  • Consider the problem of estimating an arbitrary continuous vector function under a weighted quadratic loss in the multiparameter exponential family with the density of the natural form. We first provide, using Blyth's (1951) method, a set of sufficient conditions for the admisibility of (possibly generalized Bayes) estimators and then treat some examples for normal, Poisson, and gamma distributions as applications of the main result.

  • Thiazolidinediones (TZDs) act as potent activators of the adipose differentiation program in established preadipose cell lines. TZD's have also been investigated in diabetic patients and reported to act as PPAR-${\gamma}$ ligands. In this report, the effects of TZDs on the differentiation pathway of myoblasts have been investigated. C2C12 mouse myoblasts were grown in Dulbecco's Modified Eagles medium for 4-5 days until they reached almost 100% confluency. Post-confluent cells (day 0) were further exposed to adipogenic induction medium along with TZDs for 48 hours. Thereafter, cells were exposed only to TZDs every 48 h until day 10. The control was provided with differentiation medium without any treatment. Alterations in the cells during the differentiation programme were analyzed on the basis of fusion index, oil-red-o staining, adipocyte index, adipocyte stain uptake measurement, immuno-histochemistry and western blotting. Exposure of C2C12 mouse myoblasts to TZDs prevented the expression of myosin heavy chain with parallel increase in the expression of C/EBP-${\alpha}$ and PPAR-${\gamma}$ and acquisition of adipocyte morphology, thus abolishing the formation of multinucleated myotubes. TZDs exert their adipogenic effects only in non-terminally differentiated myoblasts; myotubes were insensitive to the compound. Continuous exposure (at least 4-5 doses) to inducers after the growth arrest was essential to provide a sustained environment to the cells converting to fully matured adipoctyes. The results indicate that TZDs specifically converted the differentiation pathway of myoblasts into that of adipoblasts.

  • The author extended the small properties of topological semilattices to that of regular semigroups [3]. In this paper, it could be shown that a semigroup S is almost regular if and only if over bar RL = over bar R.cap.L for every right ideal R and every left ideal L of S. Moreover, it has shown that the Bohr compactification of an almost regular semigroup is regular. Throughout, a semigroup will mean a topological semigroup which is a Hausdorff space together with a continuous associative multiplication. For a semigroup S, we denote E(S) by the set of all idempotents of S. An element x of a semigroup S is called regular if and only if x .mem. xSx. A semigroup S is termed regular if every element of S is regular. If x .mem. S is regular, then there exists an element y .mem S such that x xyx and y = yxy (y is called an inverse of x) If y is an inverse of x, then xy and yx are both idempotents but are not always equal. A semigroup S is termed recurrent( or almost pointwise periodic) at x .mem. S if and only if for any open set U about x, there is an integer p > 1 such that x$^{p}$ .mem.U.S is said to be recurrent (or almost periodic) if and only if S is recurrent at every x .mem. S. It is known that if x .mem. S is recurrent and .GAMMA.(x)=over bar {x,x$^{2}$,..,} is compact, then .GAMMA.(x) is a subgroup of S and hence x is a regular element of S.

  • This paper presentss flux-to-dose conversion factors for neutrons and gamma-rays based on the concept of the maximum absorbed dose. Neutron flux-to-does-rate conversion factors for energies from 2.5$\times$10$^{-8}$ to 20 MeV are presented while the conversion factors for gamma-rays are given in the energy range of 0.01 to 15MeV. Flux-to-does-rate conversion factors, which were calculated under the assumption that the radiation energy distribution has nonlinearity in phantom, are different from those values obtained by monoenergetic radiation. Especially, these values obtained here were determined for the cross section libray such as DLC-23, DLC-27, and DLC-31. The flux-to-dose-rate conversion factors obtained in this work are in a good agreement with the values presented by American National Standard Institute (ANSI) N666. These results are used to calculate the dose rate distribution of neutron and gamma-ray in any radiation fields, and will be useful for the radiation shielding analysis, radiation protection and radiation dosimetry concerned with problems of continuous energy distribution.

  • In this paper, we introduce and consider a new system of relaxed cocoercive variational inequalities involving three different operators and the concept of projective nonexpansive mapping. Base on the projection technique, we suggest two kinds of new iterative methods for the approximate solvability of this system. The results presented in this paper extend and improve the main results of [S.S. Chang, H.W.J. Lee, C.K. Chan, Generalized system for relaxed co coercive variational inequalities in Hilbert spaces, Appl. Math. Lett. 20 (2007) 329-334] and [Z. Huang, M. • GW170817/GRB170817A establishes a double neutron star merger as the progenitor of a short gamma-ray burst, starting 1.7 s post-coalescence. GRB170817A represents prompt or continuous emission from a newly formed hyper-massive neutron star or black hole. We report on a deep search for broadband extended gravitational-wave emission in spectrograms up to 700 Hz of LIGO O2 data covering this event produced by butterfly filtering comprising a bank of templates of 0.5 s. A detailed discussion is given of signal-to-noise ratios in image analysis of spectrograms and confidence levels of candidate features. This new pipeline is realized by heterogeneous computing with modern graphics processor units (GPUs). (Based on van Putten, M.H.PM., 2017, PTEP, 093F01.)

  • The effluent from anaerobic digestion contains organic nitrogen and phosphorus, which are both required for growth of Spirulina platensis. Effluent (20%) from the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) from a pig farm, supplemented with 4.5 g/l sodium bicarbonate ($NaHCO_3$) and 0.2 g/l urea fertilizer (46:0:0, N:P:K), was found to be not only a suitable medium for the growth of Spirulina platensis but also a low-cost alternative. Cost calculation showed that this medium is 4.4 times cheaper than modifized Zarrouk's medium. The average productivities of a semi-continuous culture grown under outdoor conditions in a 6-1 scale and a 100-1 pilot scale were 19.9 $g/m^2/d$ and 12 $g/m^2/d$, respectively. In addition, the biomass of organisms grown in UASB effluent contained approximately 57.9% protein, 1.12% $\gamma$-linolenic acid, and 19.5% phycocyanin. The average rates of bicarbonate, total nitrogen, and phosphorus removal were 380 mg/l/d, 34 mg/l/d, and 4 mg/l/d, respectively.

  • Background: It is very difficult to distinguish between a radioactive contamination source and background radiation from natural radionuclides in the marine environment by means of online monitoring system. The objective of this study was to investigate a statistical process for triggering abnormal level of count rate data measured from our on-line seawater radioactivity monitoring. Materials and Methods: Count rate data sets in time series were collected from 9 monitoring posts. All of the count rate data were measured every 15 minutes from the region of interest (ROI) for $^{137}Cs$ ($E_{\gamma}=661.6keV$) on the gamma-ray energy spectrum. The Shewhart ($3{\sigma}$), CUSUM, and Bayesian S-R control chart methods were evaluated and the comparative analysis of determination methods for count rate data was carried out in terms of the false positive incidence rate. All statistical algorithms were developed using R Programming by the authors. Results and Discussion: The $3{\sigma}$, CUSUM, and S-R analyses resulted in the average false positive incidence rate of $0.164{\pm}0.047%$, $0.064{\pm}0.0367%$, and $0.030{\pm}0.018%$, respectively. The S-R method has a lower value than that of the $3{\sigma}$ and CUSUM method, because the Bayesian S-R method use the information to evaluate a posterior distribution, even though the CUSUM control chart accumulate information from recent data points. As the result of comparison between net count rate and gross count rate measured in time series all the year at a monitoring post using the $3{\sigma}$ control charts, the two methods resulted in the false positive incidence rate of 0.142% and 0.219%, respectively. Conclusion: Bayesian S-R and CUSUM control charts are better suited for on-line seawater radioactivity monitoring with an count rate data in time series than $3{\sigma}$ control chart. However, it requires a continuous increasing trend to differentiate between a false positive and actual radioactive contamination. For the determination of count rate, the net count method is better than the gross count method because of relatively a small variation in the data points.

  • The electro-optical characteristics of several functional layers over the MgO protective layer were studied during the continuous discharge of an AC-PDP. In order to observe the degradation of each functional layer on the MgO protection layer, we measured the surface morphology, cathodoluminescence (CL) spectrum, the secondary electron emission coefficient (${\gamma}$) and the discharge characteristics after 500 hours of discharge during the operation of the AC-PDP.

  • This paper reviews several different single site generation models for further development of a model for generating the Synthetic sequences of streamflow in the continuous streams like main streams in Korea. Initially the historical time series is looked using a time series technique, that is correlograms, to determine whether a lag one Markov model will satisfactorily represent the historical data. The single site models which were examined include an empirical model using the historical probability distribution of the random component, the linear autoregressive model(Markov model, or Thomas-Fiering model) using both logarithms of the data and Matala's log-normal transformation equations, and finally gamma distribution model.
