The Influence of PbO Content on the Crystallisation Characteristics and Dielectric Properties of Glass Frit for LTCC (LTCC용 Glass Frit의 결정화 특성 및 유전 특성에 대한 PbO 함량의 영향)

  • In this study, the glass frit of $PbO-TiO-2-SiO_2-BaO-ZnO-Al_2O-3-CaO-B_2O_3-Bi_2O_3-MgO$ system was manufactured. The glass was melted at $1,400{\circ}C$, quenched and attrition-milled. The glass frit powder was pressed and fired for 2h at the range of $750~1,000{\circ}C$. The crystallization of glass frit began at about $750{\circ}$ and at low temperature, the main crystal phases were hexagonal celsian($BaAl_2Si_2O_8$) and alumina. As the firing temperature increased, the crystal phases of monoclinic celsian, zinc aluminate, zinc silicate, calcium titanium silicate and titania appeared. And the increase of firing temperature led to transformation of hexagonal celsian to monoclinic. The only glass frit containing 15wt% PbO had the crystal phase of solid solution of $PbTiO_3-CaTiO_3$. At the frequency of 1 MHz, the dielectric constant of glass frit crystallized was in the range of 11~16 and the dielectric loss less than 0.020. But the glass frit containing 15wt% PbO had the dielectric constant of 17~26 and loss of 0.010~0.015 because of crystal phase of solid solution of $PbTiO_3-CaTiO_3$.

  • Effects of $La_2O_3$, $MnO_2$ on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $0.02Pb(Y_{2/3}W_{1/3}O_3-0.98Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ system were investigated. The addition of La2O3 to the system enhanced electromechanical coupling factor (kp), piezoelectric constant (d33), but hardly changed mechanical quality factor (Qm). On the other hand, the addition of $MnO_2$ increased Qm significantly, but did not degrade kp and d33 so much. The piezoelectric properties of $0.02Pb(Y_{2/3}W_{1/3}O_3-0.98Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ containing 0.1wt% $La_2O_3$, 0.4wt% $MnO_2$ were very good and kp, d33, Qm were 55%, 350$\times$10-12C/N, 780, respectively. The size of the grains was proportional to the change of c/a (tetragonality) ratio caused by the addition of $La_2O_3$ and $MnO_2$, and dielectric, piezoelectric properties were sensitive to the amountof pyrochrole phase.

  • The crystallized solder glasses with the low melting temperature for electronic package were prepared with the compositions of 77-80wt% PbO, 4.5-6wt% ZnO, 7.5-8.5wt% $B_2O_3$, 1-2wt% CaO, and 0.5-2.0wt% $P_2O_5$ containing 3-7wt% $TiO_2$. The Characterization of the solder glasses were studied using DTA, SEM and XRD. Frit containing 3wt% $TiO_2$ had crytallzation temperature range of $420-440^{\circ}C$. The major crystalline phase was identified as $2PbO{\cdot}ZnO{\cdot}B_2O_3$ by X-ray diffraction. Frits containing 4 wt% $TiO_2$ consisted of crysalline Phases of $PbTiO_3$ and $2PbO{\cdot}ZnO{\cdot}B_2O_3$ in the temperature range of $420-440^{\circ}C$, When g1ass frit containing 5wt% $TiO_2$ were heat-treated in the temperature range of $440-460^{\circ}C$, major crytalline phase was perovskite lead titanate.

  • Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 and (1-x)Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3-xPbTiO3 ceramics were prepared by the precalcination method. Their structural and dielectric properties were investigated. The amount of perovsikte phase was increased by the precalcination and the dielectric properties of ceramics were improved. Additions of PbTiO3 were found to increase the tetragonality (c/a) of crystal lattice and Tc. In the middle region of (1-x)Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3-xPbTiO3, duffuse phase transitions (DPT) were observed.

  • To obtain a higher dielectric constant material, we investigated Ca substitution for Pb in PbZrO3. In this study, the four mixtures of (Pb0.68Ca0.32)ZrO3, (Pb0.65Ca0.37)ZrO3, (Pb0.63Ca0.37)ZrO3, and (Pb0.60Ca0.40)ZrO3 were prepared by coprecipitation reaction of Pb(NO3)2, ZrOCl2, and CaCl2 with (NH4)2CO3 and NH4OH in aqueous solution. The (Pb1-xCax)ZrO3 with different x mole fractions (x=0.35, 0.37) showed not only high dielectric constant, but also high Q values and low temperature coefficient of the capacitance.

  • In this paper, the structure, dieletric and piezoelectric properties of Pb(Fe$_{\frac{1}{2}}$/Sb$_{\frac{1}{2}}$$O_3$+ Pb(Zr$_{0.52}$ Ti$_{0.48}$ )O$_3$system ceramics were investigated and the effects of donor Nb$^{+5}$ on these properties were characterized for the application of the actuator. In xPb(Fe$_{\frac{1}{2}}$Sb$_{\frac{1}{2}}$)O$_3$+ (1-x) Pb(Zr$_{0.52}$ Ti$_{0.48}$ )O$_3$system ceramics, tetragonality decreased as x and Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ wt% were increased. In 0.05Pb(Fe$_{\frac{1}{2}}$Sb$_{\frac{1}{2}$}$)O$_3$+ 0.95 Pb(Zr$_{0.52}$ Ti$_{0.48}$ )O$_3$system, grain size was smallest but showed best dielectric and piezoelectric properties. The specimen sintered at 120$0^{\circ}C$ in 0.05pb(Fe$_{\frac{1}{2}}$Sb$_{\frac{1}{2}}$ )O$_3$+ 0.95 Pb(Zr$_{0.52}$ Ti$_{0.48}$ )O$_3$+ Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ 0.6wt% exihibited best piezoeletric properties such as $K^{p}$ =64%, d$_{33}$ =490 [$\times$10$^{-12}$ C/N] and strain was 1320[$\times$10$^{-6}$ Δ$\ell$/$\ell$]at AC 6kV/cm

Characteristics of the PbO-Bi2O3-B2O3-ZnO-SiO2 Glass System Doped with Pb Metal Filler (Pb 금속필러가 첨가된 PbO-Bi2O3-B2O3-ZnO-SiO2계 유리의 특성)

  • We investigated the effect of Pb-metal filler added to a hybrid paste(PbO-$Bi_2O_3-B_2O_3$-ZnO glass frit and Pb-powder), for joining flip-chip sat lower temperatures than normal. The glass transition temperature was detected at $250^{\circ}C$ and the softening point occurred at $330^{\circ}C$. As the temperature increased, the specific density decreased due to the volatility of the Pb-metal and boron component in the glass. When the glass was heat-treated at $350^{\circ}C$ for 5 min, XRD results revealed a crystalline $Pb_4Bi_3B_7O_{19}$ phase that had been initiated by the addition of Pb-filler in the hybrid paste. The addition of the Pb-metal filler caused are action between the Pb-metal and glass that accelerated the formation of the liquid phase. The liquid phase that formed, promoted bonding between the flip-chip substrate sat lower temperature.

The Effect of ZnO Addition on the Electric Properties and Microstructure of $Pb(Mn_{1/3}Sb_{2/3})O_3-Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$Ceramics ($Pb(Mn_{1/3}Sb_{2/3})O_3-Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$계 세라믹스의 전기적 특성과 미세구조에 미치는 ZnO 첨가영향)

  • Microstructure and electrical properties of ZnO-doped (0-5 mol%) 0.05 Pb(Mn1/3Sb2/3)O3-0.95 PZT ceramics were investigated. Sintering temperature was decreased to 100$0^{\circ}C$ due to eutetic reaction between PbO and ZnO. Grain-size increased up to adding 1mol% ZnO and then decreased. Compositions of grain and grain-boundary were investigated by WDS. Lattice parameter was decreased with ZnO addition. Density increased with ZnO addition and reached to the maximum of 7.84(g/cm2) at 2 mol% ZnO. The effect of ZnO on electrical properties of PMS-PZT was investigated. At 3mol% ZnO addition electromechanical coupling factor(kp) was about 50% and relative dielectric constant($\varepsilon$33/$\varepsilon$0) was 997 Mechanical quality factor(Qm) decreased with ZnO addition. Lattice parameters and tetragonality(c/a) were measured to investigate relationship between the electric properties and substitution of Zn2+. At 3 mol% ZnO tetragonality was maximiged at c/a=1.0035 Curie temperature (Tc) decreased slightly with ZnO addition.
