Effect of internal angles between limbs of cross plan shaped tall building under wind load

  • The present study revealed comparison the pressure distribution on the surfaces of regular cross plan shaped building with angular cross plan shaped building which is being transformed from basic cross plan shaped building through the variation of internal angles between limbs by $15^{\circ}$ for various wind incidence angle from $0^{\circ}$ to $180^{\circ}$ at an interval of $30^{\circ}$. In order to maintain the area same the limbs sizes are slightly increased accordingly. Numerical analysis has been carried out to generate similar nature of flow condition as per IS: 875 (Part -III):1987 (a mean wind velocity of 10 m/s) by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with help of ANSYS CFX ($k-{\varepsilon}$ model). The variation of mean pressure coefficients, pressure distribution over the surface, flow pattern and force coefficient are evaluated for each cases and represented graphically to understand extent of nonconformities due to such angular modifications in plan. Finally regular cross shaped building results are compared with wind tunnel results obtained from similar '+' shaped building study with similar flow condition. Reduction in along wind force coefficients for angular crossed shaped building, observed for various skew angles leads to develop lesser along wind force on building compared to regular crossed shaped building and square plan shaped building. Interference effect within the internal faces are observed in particular faces of building for both cases, considerably. Significant deviation is noticed in wind induced responses for angular cross building compared to regular cross shaped building for different direction wind flow.

아트리움에서 화재 발생시 복사가 고려된 연기거동에 대한 수치해석 연구 (A Numerical Study of Smoke Movement with Radiation in Atrium Fires)

  • 본 연구는 3차원 아트리움 공간(일본의 SIVANS 아트리움)내에서 화재 발생시 복사가 고려된 연기의 거동을 알아보기 위해 자체개발한 SMEP(Smoke Movement Estimating Program) Held 모델을 사용하여 수치해석하였다. PISO 알고리즘과 부력항을 포함한 수정 k-$\\varepsilon$ 난류모델을 사용한 SMEP은 연속, 운동, 에너지, 농도 그리고 복사 열 전달 방정식을 풀었으며, 복사 열 전달 방정식의 해석을 위하여 S-N 구분종좌표법을 채택하여 사용하였다. 수치해석 결과 연기의 온도분포는 복사와 대류를 힘께 고려했을 경우가 대류만을 고려했을 경우 보다 실험결과와 근사한 경향을 나타내었다. 이것은 연기속에 포함되어 있는 연소생성을 중 $H_2$O와 $CO_2$ 가스의 복사 영향 때문이며, 따라서 좀더 실제적인 화재해석에 있어서 연기의 복사 영향을 고려하는 것이 필요하다. 또한 연층의 하강 복도는 약 0.l m/s이었으며 피난수준인 바닥 1.5m까지 연층이 도달하는 데에는 56 kW의 Ultra Fast Fire의 경우 약 450초의 시간이 걸렸다.

규칙파중 전진하는 선박의 유체역학적 응답에 대한 비정상 수치해석 (Unsteady RANS Analysis of the Hydrodynamic Response for a Ship with Forward Speed in Regular Wave)

  • The present paper provides a CFD analysis of diffraction problem for a ship with forward speed using an unsteady RANS simulation method, a WAVIS code. The WAVIS viscous solver adopting a finite volume method has second order accuracy in time and field discretizaions for the RANS equations. A two phase level-set method and a realizable ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model are adopted to compute the free surface and to meet the turbulence closure, respectively. To validate the capability of the present numerical methods for the simulation of an unsteady progressive regular wave, computations are performed for three grid sets with refinement ratio of ${\sqrt{2}}$. The main simulation is performed for a DTMB5512 model with a forward speed in a regular head sea condition. Validation of the present numerical method is carried out by comparing the present CFD results with available unsteady experimental data published in the 2005 Tokyo CFD Workshop: resistance, heave force, pitch moment, unsteady free surface elevations and velocity fields.

EMBR을 이용한 연주공정에서의 난류유동 및 응고에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Turbulent Flow and Solidification in a Continuous Casting Process with Electromagnetic Brake)

  • Two-dimensional turbulent fluid flow and solidification were investigated in a continuous casting process of a steel slab with electromagnetic field. The electromagnetic field was described by the Maxwell equations. The enthalpy-porosity relation was employed to suppress the velocity within a mushy region. A revised low-Reynolds number $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model was used to consider the turbulent effects. It is shown that the temperature gradient in the casting direction in the case with EMBR becomes very weak compared to that of the case without EMBR. The results also show that the velocity profiles of the case with solidification are quite different from those of the case without solidification.

지하철 승가장내의 환기 특성에 관한 해석적 연구 (The simulation on the characteristics of ventilation in the subway platform)

  • The purpose of present study is to find design parameters and operating conditions of the HVAC system in a subway platform. The simulation was carried out for the flow, heat and mass transfer for heating, ventilating and air-conditioning(HVAC) environments in the subway platform. The steady-state. incompressible flow assumption and standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model are adopted. The location of HVAC air inlet above platform and the volume flow rate of curtain air released from inlet B are chosen as main parameters in this study. The results of present study are following: In the case of existence of train, the heat and contaminant released under the train have no effect on the average temperature and mass fraction of contaminant in the platform, but heat released on the train has influence on the average temperature in the platform. Train acts as an obstacle to exhaust the contaminant in the platform, but has good effect on the average temperature in the platform.

  • It is well known that an automotive muffle strongly influences engine efficiency and noise reduction. The performance of a muffler system is determined by the geometrical parameters such as the relative location of an inlet and outlet pipe size and cross sectional geometry of a chamber. In this study numerical analysis was performed to examine the flow characteristics in the simple automotive muffler for the variation of volumetric rate and offset. The computational grid generation was carried out. The RNG k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model was applied. To provide the boundary condition for numerical analysis the experimental measurement wes carried out. As a result of this study we could understand that there was a recirculation flow inside muffler and pressure loss depends on the variation of volumetric rate and offset.

원환형 덮개장착이 스피너 장비의 기류에 미치는 영향 (EFFECTS OF PLACEMENT OF A TORUS PLATE COVER ON AIR FLOW IN A SPINNER EQUIPMENT)

  • A numerical investigation is made of air flow in a spinner equipment used for cleanning and drying flat display panels. A unique feature of the spinner under question is the placement of a torus plate cover over the rotating plate. The turbulent flow is driven by rotation of a large disk and suction by the exhaust system connected to vacuum chamber. The flow is modelled as an axisymmetric two-dimensional flow and computation is conducted by using the FLUENT package with a version of k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model. The required capacity of the exhaust system is assessed numerically. The usefulness of the cover in controlling air flow circulation is examined. A computational trouble shooting is attempted to resolve the problem of panel rising which occurred in real experiment.

Effect of the Gurney Flap on a NACA 23012 Airfoil

  • A numerical investigation was performed to determine the effect of the Gurney flap on a NACA 23012 airfoil. A Navier-Stokes code, RAMPANT, was used to calculate the flow field about the airfoil. Fully-turbulent results were obtained using the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ two-equation turbulence model. The numerical solutions showed that the Gurney flap increased both lift and drag. These results suggested that the Gurney flap served to increase the effective camber of the airfoil. The Gurney flap provided a significant increase in the lift-to-drag ratio relatively at low angle of attack and for high lift coefficient. It turned out that 0.6% chord size of flap was the best. The numerical results exhibited detailed flow structures at the trailing edge and provided a possible explanation for the increased aerodynamic performance.

  • Flow analysis of automobile front-end cooling fan are numerically investigated. The Navier-Stokes equations and the continuity equation are solved in the flow domain. The Reynolds stresses are modelled using the $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. Flow and pressure characteristics around the fan are investigated. The pressure sharply increases through the fan. Pressure variations on the pressure and suction sides of the fan are well represented in the calculations. The flow streamlines in the blade passage are nearly parallel to the blade.

일반 비직교좌표계를 사용하는 3차원 범용 유동해석 프로그램의 개발 (A Study on the Development of General Purpose Program for the Analysis of 3-D Fluid Flow by Using a General non-Orthogonal Grid System)

  • A general purpose program, TURBO-3D, for the analysis of 3-D fluid flow in complex geometry has been developed, which employs a standard $k-\varepsilon$ turbulence model and a general nonorthogonal grid system. For the purpose of verification of the program and testing the applicability, turbulent flows in an S-shaped diffuser and turbulent flows over an backward facing step are solved and compared with the earlier results. Comparison with the results by the STAR-CD program has been also made for the same flow configuration and grid structure. The agreements are excellent and hence the program has been verified. Since the present program is applicable only on limited flow phenomena and lacks the pre-and post processor, further improvements toward these directions are being made.
