Nanosized cobalt disulfide ($CoS_2$) particles were synthesized with 0.08 M cobalt chloride hexahydrate ($CoCl_2{\cdot}6H_2O$) and 0.2 M sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate ($Na_2S_2O_3{\cdot}5H_2O$) dissolved in distilled water under microwave irradiation. $[C_{60}]Fullerene-CoS_2$ nanocomposites were prepared with nanosized $CoS_2$ particles and [$C_{60}$]fullerene as heated by $700^{\circ}C$ for 2 h in an electric furnace. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) identified the heated $[C_{60}]fullerene-CoS_2$ nanocomposites. Heated $[C_{60}]fullerene-CoS_2$ nanocomposites were investigated the activity of photocatalytic degradation as a catalyst in various organic dyes like acid yellow 23, methylene blue, methyl orange, and rhodamine B with ultraviolet light at 254 nm by UV-vis spectrophotometer.

Polynitro fullerenes were synthesized by reaction C-60 in benzen solution with a mixture of NaNO$_2$ and HNO$_3$. Hydrolysis of polynitro fullerenes in aqueous NaOH gave the corresponding polyhydroxylated fullerenes. Sulfonation reaction was carried out in pyridine solution of ClSO$_3$H. Infrared spectra of the resultant fullerene derivatives showed the characteristic IR bands, corresponding to absorptions of O-H, N-O, and SO$_3$Na functions. Electric resistivity and thermal transmittance of wool fiber absorbed with the water-soluble C-60 were investigated. Thermal transmittances of wool fiber were increased with increasing water-soluble C-60 concentrations, but electric conductivity were decreased with raising water-soluble C-60 uptake values.
(+)-Catechin inhibited the growth and induced the differentiation of HL-60 human leukimia cells. The degree of a differentiation by (+)-catechin during the differentiation, the expression assay, To understand the molecular mechanism of (+)-catechin during the differentiation, the expression level of oncogenes was detected by Northern blot analysis. c-Myc mRNA level was reduced after treatment with (+)-Catechin (10-4), however, the expression of c-jun was increased with a concentration dependent manner in HL-60 cells. These results showed that the differentiation and antiproliferation of HL-60 cells against (+)-Catechin was related to the reduction of c-myc and the induction of c-jun expression.

Organic photovoltaic effects were studied in a device structure of ITO/CuPc/Al and ITO/CuPc/$C_{60}$/BCP/Al. A thickness of CuPc layer was varied from 10 nm to 50 nm, we have obtained that the optimum CuPc layer thickness is around 40 nm from the analysis of the current density-voltage characteristics in CuPc single layer photovoltaic cell. From the thickness-dependent photovoltaic effects in CuPc/$C_{60}$ heterojunction devices, higher power conversion efficiency was obtained in ITO/20nm CuPc/40nm $C_{60}$/Al, which has a thickness ratio (CuPc:$C_{60}$) of 1:2 rather than 1:1 or 1:3. Light intensity on the device was measured by calibrated Si-photodiode and radiometer/photometer of International Light Inc(IL14004).

The effect of heat-shock treatment of soybean on the quality characteristics of soybean sprouts was investigated. Six groups of soybeans were heat-treated in 35, 40, 45$^{\circ}C$ for 60 and 120 min respectively and then cultivated by a standard method to measure growth parameters, rot ratio, color, vitamin C content and sensory characteristics. Soybean sprouts of 4$0^{\circ}C$/120 min treatment showed the higher weight, while 4$0^{\circ}C$/60 min sample showed thicker hypocotyl and longer cotyledon than the control. In both rot ratio and viable cell count, the lowest values were obtained in soybean sprouts of control and also in 4$0^{\circ}C$/60 min treated samples, while other heat-treated samples showed higher rot ratio and cell counts than the control. Heat treatment of soybean increased the lightness and decreased the yellowness of cotyledon of sprouts. Vitamin C contents of sprouts were increased by heat treatment. Sensory test showed that the heat treatment reduced benny odor and bitter taste but enhanced the nutty taste. Soybean sprouts of 4$0^{\circ}C$/60 min resulted in significantly higher scores in overall appearance and palatability than other samples.
In order to establish the optimum drying temperature of the heated air blast-grain circulation dryer, a 2 ton scale of paddy was used in this experiment. The temperatures of heated air used were 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 and $70^{\circ}C$. Moisture content of the paddy was reduced to 15% from 24% by drying. The higher air temperature, the shorter drying time and the less fuel consumed. The portion of cracked kernels was found to be low as $3{\sim}10%\;at\;40{\sim}55^{\circ}C$, but was very high to $28{\sim}30%\;at\;60{\sim}70^{\circ}C$. The germination percent was very high as 98 and 93% at 40 and $45^{\circ}C$, but it was decreased to 86 and 30% at 50 and $70^{\circ}C$, respectively. The recovery yield of milled rice from paddy was decreased by 1.76, 2.63 and 7.52% at 60, 65 and $70^{\circ}C$, respectively, compared with 75.86% as drying at $40^{\circ}C$. The higher heated air temperature, the less head rice of milled rice was recovered, and the decreased ratio was increased $60^{\circ}C$. The higher heated air temperature, the less alkali disintergation value and gel consistency of milled rice and the more water up take, expanded vlume, total solid in residual liquid and intensity of starch iodine blue value of residual liquid, and those tendency was found clear from $60^{\circ}C$ temperature of heated air.
Growth rates, photosystem II photosynthesis, and the levels of chlorophyll $\alpha$ and secondary metabolites of Chlorella ovalis were estimated to determine if they were enhanced by the addition of swine urine (BM) or cow compost water (EP) that had been fermented by soil bacteria to deep seawater (DSW) in an attempt to develop media that enabled batch mass culture at lower costs. Growth of C. ovalis in f/2, f/2-EDTA+BM60%, DSW+BM30%, and DSW+EP60% was enhanced and maintained in the log phase of growth for 16 days. The cell densities of C. ovalis in DSW+EP60% ($4.1{\times}10^6$ Cells/ml) were higher than those of f/2 ($2.9{\times}10^6$ Cells/ml), f/2-E+BM60% ($3.7{\times}10^6$ Cells/ml), and DSW+BM30% ($2.7{\times}10^6$ Cells/ml). The growth rate was also more favorable for C. ovalis cultured in DSW+EP60% ($0.15\;day^{-1}$) than that of C. ovalis cultured in the control medium (f/2) ($0.12\;day^{-1}$). Furthermore, the chlorophyll a concentration of C. ovalis cultured in DSW+EP60% (4.56 mg/l) was more than 2-fold greater than that of C. ovalis cultured in f/2 (2.35 mg/l). Moreover, the maximal quantum yields of photo system II at 470 nm (Fv/Fm) were significantly higher in organisms cultured at f/2-E+BM60% (0.53) and DSW+EP60% (0.52) than in the other treatment groups. Finally, Fourier transformation infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy revealed that C. ovalis grown in DSW+EP60% had more typical peaks and various biochemical pool shifts than those grown in other types of media. Taken together, the results of this study indicate that the use of DSW+EP60% to culture C. ovalis can reduce maintenance expenses and promote higher yields.

This study investigated the effects of green tea polyphenol and vitamin C on type 2 diabetes mellitus by administering polyphenon 60 (P60) and sodium ascorbate (SA) to diabetic rats induced by high fat diet/low-dose streptozotocin. The experimental group was divided into five different groups: non-diabetic control group (NC), diabetes control group (DC), diabetes+P60 group (DM+P60), diabetes+SA group (DM+SA), and diabetes+P60+SA group (DM+P60+SA). P60 and SA were dissolved in 0.1% drinking water. After P60 and SA were administered for 16 weeks, fasting blood glucose, plasma insulin, serum triglyceride, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and creatinine levels as well as kidney alkaline phosphatase (AP) and ${\gamma}$-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) activities were measured. Fasting blood glucose level increased 5-fold in the DC group compared to the NC group. In the DM+P60 group, fasting blood glucose level decreased by 14%. In the DM+P60+SA group, fasting blood glucose level decreased by 28% compared to the DC group, whereas the DM+SA group did not show any significant difference. The homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance index increased in the DC group and decreased in the DM+P60+SA group compared to the DC group. Serum creatinine level increased in the DC group, but decreased by 17% in the DM+P60 group and by 43% in the DM+P60+SA group compared to the DC group. The serum BUN level increased in the DC group, but decreased by 41% in the DM+P60+SA group compared to the DC group. Kidney GGT and AP activities decreased in the DC group compared to the NC group; however, they were reversed by DM+P60+SA group. These results show that combined administration of both green tea polyphenol and vitamin C had better effects on improving blood glucose level, insulin resistance, serum triglyceride level, and protecting kidneys than administration of either green tea polyphenol or vitamin C alone in the context of type 2 diabetes.
In this study, we examined the antioxidant activity of the Sumaeyaksuk (Artemisia argyi) tea extracts from different pre-treatment and extraction methods. Sumaeyaksuk was sun-dried for 3.5 days (control, RC) and aged at a temperature of $60^{\circ}C$ for 3.5 days (HA), 7 days (HB), and 14 days (HC), respectively. Each sample was extracted in $60^{\circ}C$ and $95^{\circ}C$ hot water for 2 minutes. The soluble solids content of HA from the $60^{\circ}C$and $95^{\circ}C$ hot water extraction were $0.52{\pm}0.18%$ and $0.92{\pm}0.18%$, respectively. The soluble solids content was increased by the higher extraction temperature. The reducing sugar content of RC was $9.55{\pm}0.18mg/g$ in the $95^{\circ}C$ extraction, which was significantly higher than in the $60^{\circ}C$ extracted sample. However, the reducing sugar content did not show a remarkable difference based on aging periods. The total phenolic compound content of the $95^{\circ}C$ extracted samples was $3.36{\pm}0.13{\sim}9.88{\pm}0.23mg/g$, which was significantly higher than that of the $60^{\circ}C$ extracted sample. The ABTS radical scavenging activity of the $60^{\circ}C$ extracted RA and HA samples were 35.63% and 95.10%, respectively. Moreover, the radical scavenging activity increased to 63.35% and 96.78%, respectively, in the $95^{\circ}C$ extracted samples. As a result of the high temperature, the extracted sample showed an increase in the FRAP. In the RC sample, the FRAP was two times higher in the $95^{\circ}C$ extracted sample ($181.28{\pm}2.90{\mu}M$) than in the $60^{\circ}C$ extracted sample ($83.88{\pm}0.43{\mu}M$).
$\alpha$-D-mannosyl fullerene[$C_{60}$]-functionalized gold nanoparticle films were selfassembled using the layer-by-layer method on the reactive of glass slides functionlized with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane. The functionalized glass slides were alternately soaked in the solutions containing $\alpha$-D-mannosyl fullerene[$C_{60}$] and 4-aminothiophenoxide/hexanethiolate-protected gold nanoparticles. $\alpha$-D-mannosyl fullerene[$C_{60}$]-functionalized gold nanoparticle films have grown up to 5 layers depending on the immersion time. The self-assembled nanoparticle films were characterized using UV-vis spectroscopy showed that the surface plasmon band of gold at 530 nm gradually became more evident as successive layers were added to the films.
