  • From 329 earthquake data in the Korean Peninsula, we separated the intrinsic and scattering quality factor ($Q_i^{-1}$ and $Q_s^{-1}$) using the Multiple Lapse Time Window Analysis (MLTW) method. For the homogeneous velocity structure, $Q_i^{-1}$ reduces the amplitudes of both direct and coda waves; $Q_s^{-1}$ diminishes the direct wave amplitude but enlarges the coda wave amplitude. Based on this phenomenon, MLTW method analytically derives theoretical curves and obtains $Q_i^{-1}$ and $Q_s^{-1}$ by least square fit with observation curves. This study is the first approach for the seismic stable region by MLTW method, and show that $Q_i^{-1}$ and $Q_s^{-1}$ in the Korean Peninsula are very low at lower than frequencies of 5 Hz. This low value seems to be related to the inactive tectonism of the Korean Peninsula.

  • In this paper, after analyzing the effect of I/Q imbalance in an OFDM system, the detection method of an OFDM signal distorted by I/Q imbalance is proposed. Also, the channel estimation and the pilot symbol design scheme are proposed for using the proposed detection method. Since I/Q imbalance in an OFDM system degrades the SIR and the BER(Bit Error Ratio) performance, the robust detection method is required for an OFDM system. the proposed detection method can effectively suppress the interference caused by I/Q imbalance using characteristics of an OFDM signal differently from the conventional method, and results in improving the SIR of a desired OFDM signal.

  • In this paper, the nonlinear matrix equation $$X+\sum_{i=1}^{m}A_i^*X^{-q}A_i=Q(0<q{\leq}1)$$ is investigated. Some necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for the existence of positive definite solutions for the matrix equation are derived. Two iterative methods for the maximal positive definite solution are proposed. A perturbation estimate and an explicit expression for the condition number of the maximal positive definite solution are obtained. The theoretical results are illustrated by numerical examples.

  • For $q^5-q^3-q^2-q+1{\leq}d{\leq}q^5-q^3-q^2$, we prove the non-existence of a $[g_q(6,d),6,d]_q$ code and we give a $[g_q(6,d)+1,6,d]_q$ code by constructing appropriate 0-cycle in the projective space, where $g_q (k,d)={{\sum}^{k-1}_{i=0}}{\lceil}\frac{d}{q^i}{\rceil}$. Consequently, we have the minimum length $n_q(6,d)=g_q(6,d)+1\;for\;q^5-q^3-q^2-q+1{\leq}d{\leq}q^5-q^3-q^2\;and\;q{\geq}3$.

  • Mount Fuji is the focus of intense study because of its potential hazard signaled by seismic, geologic and historical activity. Based on extensive seismic data recorded in the vicinity of Mt. Fuji, coda quality factor ($Q_c^{-1}$) using a single scattering model hypothesis, and intrinsic and scattering quality factor $(Q_i^{-1}$ and $Q_s^{-1})$ using the Multiple Lapse Time Window Analysis (MLTW) method was measured. To focus the study on the magmatic structure below Mt. Fuji, to the data were separated into two groups: a near-Fuji region of rays traversing an area with radius 5 km around the summit (R < 5 km), and a far-Fuji region of rays beyond a radius of 20 km around the summit (R > 20 km). The results of the study have a small error range due to the large data sample, showing that all $Q^{-1}$ values in near-Fuji area are greater than those of far-Fuji area, and $Q_i^{-1}$ for both the near and far-Fuji area is higher than $Q_s^{-1}$ at high frequencies. The $Q_i^{-1}$ values of the near-Fuji area are lower than those of the other volcanic areas considered, while values of $Q_s^{-1}$ are not. The low $Q_i^{-1}$ for the volcanic region of near-Fuji suggests that the magmatic activity, or percent of partial melt, at Mt. Fuji is not as active as hot spot volcanoes such as Kilauea, Hawaii.

  • Recently, copy number variations (CNV) of genes or genomic segments have been intensively studied and various analysis methods have been developed. In this study, quantitative oligonucleotide ligation assay (qOLA) was applied to investigate CNV of KIT gene in the Landrace breed. A combined assay using qOLA and pyrosequencing, 6 genotype classes, I1/I1 or I3/i (IBe), I1/I2 or I3/IP, I1/I3, I1/IP or I2/i (IBe), I2/I2and I2/IP, were identified from 44 Landrace pigs. Genotype assignment using grouping features of measurements on a scatter plot showed 100% agreement with those using a statistical assignment by PROC FASTCLUS procedure implemented in the SAS package. Two versions (3100 and 3130) of ABI sequencers gave the same genotyping results, indicating there was no influence on qOLA by different versions of instrument, however, the means of standard deviation and coefficient of variation from the qOLA on a ABI 3130 (2.33 and 4.10) was lower than those from the qOLA on a ABI 3100 (2.67 and 4.81). Effect of proteinase K treatment on the PCR product followed by qOLA was very clear because noise peaks were disappeared and the observed ration fit better to the reference ratio corresponding to each genotype.

  • The functional equation related to a distance measure f(pr, qs) + f(ps, qr) = M(r, s)f(p, q) + M(p, q)f(r, s) can be generalized a sum form functional equation as follows $${\frac{1}{n}}{\sum\limits_{i=0}^{n-1}}f(P{\cdot}{\sigma}_i(Q))=M(Q)f(P)+M(P)f(Q)$$ where f, g is information measures, P and Q are the set of n-array discrete measure, and σi is a permutation for each i = 0, 1, ⋯, n-1. In this paper, we obtain the hyperstability of the above type functional equation.

  • Hahn difference operator $D_{q,{\omega}}$ which is defined by $$D_{q,{\omega}}g(t)=\{{\frac{g(gt+{\omega})-g(t)}{t(g-1)+{\omega}}},{\hfill{20}}\text{if }t{\neq}{\theta}:={\frac{\omega}{1-q}},\\g^{\prime}({\theta}),{\hfill{83}}\text{if }t={\theta}$$ received a lot of interest from many researchers due to its applications in constructing families of orthogonal polynomials and in some approximation problems. In this paper, we investigate sufficient conditions for stability of the abstract linear Hahn difference equations of the form $$D_{q,{\omega}}x(t)=A(t)x(t)+f(t),\;t{\in}I$$, and $$D^2{q,{\omega}}x(t)+A(t)D_{q,{\omega}}x(t)+R(t)x(t)=f(t),\;t{\in}I$$, where $A,R:I{\rightarrow}{\mathbb{X}}$, and $f:I{\rightarrow}{\mathbb{X}}$. Here ${\mathbb{X}}$ is a Banach algebra with a unit element e and I is an interval of ${\mathbb{R}}$ containing ${\theta}$.

  • It is well-known that there exists a constant-weight $[s{\theta}_{k-1},k,sq^{k-1}]_q$ code for any positive integer s, which is an s-fold simplex code, where ${\theta}_j=(q^{j+1}-1)/(q-1)$. This gives an upper bound $n_q(k,sq^{k-1}+d){\leq}s{\theta}_{k-1}+n_q(k,d)$ for any positive integer d, where $n_q(k,d)$ is the minimum length n for which an $[n,k,d]_q$ code exists. We construct a two-weight $[s{\theta}_{k-1}+1,k,sq^{k-1}]_q$ code for $1{\leq}s{\leq}k-3$, which gives a better upper bound $n_q(k,sq^{k-1}+d){\leq}s{\theta}_{k-1}+1+n_q(k-1,d)$ for $1{\leq}d{\leq}q^s$. As another application, we prove that $n_q(5,d)={\sum_{i=0}^{4}}{\lceil}d/q^i{\rceil}$ for $q^4+1{\leq}d{\leq}q^4+q$ for any prime power q.
