  • Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) provide high-speed backbone networks without any wired cable. Many researchers have tried to increase network throughput by using multi-channel and multi-radio interfaces. A multi-radio multi-channel WMN requires channel assignment algorithm to decide the number of channels needed for each link. Since the channel assignment affects routing and interference directly, it is a critical component for enhancing network performance. However, the optimal channel assignment is known as a NP complete problem. For high performance, most of previous works assign channels in a centralized manner but they are limited in being applied for dynamic network environments. In this paper, we propose a simple flow estimation algorithm and a hybrid channel assignment algorithm. Our flow estimation algorithm obtains aggregated flow rate information between routers by packet sampling, thereby achieving high scalability. Our hybrid channel assignment algorithm initially assigns channels in a centralized manner first, and runs in a distributed manner to adjust channel assignment when notable traffic changes are detected. This approach provides high scalability and high performance compared with existing algorithms, and they are confirmed through extensive performance evaluations.

  • Gintonin, a novel, ginseng-derived G protein-coupled lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) receptor ligand, elicits $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ transients in neuronal and non-neuronal cells via pertussis toxin-sensitive and pertussis toxin-insensitive G proteins. The slowly activating delayed rectifier $K^+$ ($I_{Ks}$) channel is a cardiac $K^+$ channel composed of KCNQ1 and KCNE1 subunits. The C terminus of the KCNQ1 channel protein has two calmodulin-binding sites that are involved in regulating $I_{Ks}$ channels. In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanisms of gintonin-mediated activation of human $I_{Ks}$ channel activity by expressing human $I_{Ks}$ channels in Xenopus oocytes. We found that gintonin enhances $I_{Ks}$ channel currents in concentration- and voltage-dependent manners. The $EC_{50}$ for the $I_{Ks}$ channel was $0.05{\pm}0.01{\mu}g/ml$. Gintonin-mediated activation 1 of the $I_{Ks}$ channels was blocked by an LPA1/3 receptor antagonist, an active phospholipase C inhibitor, an $IP_3$ receptor antagonist, and the calcium chelator BAPTA. Gintonin-mediated activation of both the $I_{Ks}$ channel was also blocked by the calmodulin (CaM) blocker calmidazolium. Mutations in the KCNQ1 $[Ca^{2+}]_i$/CaM-binding IQ motif sites (S373P, W392R, or R539W)blocked the action of gintonin on $I_{Ks}$ channel. However, gintonin had no effect on hERG $K^+$ channel activity. These results show that gintonin-mediated enhancement of $I_{Ks}$ channel currents is achieved through binding of the $[Ca^{2+}]_i$/CaM complex to the C terminus of KCNQ1 subunit.

  • A simple multi-channel spectrum analyzer using an InGaAs array sensor and a diffraction grating is proposed and developed for high-capacity optical transport networks. With the developed multichannel spectrum analyzer, we could measure signal power, wavelength, and optical signal-to-noise ratio of each channel for multi-channel optical signals with 100 GHz and 50 GHz channel spacing, simultaneously. We could measure each channel power and wavelength with a deviation of less than 0.2 dB and 0.063 nm, respectively. We have obtained optical signal-to-noise ratio with a deviation of less than 1.0 dB compared with conventional optical spectrum analyzer in the wide input power range between -42 dBm and -27 dBm per channel.

  • In this paper, the capacity of MIMO fading channel in the OFDM-based spatial multiplexing systems is analyzed when there is scattering at both transmitter and receiver. The employed MIMO channel model is spanning from the correlated low-rank case to uncorrelated high-rank case at both transmitter and receiver. The effects of spatial fading correlation on the capacity of MIMO channel is examined when the channel is known and unknown at the transmitter. We also evaluate the impacts of a channel estimation error at the transmitter on the MIMO channel capacity.

  • In this study, we took the geometrical character of the river channel junction and hydrologic conditions as independent variables, and hydraulic behavior characteristics as an independent variable. The result, after multiple analysis was carried out, proved that, except for the generating area of the accelerating zone of velocity the accelerating zone and both the main channel and the tributary zone of stagnation the stagnation zone, there was correlation of over 90%. Also, derived presumed expression of the hydraulic characteristics of the junction was applied to the real natural channel - the river channel of the Guem-ho main channel(the A-yang bridge to the Guem-ho bridge). As the result, it proved that it represented hydraulic characteristics relatively well.

  • This paper describes two methods - stamp-to-stick bonding and microtransfer molding - to integrate microfluidic channel into an optoelectrofluidic device for in-channel microparticle manipulation. We have demonstrated the optoelectronic microparticle manipulation in the channel-integrated optoelectrofluidic device using a liquid crystal display. As injecting a liquid sample containing $15{\mu}m$-diameter polystyrene particles into the fabricated channel, trapping and transport of individual microparticles have been successfully demonstrated. This channel-integrated optoelectrofluidic device may be useful for several in-channel applications based on the optoelectrofluidics such as optoelectronic flow control, droplet-based protein assay and bead-based immunoassay.

  • In this study, a hybrid genetic algorithm merged with simulated annealing is presented to solve nonlinear channel blind equalization problems. The equalization of nonlinear channels is more complicated one, but it is of more practical use in real world environments. The proposed hybrid genetic algorithm with simulated annealing is used to estimate the output states of nonlinear channel, based on the Bayesian likelihood fitness function, instead of the channel parameters. By using the desired channel states derived from these estimated output states of the nonlinear channel, the Bayesian equalizer is implemented to reconstruct transmitted symbols. In the simulations, binary signals are generated at random with Gaussian noise. The performance of the proposed method is compared with those of a conventional genetic algorithm(GA) and a simplex GA. In particular, we observe a relatively high accuracy and fast convergence of the method.

  • We used the non-reversible hierarchical scheme and the fixed channel assignment scheme for the strategy of call processing at hierarchical cellular system. We analyzed the performance of system according to the number of channel assigned at macrocell out of the usable channel at global system. Microcell is assigned the channel excepted the channel assigned at macrocell. The more the channel was aigned at macrocell, the more decreased the blocking probability became. The blocking probability of microcell had similar trend.

  • Multi-radio multi-channel Wireless Mesh Network requires an effective management policy to control the assignment of channels to each radio. We concentrated our investigation on modeling method and solution to find a dynamic channel assignment scheme that is adapted to change of network traffic. Multi-path routing scheme was chosen to overwhelm the unreliability of wireless link. For a particular traffic state, our optimization model found a specific traffic distribution over multi-path and a channel assignment scheme that maximizes the overall network throughput. We developed a simple heuristic method for channel assignment by gradually removing clique load to obtain higher throughput. We also presented numerical examples and discussion of our models in comparison with existing research.

  • In digital mobile communication system, the transmission errors affect the quality of output speech seriously. There are many error concealment techniques using a posteriori probability which provides information about any transmitted parameter. They need knowledge about channel transition probability as well as the 1st order Markov transition probability of codec parameters for estimation of transmitted parameters. However, in applications of mobile communication systems, the channel transition probability varies depending on nonstationary channel characteristics. The mismatch of designed channel transition probability of the estimator to actual channel transition probability degrades the performance of the estimator. In this paper, we proposed a new parameter estimator which adapts to the channel characteristics using short time average of maximum a posteriori probabilities(MAPs). The proposed scheme, when applied to the LSP parameter estimation, performed better than the conventional estimator which do not adapt to the channel characteristics.
