The crystallization of amorphous Ba-ferrite/sapphire(001) thin films was studied in real-time synchrotron x-ray scattering experiments. In the sputter-grown amorphous films, we found the existence of epitaxial $Fe_3O_4$ interfacial crystallites (50-${\AA}$-thick), well aligned $[0.03^circ$full-width at half-maximum (FWHM)] to the sapphire [001] direction. The amorphous precursor was crystallized to epitaxial Ba-ferrite and \alpha-Fe_2O_3$grains in two steps; i) the nucleation of crystalline \alpha-Fe_2O_3$ phase started at $300^circ{C}$ together with the transformation of the $Fe_3O_4$ crystallites to the \alpha-Fe_2O_3$ crystallites, ii) the nucleation of Ba-ferrite phase occurred at temperature above $600^circ{C}$. In the crystallized films irrespective of the film thickness, the crystal domain size of the \alpha-Fe_2O_3$grains was about 250 ${\AA}$ in the film plane, similar to that of the Ba-ferrite grains.
Joining of $Si_3N_4$ to $Si_3N_4$ with crystallized glass solder was studied. $SiO_2-Al_2O_3-MgO$ glass with $P_2O_5$ as a crystallizing reagent was used as a solder. To improve the hish temperature toughness of joined specimen, two stage heat treatment was applied to Joined sample for the crystallization of joined layer, Two factors, i.e. thickness of soldered layer and crystallization were taken and thier effects on joining strength were investigated by a SEM-EDX observation of joined interface and bending strength both at room and elevated temperatures. Obtained results are summarized as follows: (1) Nitrogen diffused from $Si_3N_4$ to solder during the Joining process. Average amount of nitrogen in soldered layer depended on the thickness of the soldered layer and increased with decrease of the thickness. (2) Joining strength of the specimen having a thinner soldered layer was stronger than that of thicker layer. This can be mainly attributed to the difference of the nitrogen content in the soldered layer. (3) Higher content of nitrogen in solder brought forth higher viscosity of the solder. Hence the crystallization of the solder become more difficult in thinner layer of the solder than thicker one. (4) Thus, the effect of crystallization was evaluated mostly by the thicker layer specimen. Crystallization of soldered layer improved markedly the fracure strength of joining at higher temperatures than the softening temperature of glass solder.
We demonstrate a fabrication of an atomically controlled single-crystal heart-shaped nanostructure using a convergent electron beam in a scanning transmission electron microscope. The delicately controlled e-beam enable epitaxial crystallization of perovskite oxide LaAlO3 grown out of the relative conductive interface (i.e. 2 dimensional electron gas) between amorphous LaAlO3/crystalline SrTiO3.
The effect of deposition paratmeters on the solid-phase crystallization of amorphous silicon films deposited by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition has been investigated by x-ray diffraction. The amorphous silicon films were prepared on Si(100) wafers using SiH4 gas with and without H2 dilution at the substrate temperatures between 12$^{\circ}C$ and 38$0^{\circ}C$. The R. F. powers and the deposition pressures were also varied. After crystallizing at $600^{\circ}C$ for 24h, the films exhibited (111), (220), and (311) x-ray diffraction peaks. The (111) peak intensity increased as the substrate temperature decreased, and the H dilution suppressed the crystallization. Increasing R.F. powers within the limits of etching level and increasing deposition pressures also have enhanced the peak intensity. The peak intensity was closely related to the deposition rate, which may be an indirect indicator of structural disorder in amorphous silicon films. Our results are consistent with the fact that an increase of the structural disorder I amorphous silicon films enhances the grain size in the crystallized films.

We report some recent results in the rewritable Blu-ray Disc with enhanced overwrite cyclability by using the growth dominant eutectic based Ge(Sb70Te30)+Sb recording layer, GeN interface layer and write strategy optimization. We have developed phase-change optical media with appropriate write strategy for 36(i.e., 1X)-72Mbps(i.e., 2X) dual speed Blu-ray Disc system and fur the future high speed optical data storage. For recording layer, eutectic-based Ge(Sb70Te30)+Sb material was used and Sb/Te ratio and Ge content were optimized to obtain proper erasability and archival stability of recorded amorphous marks. The recording layer is wrapped up in GeN interface layers to obtain overwrite cyclability and higher crystallization speed. In addition, we designed appropriate write strategy so called Time-Shifted Multipulse (TSMP) write strategy where starting position of multipulse parts are shined from reference clock. With this write strategy, the jitter characteristics of the disc was improved and we found that leading edge jitter was improved much more than trailing edge jitter in 1X-2X speed recording. Finally, we investigated the higher speed feasibility of 144Mbps(i.e., 4X) by adopting some elemental doping to the eutectic based Ag-In-Sb-Te recording layer and structural optimization of constitution layers in Blu-ray Disc. In the paper, we report the effect of Sn addition for the feasibility of higher speed recording. The addition of Sn shows increases of the crystallization speed of phase change recording layer.
Carbonation (step I) and cryo-crystallization (crystallization at low temperature) (step II) were performed to synthesize Na compounds from sodium concentrated solution. In the step 1, the solubility and pH of carbon dioxide (95 wt.%) affecting carbonation could be changed by the variation of reaction temperature. The step II was performed at 2 ℃ after carbonation. The injection of carbon dioxide was carried out twice for the stable production and the saturated solubility of carbonate ions in solution. Firstly, we tried to inject CO2 for controlling the solubility of CO2 by changing the reaction temperature from 35 ℃ to 10 ℃, and the second injection was aimed at 10 ℃ for inducing nucleation of Na compound through carbonation after NaCl solution addition. In the cryo-crystallization step, the crystal growth of Na compounds could be induced by slowing the carbonation rate through reaction temperature change from 10 ℃ to 2 ℃. In this study, the effect on NaOH concentration was examined and the purity of Na compound was increased when 2M NaOH was used. In addition, the synthesized Na compounds were mostly rod-shaped and consisted of sodium carbonate or sodium carbonate with monohydrate.

Single crystal of organic lead halide ($CH_3NH_3PbX_3$; $CH_3NH^+_3$ = methylammonium (MA), $X=Cl^-$, $Br^-$, $I^-$) is the best candidate for material intrinsic property studies due to no grain boundary and high crystal quality than the film having a lot of grain boundary and surface defects. The representative crystallization methods are inverse temperature crystallization (ITC) and anti-solvent vapor assisted crystallization (AVC). Herein, we report bandgap modulated organic lead halide single crystals having a bandgap ranging from ~ 2.1 eV to ~ 3 eV with ITC and AVC methods. The bandgap modulation was achieved by controlling the solvents and chloride-to-bromide ratio. Structural, optical and compositional properties of prepared crystals were characterized. The results show that the crystals synthesized by the two crystallization methods have similar properties, but the halide ratios in the crystals synthesized by the AVC method are controlled more quantitatively than the crystals synthesized by ITC.
The changes of properties were studied for the polypropylene(PP)/Nylon6 blends containing different kinds of compatibilizer made by either reactive extrusion of solution reaction. The compatibilizers were PP grafted with maleic anhydride (MAH) made by reactive extrusion and solution reaction. The grafted MAH contents were 0.3 wt %, and 2.7 wt %, respectively. The composition of the PP/nylon6 blend was fixed at 75/25 by weight. Blending was carried out with twin-screw extruder (L/D=30, ${\psi}=30$) at 300 rpm. As the content of PP-g-MAH was increased, the crystallization peak of Nylon6 decreased gradually then finally disappeared. Disappearance of crystallization peak of Nylon6 was mostly affected by grafted MAH content rather than the preparation method and the amount of compatibilizer. The portion of Nylon6 that could not crystallize in its normal crystallization temperature crystallized together with PP at the crystallization temperature of PP. So called concurrent crystallization was observed. Meanwhile two more peaks were observed during heating cycle. One was exothermic peak at $193^{\circ}C$ near to crystallization temperature of Nylon6, the other was endothermic peak at $215^{\circ}C$ that was $5^{\circ}C$ lower than normal endothermic peak of Nylon6. To analyze the peaks, nylon6 was annealed in the differential scanning calorimeter. As a result, the peak at $193^{\circ}C$ was crystallization peak of imperfect crystalline of Nylon6 and the other peak at $215^{\circ}C$ was melting peak of imperfect crystalline of nylon6.

The crystallization behaviours of nanocomposite made by a function of quenching rate (roller speed) were studied. The results showed that there was one step c$\mathbb{r}$ystallization process for the alloy quenched at roller speed of 32 m/s, which could be shown as, Am (amorphouse) + ${\alpha}-Fe/Nd_2Fe_{14}B$${\rightarrow}$${\alpha}-Fe/Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ . For the alloy quenched at roller speed of 40 m/s, there was steps crystallization process taking place at different temperatures, which could be shown as, Am ${\rightarrow}$${\alpha}-Fe/Nd_2Fe_{23}B_3+Nd_2Fe_{14}B+Am`$${\rightarrow}$${\alpha}-Fe/Nd_2Fe_{14}B$. The presence of transition phase ($Nd_2Fe_{23}B_3$) was harmful to get fine and uniform grain size during crystallization process. Uniform microstructures and high magnetic properties could be attained for the as-quenched alloy containing less amorphous phase and no presence of transition phase during annealing treatment. For the alloy prepared at roller speed of 32 m/s, the following properties were obtained, $B_r= 0.904 T,_iH_c = 801 kA/m, (BH)_{max} = 122 kJ/m^3 and M_r/M_s = 0.6$.

This study was performed to evaluate the feasibility of anaerobic pretreatment for the leachate solubilized from thermal hydrolysis of sewage sludge cake. Overall process for the treatment of sludge cake consists of thermal hydrolysis, crystallization of magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate (MAP) for the leachate and anaerobic digestion of supernatant from MAP crystallization. The experimental evidence showed that the optimum ratio of Mg : P for the struvite crystallization of leachate solubilized from thermal hydrolysis of sludge cake was 1.5 to 1.0 as weight basis at the pH of 9.5. With this operational condition, the removal efficiencies of ammonia nitrogen and phosphorous achieved 50% and 97%, respectively. The mesophilic batch test showed that the ultimate biodegradability of the supernatant from MAP crystallization reached 63% at S/I ratio of 0.5. The readily biodegradable fraction of 90% ($S_1$) of the MAP supernatant BVS (Biodegradable Volatile Solids, $S_0$) degraded with $k_1$ of $0.207day^{-1}$ for the initial 17 days where as the rest slowly biodegradable fraction ($S_2$) of 10% of BVS degraded with $k_2$ of $0.02day^{-1}$ for the rest of the operational period. Semi-Continuously Fed and Mixed Reactor (SCFMR) was chosen as one of the best candidates to treat the MAP supernatant because of its total solids content over 6%. Maximum average biogas production rates reached 0.45 v/v-d and TVS removal efficiency of 37~41% was achieved at an hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 20 days and its corresponding organic loading rate (OLR) of 1.43 g VS/L-d.
