister of steel industry. To do that, this, first analyzes subject profiles of textbooks on 'Understanding on Steel' to make questionnaires for the textbook compilation. Second, this study selects textbook contents improved through interviews. Third, this study revises, and complements broad contents, and selects detail units by selected professional committee which is composed of textbook researchers and editor groups. The research results are as follows: First, this study confirms that the formation of the broad contents of 'Understanding on Steel' presented in textbook profiles are appropriate, Second, this study selects subjects of detailed units along with the middle units of 'Understanding on Steel' by selecting parts needed to be improved in terms of the textbook formation. Third, this study presents the text formation system for the broad, middle and detailed units of the textbook, 'Understanding on Steel'.

  • Innovation has become a key distinct feature of modern industrial society. It is generally recognized that new knowledge and technology are one of the most important sources of innovation. However, because of their limited resources, firms can not pursue all the promising new knowledge and technology that have possibilities to be developed into critical innovation. In this article, using the stakeholder theory, we try to establish a new conceptual model that can be used for understanding knowledge creation and innovation in society. In a society, there exist diverse socio-economic groups that have conflicting values and interests. Our stakeholder theory perspective on innovation claims that innovation can occur only when new solutions can satisfy their idiosyncratic stakeholders' values and interests better than current existing solutions. From the viewpoint of stakeholder innovation theory, there could be three different types of innovation: value improvement innovation, non -traditional value Innovation, and innovation for non-traditional stakeholders.

Text Comprehension of Internet Novels as Interactivity (사용자 참여도에 따른 인터넷 소설의 이해)

  • 이 연구는 인터넷 소설을 읽을 때 사용자의 참여도에 따라 그 내용의 이해도가 어떻게 영향을 받는지 알아 보고자 한다. 현재 인터넷 소설은 소설의 양식이 인쇄매체에서 인터넷 매체로 옮겨졌음에도 불구하고 인터넷이라는 매체의 특성을 활용하지 못하고 있다. 인터넷 매체의 여러 특징들 가운데 상호작용성은 인쇄매체에서 인터넷 매체로의 전환을 이룬 다른 장르에서 주요 특징으로 고려되고 있다. 이것은 디지털 스토리텔링에서 사용자의 활동(action)에 관한 부분으로 활동적인(active) 사용자의 참여를 말한다(이 연구에서는 상호작용성을 사용자가 매체에 활동을 통한 개입, 사용자 참여도로 조작적 정의를 내린다). 또한 모니터를 통한 글 읽기는 인쇄매체에 비해 가독성이 떨어지고 훑어보는 글읽기(scanning)가 이루어지기 때문에 내용을 이해하는 데 어려움이 따른다. 인터넷 매체의 특성을 살리면서 글에 대한 이해도를 높이기 위해 사용자의 참여도를 독립변인으로 글의 이해에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 했다. 실험 1에서는 기존의 단편 추리 소설을 이용해 사용자의 글읽기 과정에서 범인추측의 정도에 차이를 주어 참여도에 변화를 주었다. 그 결과 사용자의 참여도에 따라 이해의 정도가 유의미함을 보였다. 이는 사용자의 참여도가 이해에 영향을 미친다는 기존 연구를 뒷받침하며 인터넷 소설에서 인터넷 매체의 특성을 살린 글의 기재가 글의 이해에 도움이 된다는 것을 말해준다. 실험 2에서는 실험 1과 같은 추리 소설을 이용하되 사용자의 참여도에 따라 소설 내용의 변화를 주었다. 실험 2의 결과 내용 변화에 따른 이해도의 차이는 나타나지 않았으나 자신이 선택하지 않은 경로로의 이야기 내용에 궁금증을 보고하며 글의 전체 내용에 관한 관심을 보였다. 이는 사용자의 참여가 글의 이해뿐만 아니라 흥미유발에도 영향을 미친다는 가능성을 보여주므로 상호작용적인 글읽기와 흥미유발에 관한 추후연구가 필요함을 시사한다. 이 연구는 또한 기존의 인터렉티브 스토리텔링 연구가 현 상황에 대한 보고와 구현된 시스템의 사용성 평가에 국한된 것에 반해 실험 연구로의 변화를 꾀하였다는 것에 의의를 둘 수 있다.

Grade 4, 5, and 6 Students' Making Sense of Graphs (초등학교 4·5·6학년 학생들의 그래프 이해 능력 조사)

  • This study investigates how well grade 4, 5, and 6 students understand graphs before formal education is done on graphs. For this, we analyzed students' understanding of graphs by classifying them into 'reading data', 'finding relationships between data', 'interpreting data', and 'understanding situations' based on previous studies. The results show that the students have good understanding of graphs that did not have formal education. This suggests that it is necessary to consider the timing of the introduction of the graph. In addition, when we look at the percentage of correctness of each graph, it is found that the understanding of the line graph is weaker than the other graphs. The common error in most graphs was that students relied on their own subjective thoughts and experiences rather than based on the data presented.

Theses of "living-together" and conditions of interculturality - through Dilthey's concept of "understanding" - ("함께-삶"의 테제와 상호문화의 조건 -딜타이의 "이해" 개념을 매개로-)

  • This article aims to articulate, via Dilthey's concept of "understanding", that the three reflective conditions of interculturality are compatible with the three theses of "living-together". The former was proposed by Prof. Joo Kwang Sun and the latter is my assertion. In my point of view, the three theses of "living-together" are firstly 'consciousness of relationship to others', secondly 'reciprocity of relating', and thirdly 'sharing of same representation of mutual relationship'. Considering Dilthey's concept of "understanding", we can confirm that his concept includes firstly 'understanding is only for something constructed by spirit', secondly 'it is relation between expression and something expressed', and thirdly 'it means construction of one whole living-together'. Therefore I think Dilthey's concept of "understanding" could be regarded as a medium concept which enables us to integrate the three reflective conditions of interculturality with the three theses of "living-together". So I try to explain compatibility between the three conditions of interculturality and the theses of "living-together".

  • The psychology of Carl G. Jung is often called an "ancilla religionis"(servant of religion, James Heisig), by which Jung's understanding of the unconsciousness of human being as the religious one is well expressed. According to Jung the dichotomy between the consciousness and the unconsciousness of men is reconciled in the various religious symbols of the world religions. He also asserted that the religious symbols must be understood and interpreted by a symbolical way. When the religious symbols are understood literally and dogmatically, they lost their dynamic power to bring salvation to men. In this paper I try to understand the essence of the symbolical and intuitional understanding of the exclusiveness of Jesus Christ. The confession of the Christianity that only Christ, once for all, could bring the salvation to the whole humankind is to be interpreted by a symbolical and intuitional way. That means, Christ is to be understood as a always new being at every time when he is confessed as a salvator. Christ as a symbol could never be a historical past. I mentioned about the understanding of Buddha by Muneyoshi Yanagi, a Japanese Shinto Buddhist, in order to show how such a symbolical and intuitional understanding of the Christ could be possible.
