To get the basic information for the improvement of the optimum levels of upland soil fertility and fertilizer application, the soil samples in two hundred fifteen site were collected from the major condiment vegetable cultivation areas such as red pepper, garlic and onion fields. Physico-chemical properties of the soil samples were investigated. Soil texture distribution of soil samples in red pepper, garlic and onion cultivation areas was in order of loam (L), sandy loam (SL), silt loam (SiL) and clay loam (CL) (35.4, 31.6, 14.9 and 7.0%, respectively). The average pH of soil in garlic and onion cultivation areas were over pH 6.0, whereas in red pepper was under pH 5.5. The frequency distribution of soil pH in total sampling sites were 58.7% in under pH 6.0 and 21.4% in below pH 5.0, in contrast to 10.3% in over pH 7.0. The organic matter contents were in the range of $20{\sim}30g\;kg^{-1}$, and the onion field soils was a little higher than those in red pepper or garlic. The available phosphate contents were in the range of $719{\sim}746mg\;kg^{-1}$ and were not different among in red pepper, garlic and onion. The frequency distribution of available phosphate in total sampling sites were found 62.8% of above $600mg\;kg^{-1}$, which was over the standard level for upland soil improvement, and then 22.3% was exceeded $1,000mg\;kg^{-1}$, especially. In the exchangeable cations, the K and Ca contents in garlic (1.27 and $9.11cmol\;kg^{-1}$) and onion (1.20 and $8.39cmol\;kg^{-1}$) were higher than in red pepper (0.96 and $5.87cmol\;kg^{-1}$), respectively. The Mg contents in garlic field soils ($2.17cmol\;kg^{-1}$) were higher than those in red pepper and onion (1.51 and $1.80cmol\;kg^{-1}$). This exchangeable K, Ca and Mg contents were higher than the standard level for upland soil improvement. The contents of microelement were ranged in $54.3{\sim}60.1mg\;kg^{-1}$ for Fe, $31.3{\sim}42.3mg\;kg^{-1}$ for Mn, $1.7{\sim}2.3mg\;kg^{-1}$ for Cu and $4.8{\sim}5.5mg\;kg^{-1}$ for Zn, respectively.
The purposes of this study are to evaluate the Korean mandibular dental arch and classify the mandibular dental arch shape and size based on the incisal angle, canine angle, inter second molar width and height. In this study the mandibular study models were fabricated using irreversible hydrocolloid impression material from 225 volunteers with a mean age 23.62 (range 19-29). And the study models were measured with 3-dimensional measuring device and the mandibular dental arch was classified by means of K-means clustering method and visual inspection, then obtained data were analyzed with t-test for the statistical analysis. The results were as follows ; 1. The average canine height was 5.19mm(s.d. 1.17) in both sex, 5.34mm in male, and 4.95mnm in female. And the sexual difference was significant($0
). 2. The average second molar height was 39.81mm(s.d. 2.44) in both sex, 40.19mm in male, and 39.21mm in female. And the sexual difference was significant($0
). 3. The average inter-canine width was 27.16mm(s.d. 1.78) in both sex, 27.41mm in male, and 26.77mm in female. And the sexual difference was significant($0
). 4. The average inter-first molar width was 46.93mm(s.d. 2.67) in both sex, 47.72mm in male, and 45.7mm in female. And the sexual difference was significant($0
). 5. The inter-second molar width was average 56.09mm(s.d. 3.01) in both sex, 57.24mm in male, and 54.32mn in woma. And the sexual difference was significant($0
). 6. The arch form was classified into three shapes based on the incisal and canine angle. V-shape showed $124.88^{\circ}$ of incisal angle and $141.64^{\circ}$ of canine angle, U-shape showed $152.76^{\circ}\;and\;125.35^{\circ}$, and O-shape showed $138.03^{\circ}\;and \;33.66^{\circ}$ respectively. Each shape distribution was that the V-shape was 14.2%, the U-Shape was 14.7%, and the O-shape was 71.1% of the 225 study models. 7. It was thought that the use of second molar width is more reasonable than height for classifying the dental arch size. The arch size was classified into four sizes based on the second molar width. Size 1 showed range of 42.24-48.23mm, size 2 showed 48.24-54.23mm, size 3 showed 54.24-60.23mm, and size 4 showed 60.24-66.23mm respectively. Each arch size distribution was that the size 1 was 1.3%, the size 2 was 27.1%, the size 3 was 63.6%, and the size 4 was 8.0% of the 225 study models.

Nanomaterials have considerable potential to solve several key challenges in various electrochemical devices, such as fuel cells. However, the use of nanoparticles in high-temperature devices like solid-oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) is considered problematic because the nanostructured surface typically prepared by deposition techniques may easily coarsen and thus deactivate, especially when used in high-temperature redox conditions. Herein we report the synthesis of a self-regenerated Pd metal nanoparticle on the perovskite oxide anode surface for SOFCs that exhibit self-recovery from their degradation in redox cycle and $CH_4$ fuel running. Using Pd-doped perovskite, $La(Sr)Fe(Mn,Pd)O_3$, as an anode, fairly high maximum power densities of 0.5 and $0.2cm^{-2}$ were achieved at 1,073 K in $H_2$ and $CH_4$ respectively, despite using thick electrolyte support-type cell. Long-term stability was also examined in $CH_4$ and the redox cycle, when the anode is exposed to air. The cell with Pd-doped perovskite anode had high tolerance against re-oxidation and recovered the behavior of anodic performance from catalytic degradation. This recovery of power density can be explained by the surface segregation of Pd nanoparticles, which are self-recovered via re-oxidation and reduction. In addition, self-recovery of the anode by oxidation treatment was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

For 63 soil series distributed in Jeju Island, natural uncultivated soils in each soil series were collected, and their physicochemical properties and their concentrations of 19 heavy metals including 8 heavy metals which are regulated by Korean Soil Environment Conservation Law, were analyzed. Moreover, the correlations between physicochemical properties and heavy metal concentrations, and between heavy metal concentrations were analyzed. The heavy metals distributed in the higher concentrations and the lower concentrations with arithmetric mean value, were Mn(730 mg/kg) and Ba(493 mg/kg), and Hg(0.146 mg/kg) and Tl(0.096 mg/kg), respectively. The correlations between pH($H_2O$) and heavy metals(Hg, Ni, Co, Se), between pH(NaF) and heavy metals(Hg, Ba, Se, Tl), and between organic matter content and heavy metals(Hg, Tl) were significant at the 0.01 level. From the correlations between heavy metal concentrations, there were 22 where there were significant at the 0.01 level and they showed positive correlation. Among those, the heavy metals showing the correlation higher than r=0.5, were Sb-V(0.878), Mo-Sn(0.867), Co-V(0.654), Co-Sb(0.648), Be-Sn(0.546), and Sn-Tl(0.528).
Aluminium nitride(AlN) is currently under investigation as potential candidate for replacing alumium oxide(Al$_{2}$$O_{3}$) as a substrate material for for electronic circuit packaging. Brazing of aluminium nitride(AlN) to Cu with Ag base active alloy containing Ti has been investigated in vacuum. Binary Ag$_{98}$$Ti_{2}$(AT) and ternary At-1wt.%Al(ATA), AT-1wt.%Ni(ATN), AT-1wt.% Mn(ATM) alloys showed good wettability to AlN and led to the development of strong bond between brate alloy and AlN ceramic. The reaction between AlN and the melted brazing alloys resulted in the formation of continuous TiN layers at the AlN side iterface. This reaction layer was found to increase by increase by increasing brazing time and temperature for all filler metals. The bond strength, measured by 4-point bend test, was increased with bonding temperature and showed maximum value and then decreased with temperature. It might be concluded that optimum thickness of the reaction layer was existed for maximum bond strength. The joint brazed at 900.deg.C for 1800sec using binary AT alloy fractured at the maximum load of 35kgf which is the highest value measured in this work. The failure of this joint was initiated at the interface between AlN and TiN layer and then proceeded alternately through the interior of the reaction layer and AlN ceramic itself.
This study was aimed at testing the gene expression of antioxidant enzymes and apoptosis genes for in vitro culture in porcine embryos produced by in vitro maturation/in vitro fertilization (IVM/IVF). Pocine preimplantation embryos obtainted from IVM/IVF can be successfully culture in vitro, but they are delayed or stop to develop at specific developmental stage. Many factors such as reactive oxygen species and apoptosis in an IVM/IVF system followed by in vitro culture influence the rate of production of viable blastocysts. Porcine embryos derived from IVM/IVF were cultured in the atmosphere of 5% $CO_2$ and 20% $O_2$ at $38.5^{\circ}C$ in NCSU23 medium. The patterns of gene expression for antioxidant enzymes and apoptosis genes during in vitro culture in pocine IVM/IVF embryos were examined by the modified semi-quantitative single cell reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Porcine embryos produced by in vitro procedures were expressed mRNAs for CuZn-SOD, GAPDH and GPX, whereas transcripts for Mn-SOD and catalase were not detected at any developmental stages. Expression of caspase-3 mRNA was detected at 2 cell, 8 cell 16 cell and blastocyst, but p53 mRNA was not detected at any stages. The fas transcripts was only detected in blastocyst stage. These results suggest that various antioxidant enzymes and apoptosis genes play crucial roles in vitro culture of porcine IVM/IVF embryos.
In the present study, we isolated a new bacterial strain producing invertase (EC 3.2.1.26) and determined optimized culture condition in flask culture. The strain was identified as Bacilus flexus determined by the 16S rDNA sequencing method. The invertase was produced only in the sucrose medium as the sole carbon source. Potassium nitrate was an adequate nitrogen source for enzyme production, whereas meat peptone showed the highest bacterial growth. Enzyme production was increased about 2-fold when $MgSO_4\cdot7H_2O$ was supplemented to the growth media. The optimum temperature was found to be $30^{\circ}C$ for both enzyme production and bacterial growth. Invertase exhibited pH optima in the range 5.0-6.0 and have a temperature optimum at $40^{\circ}C$, similarly to other invertases found from different microbial sources. Several mineral ions (K and Fe) stimulated the invertase activity, whereas some bioelements (Ag, Mg, and Mn) inhibited enzyme activity. Under the optimized culture condition, the maximum enzyme production (over 250 units/mL) was achieved at 20 h. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time to report on invertase production by Bacilus flexus.
This study was carried out to estimate mineral contents of some underground vegetables including potatoes, sweet-potatoes, carrots, radishes, onions, and garlics produced in Korea using ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry). According to the measurements, the contents of Na, Mg, Al, K, Ca, Mn, Fe, Zn, and P in Korean underground vegetables were variable depending upon producing areas and individual plants. Compared with other underground vegetables, the contents of Na in carrots and lotus roots were quite high. The contents of Cd, Ag Co. and Sr appeared to be below hazard levels. It is expected that this study can be used to calculate the mineral intake from underground vegetables.
Composite cathodes of $50/50\;vol\%$ LSM-YSZ $(La_{-x}Sr_xMnO_3-yttria\;stabilized\;zirconia)$ were deposited onto dense YSZ electrolytes by colloidal deposition technique. The cathode characteristics were then examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and studied by ac-impedance spectroscopy (IS). The conditioning effects on LSM-YSZ cathodes were seen and remedies for these effects were noted in order to improve the performance of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). The effects of temperature on impedance, surface contamination on cathode bonding to YSZ electrolyte, changing Pt paste, aerosol spray technique applied to curved surface on microstructure and cell to cell variability were solved by testing at $900^{\circ}C$, sanding the YSZ surface, using only one batch of Pt paste, using flat YSZ plates and using consistent procedures and techniques, respectively. And then, reproducible impedance spectra were confirmed by using the improved cell and the typical spectra measured for an (air)LSM-YSZ/YSZ/LSM-YSZ(air) cell at $900^{\circ}C$ were composed of two depressed arcs. Impedance characteristics of the LSM-YSZ cathodes were also affected by experimental conditions such as catalytic interlayer, composite cathode compositions and applied current.
To study the effects of chemical and organic fertilizer within the contents of essential elements in the lettuce, in the absence or presence of wood extraction, an experiment was conducted for a period of 10 weeks. The results obtained from the experiment are summarized as follows: 1. The iron contents in the lettuce grown in the chemical fertilized group, were different from those in the organic fertilized group, when the wood extraction was treated. The iron contents in the lettuce increased, due to the wood vinegar treatments, but the modes and degrees were not consistent the various kinds of lettuce. 2. Calcium contents in the lettuce were also increased by wood vinegar treatments, but the modes and degrees were not consistent with the various kinds of lettuce. On the other hand, the Calcium contents in the lettuce grown in the organic fertilized group were reduced by the wood vinegar treatments. 3. The mineral contents within other elements(Manganese, Copper, Zinc) in lettuce, is not variable according to the treatments, or the species of the lettuce.
