For the first time Aluminium-BariumeZinc oxide nanocomposite (ZABONC) was synthesized by solution combustion method where calcination was carried out at low temperatures (600℃) to study the electromagnetic (EM) (X/γ) radiation shielding properties. Further for characterization purpose standard techniques like PXRD, SEM, UV-VISIBLE, FTIR were used to find phase purity, functional groups, surface morphology, and to do structural analysis and energy band gap determination. The PXRD pattern shows (hkl) planes corresponding to spinel cubic phase of ZnAl2O4, cubic Ba(NO3)2, α and γ phase of Al2O3 which clearly confirms the formation of complex nano composite. From SEM histogram mean size of nano particles was calculated and is in the order of 17 nm. Wood and Tauc's relation direct energy band gap calculation gives energy gap of 2.9 eV. In addition, EM (X/γ) shielding properties were measured and compared with the theoretical ones using standard procedures (NaI (Tl) detector and multi channel analyzer MCA). For energy above 356 keV the measured shielding parameters agree well with the theory, while below this value slight deviation is observed, due to the influence of atomic/crystallite size of the ZABONC. Hence synthesized ZABONC can be used as a shielding material in EM (X/γ) radiation shielding.

The effect of several $SiO_2-B_2O_3-Al_2O_3$-R(R;Ca, Sr, Ba) borosilicate glass system on sintering behavior, dielectric properties and mechanical properties of glass/ceramic composites were investigated. The amount of '+2 valency' metal elements(Ca, Sr, Ba) were examined in LTCC composite of low k glass with cordierite filler. It was sintered for 60minutes in temperature range from 850C to 950. Properties of frit and glass/ceramic composites were analyzed by DTA, XRD, SEM, Network Analyzer, UTM and so on. Dielectric constant ($\varepsilon_r$) and $Q{\times}f_0$ (Q) of the composite with 50% glass contents demonstrated $\varepsilon_r$ = 5.4 $Q{\times}f_0$ = 1600 GHz. Sintering was complete and maximum bending strength of 160MPa was obtained.
Glass systems based on Ca, Sr, Ba, and Zn modified alumino-boro silicates were investigated in order to improve the dielectric and mechanical properties of a typical LTCC (low temperature co-fired ceramic) which was developed for high frequency highly-integrated modules. The glass was prepared by a typical melting procedure and then mixed with cordierite fillers to fabricate glass/ceramic composite-type LTCC materials. The amount of cordierite filler was fixed at 50 volumetric%. For an optimal glass composition of 7.5% CaO, 7.5% BaO, 5% ZnO, 10% $Al_2O_3$, 30% $B_2O_3$, and 40% $SiO_2$ in mole ratio, the resultant LTCC composite showed a dielectric constant of 5.8 and a dielectric loss ($tan{\delta}$) of 0.0009 after firing at $900^{\circ}C$. An average bending strength of 160MPa was obtained for the optimal composition.
The effects of lead-borosilicate glass frits on the sintering behavior and microwave dielectric properties of ceramic-glass composites were investigated as functions of glass composition of glass addition ($10{\sim}50vol%$), softening point (Ts) of the glass, and sintering temperature of the composites ($500{\sim}900^{\circ}C$ for 2 h). The addition of 50 vol% glass ensured successful sintering below $900^{\circ}C$. Sintering characteristics of the composites were well described in terms of Ts. PbO addition in to the glass enhanced the reaction with $Al_{2}O_3$ to form liquid phase and $PbAl_{2}Si_{2}O_8$, which was responsible to lower Ts. Dielectric constant(${\epsilon}_r$), $Q{\times}f_0$ and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (${\tau}_f$) of the composite with 50 vol% glass contents ($B_{2}O_{3}:PbO:SiO_{2}:CaO:Al_{2}O_3$ = 5:40:45:5:5) demonstrated 8.5, 6,000 GHz, $-70\;ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively, which is applicable to substrate requiring a low dielectric constant. When the same glass composition was applied sinter $MgTiO_3\;and\;TiO_2,\;at\;900^{\circ}C$ (50 vol% glass in total), the properties were 23.8, 4,000 GHz, $-65ppm/^{\circ}C$ and 31.1, 2,500 GHz, $+80ppm/^{\circ}C$ respectively, which is applicable to filter requiring an intermidiate dielectric constant.

The composites were fabricated respectively 61vo1.% $\beta$ -SiC and 39vo1.% Ti $B_2$ spray-dried powders with the liquid forming additives of l2wt% $Al_2$$O_3$+ $Y_2$$O_3$ by pressureless annealing at 1$700^{\circ}C$, 175$0^{\circ}C$, 180$0^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. The result of phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed $\alpha$ -SiC(6H), Ti $B_2$, and YAG(A $l_{5}$$Y_3$$O_{12}$ ) crystal phase. The relative density, the Young's modulus and fracture toughness showed respectively the highest value of 92.97%, 92.88Gpa and 4.4Mpaㆍ $m^{\frac{1}{2}}$ for composites by pressureless annealing temperature 1$700^{\circ}C$ at room temperature. The electrical resistivity showed the lowest value of 8.09${\times}$10$^{-3}$ ㆍcm for composite by pressureless annealing temperature 1$700^{\circ}C$ at $25^{\circ}C$. The electrical resistivity of the SiC-Ti $B_2$ composites was all positive temperature cofficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature ranges from $25^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$.
Fe based (Fe$_{68.2}$C$_{5.9}$Si$_{3.5}$B$_{6.7}$P$_{9.6}$Cr$_{2.1}$Mo$_{2.0}$Al$_{2.0}$) amorphous powder, which is a composition of iron blast cast slag, were produced by a gas atomization process, and sequently mixed with ductile Cu powder by a mechanical ball milling process. The experiment results show that the as-prepared Fe amorphous powders less than 90 $\mu$m in size has a fully amorphous phase and its weight fraction was about 73.7%. The as-atomized amorphous Fe powders had a complete spherical shape with very clean surface. Differential scanning calorimetric results of the as-atomized Fe powders less than 90 $\mu$m showed that the glass transition, T$_g$, onset crystallization, T$_x$, and super-cooled liquid range $\Delta$T=T$_x$-T$_g$ were 512, 548 and 36$^{\circ}C$, respectively. Fe amorphous powders were mixed and deformed well with 10 wt.% Cu by using AGO-2 high energy ball mill under 500 rpm.
The effect of interlamellar spacing on microstructural stability at high temperature was studied for unidirectionally solidified ternary $Ni\;/\;Ni_3Al-Ni_3$ Nb and binary $Ni-Ni_3Nb$ eutectic composite. The interlamellar spacing of both alloy systems were varied with the growth rate according to $"{\lambda}^2R=constant"$ relationship. As a result of isothermal heat treatments at high temperature it was considered that coarsening of lamellar structure was due to concentration gradient between the tip with a relatively small radius of curvature and the side of the thick lamellae with a larger radius of the opposite sign. Fault density was increased as the interlamellar spacing decreased. Therefore it is also considered that the higher coarsening rate of the specimen with the smaller interlamellar spacing was due to higher fault density. And the diference of coarsening rate between $Ni\;/\;Ni_3Al-Ni_3Nb$ and $Ni-Ni_3Nb$ eutectic composites was not observed when the interlamellar spacing was similar in size. This means that the presence of ${\gamma}'$ in ${\gamma}\;/\;{\gamma}'\;-{\delta}$ eutectic had no b arrier effect to diffusion through the ${\gamma}$ matrix.
The main purpose of this study is to characterize the size-dependent strain rate sensitivity in structural steel using the continue stiffness measurement (CSM) indentation. A series of experiments, such as CSM indentation and optical microscope examination, has been performed at the room temperature at different rate conditions. The results indicated that indentation hardness, strain rate, and flow stress showed size-dependent behavior. The dependency of indentation hardness, strain rate, and flow stress on the indentation size was attributed to the transition of the dislocation nucleation rate and the dislocation behaviors during the indentation process. Since both hardness and strain rate showed the size-dependent behavior, SRS tended to depend on the indentation depth. The results indicated that the SRS was quite high over 2.0 at the indentation depth of 240 nm and quickly dropping to 0.08, finally around 0.046 at large indents. The SRS values at large indentations strongly agree with the general range reported for several types of low-carbon steel in the literature (Chatfield and Rote 1974, Nguyen et al. 2018b, Luecke et al. 2005). The results from the present study can be used in both static and dynamic analyses of structures as well as to assess and understand the deformation mechanism and the stress-state of material underneath the indenter tip during the process of the indentation testing.

Metal chloride waste is generated as a main waste streams in a series of electrolytic processes of a pyrochemical process. Different from carbonate or nitrate salt, metal chloride is not decomposed into oxide and chlorine but it is just vaporized. Also, it has low compatibility with conventional silicate glasses. Our research group adapted the dechlorination approach for the immobilization of waste salt. In this study, the composition of SAP ($SiO_2-Al_2O_3-P_2O_5$) was adjusted to enhance the reactivity and to simplify the solidification process as a subsequent research. The addition of $Fe_2O_3$ into the basic SAP decreased the SAP/Salt ratio in weight from 3 for SAP 1071 to 2.25 for M-SAP( Fe=0.1). The experimental results indicated that the addition of $Fe_2O_3$ increased the reactivity of M-SAP with LiCl-KCl but the reactivity gradually decreased above Fe=0.1. Also, introducing $B_2O_3$ into M-SAP requires no glass binder for the consolidation of reaction products. U-SAP ($SiO_2-Al_2O_3-Fe_2O_3-P_2O_5-B_2O_3$) could effectively dechlorinate the LiCl-KCl waste and its reaction product could be consolidated as a monolithic form without a glass binder. The leaching test result indicated that U-SAP 1071 was more durable than other SAPs wasteform. By using U-SAP, 1 g of waste salt could generated 3~4 g of wasteform for final disposal. The final volume would be about 3~4 times lower than the glass-bonded sodalite. From these results, it could be concluded that the dechlorination approach using U-SAP would be one of prospective methods to manage the volatile waste salt.
Statement of problem : Although zirconium oxide ceramics are more and more commonly used in restorative dentistry, for many clinical applications only limited data can be found in the literature. However it is quite clear that hydrofluoric acid etching is impossible with zirconia ceramics. Therefore, other bonding techniques are required in order to lute these materials adhesively. Purpose : The purpose or this study was to evaluate the effects of surface treatments on shear bond strengths between two resin cements and a zirconia ceramic. Materials and methods : Experimental industrially manufactured yttrium-oxide-partially-stabilized zirconia ceramic discs (Adens, Korea) were used for this study. The ceramic specimens divided into five experimental groups and a control group (as received). Five surface treatments were studied 1) sandblasting with 110$\mu$m $Al_2O_3$ at 3 bars pressure 13 seconds at a distance of 10 mm, 2) flame-treated with the Silano-Pen for 5 $s/cm^3$, 3) grinding with a diamond bur. 4) sandblasting + Silano-Pen treatment, 5) diamond bur preparation + Silano-Pen treatment. Acrylic plastic tube (5 mm in height and 3 mm in diameter) were filled with composite to fabricate composite cylinders The composite cylinders were bonded to the ceramic specimens with either Superbond C&B or Panavia F resin luting agents. All cemented specimens were tested under shear loading until fracture on universal testing machine at a crosshead speed 1mm/min; the maximum load at fracture was recorded. Sheat bond strength data were analyzed with oneway analysis of variance and Tukey HSD tests (P<.05). Treated ceramic surfaces and fracture surfaces after shear testing were examined morphologically using scanning electron microscope. Results: Ceramic surface treatment with Silano-Pen after sandblasting improved the bond strength of Superbond C&B resin cement. Supevbond C& B resin cement at Silano-Pen aiker sandblasting($27.4{\pm}3.8MPa$) showed statistically higher shear bond strength than the others. Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, Superbond C& &B resin cement are suitable for cementation of zirconia ceramics and flame-treated with the Silano-Pen after sandblasting is required to enhance the bond strength.
