  • The cycle of heavy metal, copper, was investigated in dynamic grassland ecosystems at a steady state in a Zoysia japonica and a Miscanthus sinensis ecosystem in Mt Kwanak, Korea. Total average storage amounts in Z. japonica and M sinensis grasslands were copper 23.92mg /$m^2$ and 51.82mg /$m^2$ respectively. Estimates of decay constants for based on experimental and mathematical model, were 0.18 in Z. japonica grassland, and 0.30 in M sinensis grassland. Decay half time of copper were 3.85 years in Z. japonica grassland and 2.31 years in A'. sinensis grassland. 95% decay times of initial copper amounts in Z. japonica and A'. sinensis were 16.68 and 9.99 years. Needed times to decay almost all of elements in Z. japonica and M sinensis grassland were 27.80 years and 16.65 years respectively. The copper was losed more rapidly in M. sinensis than in Z. japonica grassland.

  • In this paper we investigate a subclass 𝓜(α) of the class of starlike functions in the unit disk |z| < 1. 𝓜(α), π/2 ≤ α < π, is the set of all analytic functions f in the unit disk |z| < 1 with the normalization f(0) = f'(0) - 1 = 0 that satisfy the condition $$1+\frac{{\alpha}-{\pi}}{2\;sin\;{\alpha}}. The class 𝓜(α) was introduced by Kargar et al. [Complex Anal. Oper. Theory 11: 1639-1649, 2017]. In this paper some basic geometric properties of the class 𝓜(α) are investigated. Among others things, coefficients estimates and bound are given for the Fekete-Szegö functional associated with the k-th root transform [f(zk)]1/k. Also a certain subclass of bi-starlike functions is introduced and the bounds for the initial coefficients are obtained.

  • This study was carried out to elucidate the vertical characteristics of soil properties at six planted sites of land reclaimed from the sea, in Gwangyang Bay, Jeollanam-do Province, Korea. Based on the types of planting site, the chemical properties of the vertical soil layers varied. The vertical variation was great in the planting sites $Z_1\;and\;Z_2$, but less varied in the mounded planting sites $Z_3,\;Z_5,\;and\;Z_6$. Major reasons for the vertical variation in soil chemical properties included differences in the accumulation of organic matter, soil disturbance by heavy construction equipment, and heterogeneity of soil properties between soil horizons. As soil depths increased, soil salts varied. The electrical conductivity (ECe) increased in the lower areas of planting sites $Z_1\;and\;Z_2$, and the disturbed, saline planting site $Z_3$, but decreased in the lower areas of $Z_3,\;Z_5,\;and\;Z_6$. These tendencies did not coincided with exchange cation concentrations $(Na^+,\;K^+,\;Mg^{++},\;Ca^{++})$. Both total carbon (T-C) and total nitrogen (T-N) accumulated more in the lower areas of planting sites than in the higher areas, and levels were higher closer to the surface than in the soil depths. It is supposed that these tendencies are related to the accumulation of fallen leaves or other organic matter at the soil surface, and the soil chemicals then slowly move downward from the surface. Impediments to tree growth included soil hardiness, high soil salinity and exchangeable cation concentration, low soil moisture content, acidic or alkaline soil, low organic matter, heterogeneity of soil texture and establishment of soil stratification.

  • This paper reports the facile synthesis methods of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles, Z1-Z10, using diethylene glycol (DEG) and polyethylene glycol (PEG400). The particle size and morphology were correlated with the PEG concentration and reaction time. With 0.75 mL of PEG400 in 150 mL of DEG and a 20 h reaction time, the ZnO nanoparticles began to disperse from a collective spherical grain shape. The ZnO nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and a $N_2$ adsorption-desorption studies. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface areas of Z4, Z5 and Z10 were 157.083, 141.559 and 233.249 $m^2/g$, respectively. The observed pore diameters of Z4, Z5 and Z10 were 63.4, 42.0 and 134.0 ${\AA}$, respectively. The pore volumes of Z4, Z5 and Z10 were 0.249, 0.148 and 0.781 $cm^3/g$, respectively. The photocatalytic activity of the synthesized ZnO nanoparticles was evaluated by methylene blue (MB) degradation, and the activity showed a good correlation with the $N_2$ adsorption-desorption data.

  • Osmotolerant yeast isolated from soy paste could grow on media with 2 M NaCl. This strain was identified as Zygosaccharomyces rouxii by biological characteristics, RFLP of ribosomal DNA and mating with compatible haploid strain. Growing rate of the Z. rouxii YDJ was slower than Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Z. rouxii YDJ accumulated trehalose, which is known as one of the osmolytic protectants, in cells cultured on media with salt. Enzyme activity of trehalose phosphate synthase related to trehalose biosynthesis of the YDJ was lower than those of S. cerevisiae. Trehalase activity related trehalose degradation was also lower in Z. rouxii YDJ than S. cerevisiae. However, as Z. rouxii accumulated trehalose by salt treatment, salt tolerancy of Z. rouxii was assumed to be related to trehalose in additon to glycerol.

  • Using the fixed point method, we prove the Ulam-Hyers stability of the orthogonally additive and orthogonally quadratic functional equation $$f(\frac{x}{2}+y)+f(\frac{x}{2}-y)+f(\frac{x}{2}+z)+f(\frac{x}{2}-z)=\frac{3}{2}f(x)-\frac{1}{2}f(-x)+f(y)+f(-y)+f(z)+f(-z)$$ (0.1) for all $x$, $y$, $z$ with $x{\bot}y$, in orthogonality Banach spaces and in non-Archimedean orthogonality Banach spaces.

  • Let $p$ be analytic in the unit disc U and let $q$ be univalent in U. In addition, let ${\Omega}$ be a set in C and let ${\psi}:c^3{\times}U{\rightarrow}C$. The author determines conditions on ${\psi}$ so that $$\{{\psi}(p(z),zp^{\prime}(z),z^2p^{{\prime}{\prime}}(z);z){\mid}z{\in}U\}{\subset}{\Omega}{\Rightarrow}p(U){\subset}q(U)$$. Applications of this result to differential inequalities, differential subordinations and integral inequalities are presented.

  • In the previous work [5] we have determined the group ${{\varepsilon}_{\sharp}}^{dim+r}^{dim+r}(X)$ for $X\;=\;M(Z_q,\;n+1){\vee}M(Z_q,\;n)$ for all integers q > 1. In this paper, we investigate the group ${{\varepsilon}_{\sharp}}^{dim+r}(X)$ for $X\;=\;M(Z{\oplus}Z_q,\;n+1){\vee}M(Z{\oplus}Z_q,\;n)$ for all odd numbers q > 1.

  • Let p(z) be a polynomial of degree n having no zero in |z| < k, k ≥ 1. Then Malik [12] obtained the following inequality: $${_{max \atop {\mid}z{\mid}=1}{\mid}p{\prime}(z){\mid}{\leq}{\frac{n}{1+k}}{_{max \atop {\mid}z{\mid}=1}{\mid}p(z){\mid}.$$ In this paper, we shall first improve as well as generalize the above inequality. Further, we also improve the bounds of two known inequalities obtained by Govil et al. [8].
